Make your eco friends green with envy with “sustainable” M&S suit

By Gerald Lynch on June 25th, 2012

Marks and Spencer have today revealed what they’re calling the world’s first “sustainable” suit, putting the planets health on an equal footing with our sartorial needs.

The suit (the one pictured here is for illustrative purposes only) is a “revolutionary step forward for a clothing retailer” according to M&S, who have ensured the suit is made from the most sustainable materials possible.

Taking several years to develop , the different elements of the suit include:

o Wool – the suit is made from organic wool which is fully traceable back to the farms from where it is produced. In addition, all of the chemicals used in the production of the wool fibre are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) approved, to reflect the fact that as the fibre has been organically produced

o Lining – made from recycled plastic bottles

o Canvas (used inside the main body of the suit) – made from recycled polyester

o Buttons – reclaimed buttons

o Pockets and waistband – made from reclaimed fabric

o Labels – all of the labels inside the suit, even the ‘Care Instructions’, have been made from recycled polyester

“This a huge step forwards for the industry”, said M&S Plan A Expert, Mark Summer.

“It is the first time such an intricate garment has been made of sustainable materials, and as well as being one of the greenest garments available on the high street, it is incredibly stylish and something we hope our customers will be proud to wear.”

Mark continued, “We set ourselves a big challenge with a suit as it contains so many different elements that we had to consider, but as part of our Plan A objectives we are determined to ensure all of the products we sell not only look great but are sustainably sourced; the suit is the perfect example – it is very stylish, of the highest quality, sustainably made – and all for under £350.”

With only 500 of the suits made, the green-fingered among you will have to act fast to snap one up, priced £349. You can read more information about the sustainable M&S suit here.

Legs get ready to rumble! Cool cycling trousers for a hot summer

By admin on June 5th, 2009

Cycling through Bloomsbury last night, I was struck by the sheer number of other cyclists on the roads. Seriously, it’s like the bicycle M1 there in rush hour. When budgets tighten and the weather brightens (sorry), cyclists come out to play, so it looks like summer is definitely set to be based around 2 wheels. And for that, you need the right outfit.

While it’s a little too warm for full-length jeans, rolling up an old pair can work pretty well. Technical cycling trousers can be fairly awful (dayglo lycra with reflective patches is not a Brandish-endorsed look), but this pair from US brand Outlier fill a gap for neatly tailored, slim trousers that are also fast-wicking and breathable. If you can’t stretch to the required $220 (plus international shipping), ASOS’s £25 slimfit chinos come in a pretty array of colours (we rate the teal ones most). Somewhere between the two sit Acne’s lovely peppermint chinos for £135. If you really want to impress the traffic, try matching your trouser colour to your bike frame.

Love the Look: green wool cape

Taking the scruffy look which Jarvis does so well and giving it a bit of spit and polish this gentleman carries off a timeless look with elegance.
The hunting green of the cape is echoed in the scarf and the navy trousers and brown shoes reinforce this further. The final touch is the way the silhouette of his outfit matches his companions perfectly, showing how to coordinate with your loved ones without looking like a dolt!

Rokit khaki jumper

Yesterday’s Love the Look outfit featured a slouchy green cardigan which acted as the showpiece for a palette of neutrals.

Rokit’s jumper is a similarly warm shade of khaki that would look great teamed in a similar fashion with grey trousers, tan shoes and maybe with a gold watch to bring out the rich tones of green. It’s very thick which suggests it is probably army surplus and would make a hassle-free substitute for a jacket and will only set you back £15.

Love The Look: “Tiger Woods/Masters Edition” Nike Blazer Hi Premium

By Will Reid on August 20th, 2008

nike-blazer-hi-premium-tiger-woods-masters-edition-p.jpgI’m not really a golfer and so I can’t claim any deep knowledge/love/appreciation of golf. I can however show knowledge/love/appreciation of knit V-necks with funky patterns and an equally passionate knowledge/love/appreciation of the new “Tiger Woods/Masters Edition” Nike Blazer Hi Premium.

Kix and the City reports that “to pay tribute to Tiger’s dominance at the Masters, Nike is set to release the “Tiger Woods/Masters Edition” Nike Blazer Premium Hi. The “Tiger/Masters” Nike Blazer Hi features a White/Black Leather upper with a faux Tiger hair Swoosh, a Masters-like logo at the heel tab, and a Green Hoody, symbolic of the Master’s trademark Green Jacket, on the tongue.”

You Would If You Could… Bright Suits

By Will Reid on February 27th, 2008

Markronson2_2There are endless trends and endless items you can wear to copy them. However, some looks are just out there to be seen.

You know what I’m talking about- the type of outfit that you might be let off wearing if the road was a catwalk and we were extras from Madonna’s ‘Vogue,’ throwing shapes at helpless passers-by.  This post is out there to give those looks an airing (we might just tone it down a bit!) Let’s look at the bright suit which is a current favourite among paparazzi-prone men.

Wearing one colour all the time

By admin on February 26th, 2008

Nycollage

While not as interesting as Lindsay Lohan going
topless
impersonating Marilyn Monroe, there was an intriguing feature in New York magazine about
people who wear all one
colour
. Don’t worry, black wasn’t allowed – otherwise it would have just
been a feature on Goths.

There’s a shoe designer who only wears
blue, a fashion designer in grey, an industrial designer who wears pink and
white at separate times (that’s two colours, the cheat), a fabric designer in
green and Stephin Merritt, who only wears brown.  The article is interesting if only for the
pomposity of the interviewees. The industrial designer (is that just fancy talk
for architect?) stated that wearing white made him feel “angelic and free”.
Presumably, wearing black made him feel like the grim reaper.
