Brandish Gallery: George Michael

By admin on July 24th, 2008

George Michael played a couple of live gigs in Madison Square Gardens in New York recently to promote his ‘Twenty Five’ album. The tour is called ‘Twenty Five Live’ and is the first time the UK-based singer has played in the US in 17 years. In honour of this we bring you Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou’s style throughout the years.

Because The Tan Isn’t Bad Enough; Cristiano Ronaldo Does Silver Short-Shorts!

By Will Reid on July 24th, 2008

ronaldo(2).jpgWay back when (honestly Cristiano,) at the peak of the short-shorts trend, Brandish was rife with talk of Wham!, a model short-shorts wearer and metallic fabric. In an awfully weird way, Cristiano Ronaldo looks like a mixture of about three weeks worth of posts.

In case you haven’t already been blinded my that horrific pic to the left, I’m talking about this week’s latest fashion crime: those tight, silver short-shorts. Ronaldo was snapped while shopping at the Christian Audigier boutique in Beverly Hills, perfectly tangoed and crutch-ridden. Unlike that signature white suit, I can’t even bring myself to jokily utter that infamous question- Yay or Nay?

Why Short Shorts haven’t caught on

By admin on March 12th, 2008

The last few days have been a bit of a short shorts fest here at Brandish. While they can look good, I’m still not convinced. For
me, short shorts conjure up images of Club Tropicana-era George Michael and
that’s not a look I wish to emulate.

It’s my theory that George Michael is the reason that the whole short shorts
thing hasn’t caught on. Most people don’t like to admit that Club Tropicana
is a great song and call it a guilty pleasure. This then leads to years of
angst, as they rename George Michael songs to a Radiohead B-side in order to
avoid heckling from their friends, who are also secret Wham lovers.
They then spend years pretending to like artists like Joanna Newsom, while
going home and listening to Wham’s greatest hits. Short shorts evoke all these
painful memories in an instant and repel any potential buyer. That’s just my
theory, feel free to add yours.
