Sander Reijgers’ sex doll hoodies have been a mini-internet phenomenon and it’s not hard to see why. The hoodies are witty, but sympathetically so, which probably goes some way to explain their popularity, but we spoke to Sanders himself to find out more.

Your blow up doll hoodies have been a great success, what do you think it is that struck a chord with people?
I think the elements of humour, surprise, sex, also that it’s something new and unique, and not forgetting the simple fact it’s nice to look at.

How long have you been designing clothes, and tell us a little more about your past work?
I’m a painter, I have done the art academie (The Royal Academy of Art in the Hague). But for now I’m more interested in working 3d. The hoodies are an example. I’m using fashion and sex as a means to make objects. I like to operate in the grey area between art, design and fashion.

alfie patten hoodie i'm the daddy.jpg

Cute little 13-year old father Alfie Patten showed off what is perhaps the best hoodie, ever. The grey marl sweatshirt has a fetching neon print on the back telling the world: ‘”I’m the daddy” If I’m not “Fuck you all I’ll still be there”‘. Wonderful.

Please, please, please let this be available online soon!

Sometimes a piece of clothing is such a work of genius that actually, yes it could be considered art. Sander Reijgers has taken the kind of sex doll you usually see bandied about at stag dos and in dodgy shops and has made it into an object of wonder.

Reijgers said:’Inflatable dolls are so ugly, beautifying and thus rendering their purpose was kind of a challenge. We’re exposed daily to female nudity to stimulate consumption by modifying the doll’s functionality into a jacket, I enable it ‘to feel’ through its new purpose. My design is meant as a comment but one with humour’. Wow, Reijgers not only brings the LOLs but also the feminism, all in an amazing hoodie!

Topman Latest Trend: ‘Berlin Wall’

By Will Reid on January 21st, 2009

berlinwall.jpgTopman has revealed their latest ‘trend’ (read: mini theme-based collection) and with a name like ‘Berlin Wall,’ I was expecting rough skinny jeans and a fusion of This Is England skin-head with a kind-of Soviet, military cool. As always, the high-street label has delivered and the bleached skinny jeans are accentuated with textured trench coats and monochrome hoodies. I don’t quite see where the comic-strip boxers and novelty socks come into German reunification but I’m not complaining!

I have my eyes on the ‘Vintage Blue Skinny Jeans’ and the ‘Grey Marl Stitch-Line Hoody.’ Check out this link for the Trend video and full collection.

WISHLIST: Bape ‘Panda’ Hoodie

By Will Reid on October 13th, 2008

This season is one of continued focus on shape; the tulip skirt, the peplum, the over-sized collar. I have always leaned towards a slimmer-fit for hoodies and trousers but this season I plan to try something new. This ‘Panda‘ hoodie from Bape fits the bill perfectly, it is quite baggy and voluminous but it has a fitted waist resulting in a highly fashionable silhouette.

There are two types of the hoodie (one in fleece and one in cotton) and four possible colours (although the black is exclusive to the Bape store in Aoyama, Japan! Buy now for pre-Pharrell originality!

Topman hexagon print hoody

By Isabelle on May 18th, 2007

Jazz it up with this Topman hoodie with graphic print and shiny foil bits. The ’90s style bubbles and squiggles look quite nu-ravey, but it will add some pep to a standard grey trousers and neat trainer combo. Costing a mere £25 it reminds me of chemistry textbooks and dna particles, I might get lost in a reverie of isomers, moles and covalency for a while now.

Topman colourblock hoodie

By ShinyMedia on May 11th, 2007

TopmanhoodieColour-blocking is big news, gone are the retro prints from the flighty echelons of the fashion world. This hoodie from Topshop (£20) is a prime example of colour blocking. It looks more effective if you stick to colour blocking with individual items within an outfit, but the lemon yellow looks good against the black and blue. You could go the whole hog and team it with purple jeans and hi-tops, but you don’t want to look like a Skins reject do you?

Unruly Heir seersucker hoodie

By ShinyMedia on May 9th, 2007

SeersuckerThe preppy look is great as long as you add a strong dash of subversiveness, all those smart clothes can look brilliantly anti-establishment if you wear them a certain way. Unruly Heir’s lilac seersucker hoodie is gorgeously preppy, it would look great teamed with other candy brights for a punky take on the posh-boy look. I’m thinking multicoloured deck shoes (the preppy shoe of choice), pale pink jeans and an orange Lacoste polo shirt. Are you with me?

G-Sus hoodie

By ShinyMedia on April 23rd, 2007

GsusFancy looking like a Mexican Wrestler on his day off? G-Sus have come up with their fancy Powermasters hoodie which comes in a fetching pink and turquoise colourway. It’s also got short sleeves, which is kind of kooky but actually quite sensible when you think about it. Warm but not stifling for the colder summer days and evenings. I give this the mark of a great hangover top; wverybody needs an amusing hangover top to lift their spirits when they’re feeling like something the dog sicked up, and I think this is a perfect one for the summer
