From next week you can get some French Connection Time, as the new watch collection from the retailer debuts on Monday. Prices range from £80 to £160 which is a good price for your first ‘proper’ watch.
My favourite from their selection in the vintage-inspired sunray dial watch which will set you back £100. I like the contrast between the silver bezel and the copper-coloured face markings, it’s distinctive without shouting for attention and will give a quirky retro touch to your outfit.

Plain old trousers just wont cut it anymore, especially when womenswear retailers are frothing at the mouth over the peg-leg, carrot, and cropped varieties of the trouser this season.
French Connection’s vintage trousers (£80) feature two tucks at the hip for a more traditional voluminous shape, a turn-up and a waist cinch for a perfect fit. They will look good teamed with simple, modern pieces like a grey v-neck sweater and white leather plimsolls to avoid a museum-y or overly retro feel.

There is something reassuringly old-fashioned about this French Connection tank top (£45), it reminds me of my old Chemistry teacher Mr Strom who would wear zip-up cardies like they were going out of fashion. Which they were.
It’s the combination of burgundy and grey that does it, wear and add some retro schoolboy good looks to your Autumn outfit. For maximum Back to School chic team it with a brown leather satchel and stripy school scarf.

My new favourite colour is a rich dark blue that falls somewhere between cobalt and navy. Not as obvious as a bright Yves Klein blue but not as trad as straight navy, the colour looks great with the remainders of a tan.
French Connection‘s new cashmere range includes a gorgeous crew neck in this exact shade for £85. Use it to pep up a wardrobe of neutrals, the slim fit is flattering and wont give any excess bulk to your silhouette. Block colours will also look good with the blue, try out a vivid orange or coral, dove grey or lemon yellow.

August is traditionally the month when France shuts down, goes on holiday and people start thinking about ‘La Rentrée’. You could call it the French New Year as the whole country gets gripped by ‘Rentrée’ fever, not just schoolchildren but grown adults too.
Around late August with thoughts of the Rentrée ingrained into my mind I always start feeling a little more preppy, and a little more traditional. French Connection’s Airspeed cardigan (£90) diligently ticks all these boxes and instills the excitment of the Back to School feeling even though it’s been a mighty long time since I set foot in a school! The front placket is a nice detail and with the contrasting pockets it’s a smart choice for winter.

For those of you who haven’t yet got yourself a small everyday bag French Connection’s army bag is perfect. I the way ripstop looks techy and the dark duck egg blue colour contrasts nicely with the khaki suede bottom.
The bag is a great size for your daily essentials, and is quietly smart. It’s sturdy enough to pack all your festival kit and take a bit of battering. The price has been reduced from £30 to £14 which means if you do get it covered in mud it’s nothing to cry about.

The marl effect of this fine gauge khaki jumper is nice way of adding some subtle texture to an outfit.
Team with a white t-shirt, white canvas pumps and a pair of tailored grey trousers for a simple office outfit. Alternatively for a more fashion-forward look team the jumper with toning neutrals in greys and khakis. Lightweight (but not combat!) trousers in greenish grey will look great teamed with utilitarian accessories like an army knapsack or a surply army t-shirt. The ‘Tivity’ jumper will set you back £50 from French Connection.

The Incredible Hulk film is out on Friday and features Liv Tyler and Ed Norton as the Hulk. While I can’t promise it will be better than the TV series you can at least pledge your allegiance to old-school Hulk with this ‘Comic Boom’ tee.
It’s from French Connection and features the green grumpy one flying across the word ‘Boom’ in retro comic book style font. Snap it up for a temper-calming £25 and wear it with dark denim and canvas pumps for a simple summer outfit.

We’ve said it before, but deck shoes are the best choice for this summer. Flip flops are too scruffy and although canvas shoes are a good staple they’ve become a little ubiquitous.
You might remember the slightly dodgy Office deck shoe I wrote about last week, these deck shoes from French Connection (£50) are much more the kind of thing you should be aiming for.
The navy and weathered black colours are much more modern than fusty brown and look great with jeans and khakis alike. Even better, deck shoes go really well with shorts perfectly straddling the divide between smart and casual. Just don’t go popping the collar of your polo shirt if you don’t want to look like an idiot.

French Connection’s ‘Pad’ trousers are a satisfying shade of rich navy which will look très chic teamed with other neutral for a classically elegant outfit. Try a white shirt with a rust coloured pocket square, or a white v-neck tee and grey cardigan for something more casual.
The cut is slim without being overly skinny and the creases are lengthening and flattering. At £70 they are a bit of an investment but they will easily become a staple part of your formal wardrobe and the navy is a sartorially intelligent change from boring black.

Huggy Bear, Snoop Dogg, Andre 3000; no matter how old you are, there has always been that outrageously cool, pimped-out personality. In the latest issue of L’Uomo Vogue, Snoop Dogg gets kitted out in clothes fit for a street legend.
Purple velvet suits, golf-check trousers and the obligatory afro complete the look but despite its eccentric ingredients can, if styled correctly, make up an approaching trend that can be woven into your wardrobe. Take some wide-leg trousers, a pair of brogues, a patterned jumper and a bold shirt as a starting point. Accessorise with elaborate ties, belts and a fabric-blend bowler bag for a strong look, see after the jump for image and product details.
NOTE: using words that you imagine to be street lingo (you know the ones) will in no way add to this look.

Boots may not be top of your list right now but these Buick boots from French Connection (£130) are great. The beat-up leather and brogue detailing give a rustic feel to the boot which stops it from looking too smart. Don’t wear with a vest and baggy jeans or you’ll look like Take That circa 1990. I’d wear them with slightly short slim trousers and a t-shirt in greys and brown for an artisty look.

The rise of the cardigan has surely sounded the death knell for the blazer and jeans look. A few years ago a blazer looked edgy but it’s now only worn by sloaney types, especially with distressed and ripped bootcut jeans, which surely are a confection of the devil. The cardigan offers a much leaner, modern silhouette; it’s a natural partner for skinny or slim jeans and can be dressed up with smart trousers and a slim tie. Simon Amstell does this look perfectly, teaming a dark cardie with a
floral shirt, or choosing various tones of khaki and olive green for an
eye-pleasing cardigan, tie and shirt combo. I’ve come up with two cardigan outfits so if you are one of the few people who haven’t purchased a cardigan there won’t be any excuse not to. See after the jump for images and product links.

This might be the last thing on your mind if you’ve planned to booze it up but Easter Weekend is the perfect time to stock up on new summer clothes. The overall looks on the high street are fresh and casual with hints of formal wear in accessories and tailoring. White is quite big, the New Look suit on the right is very cool, and after the jump French Connection have got an equally spanking outfit in pale tones. I think Matalan have obviously been reading my post on the René Lacoste shoes because they’ve got the retro french sportsman look down to a t. River Island are sharpening up their act with some great pieces for this season, and it’s a great place to head for a more street look, see after the jump, right.
