5 of the best: single-colour Hi-Tops

Whilst Martin Margiela’s remain the dream version, single-colour hi-top trainers are looking like a hot item for summer and are available at all prices. Ideal with cut-off denim shorts, slim, cropped pants, or under your boiler suit! Here are 5 of the best.

ASOS have Reeboks in four colours. So classic they’re approaching a cult in their so-normal-they’re-astonishing way. Not a Reebok guy? Over at Oki-Ni an alternative to the budget-busting Margiela are the RAF by Raf Simons (yes, really!) hi-tops in black and white or Vans Sk8 Hi.

Finally, the perennially classy (though strangely quiet of late) POSTE have high-end but affordable options Veja Grid and Common Projects Mid Achilles.

Clockwise from top left: Veja Grid, VANS, Reebok, RAF, Common Projects.

Dream rubber: Margiela’s trainers-to-die-for

If, like me, your winter footwear has taken a battering given the recent weather conditions you may well be looking ahead to your next shoe purchase. Those winter boots that started off as a treat for chilled feet may be looking a bit soggy – time for the new. Clearly it’s too soon to be considering proper summer footwear (take note damp plimsoll wearers) so some warmth and practicality is still needed. The new batch of Margiela trainers at OkNi are the stuff of dreams. I particularly like the hi-tops with their all-white, 60s Cardin-esque space-ageness (a bit 80s Travel Fox too).

Diet Butcher Slim Skin Hi Tops

By admin on April 21st, 2008

If you like the colours of the Jaime Hayon shoes but think they’re a little low cut, you’ll love these Diet Butcher Slim Skin hi-tops. Although high tops are as rare as a Fred Perry collaboration these days, the colourways stand out right now, seeing as you can seemingly only get ice white or day glo high tops these days.

The subtle metallic coating allows every colourway to be subtle, which is quite a feat for red and green trainers. If you’ve been sufficiently tempted, then put your card back in your wallet. These aren’t out til May at the earliest.
