When You’re a Boy: Simon Foxton exhibition opens Friday

By cchapman on July 13th, 2009

SimonFoxton.jpgThis is officially: A Very Big Deal. Not only is uber-stylist Simon Foxton one of the most influential people in menswear but this exhibition is also one of the first to focus on the role of the stylist as opposed to the photographer. And it’s about mens fashion: double whammy! As if our readers needed any reminding, menswear is like the new womenswear. And its only taken several millenia of social evolution to focus ourselves on the fact that men are peacocks obsessed with our appearance. Anway, enough with the sociology lecture.

Simon Foxton has been active in the fashion world since the early 80′s, being of the same generation as, say, Judy Blame, and um, Caryn Franklin. Notable for his work at iD and, latterly but consistently, Arena Homme Plus magazine. Simon’s work has always been thought provoking and groundbreaking, in terms of his treatment of gender/sexuality, ethnicity and perceived divides between ‘leisure’ wear and formal wear. All of which may seem familiar to us now, but back in the day..

Strangely lacking in information online, I suspect that by the weekend there will be a flurry of media interest in this amazing exhibition. See you there!

Custom Levi’s from… Levi’s!

By Jonathan Smith on September 3rd, 2008

jeans.jpgHitting you up with some more Levi’s action, this time from Japan. Levi’s Japan has launched a new service for all of those who wanted custom jeans straight out the box. Following in the footsteps of Nike I.D it is now possible to get custom jeans direct from Levi’s with the ability to pick the cut, wash, wear, and details such as rivet colour and paint spatters.

This is all good and I’m sure it will take off, though I would like to see some more wash options and a few different cuts other than 502 regular wide, 505 regular wide and 517 bootcut- what’s wrong with a nice skinny fit?

i-D February2008-The Boyz II Men Issue

By Will Reid on January 25th, 2008

Le76a8ce064e6c9018debbdye8_2The latest issue of i-D magazine is dedicated entirely to men, as you would guess from the rather provocative cover image.

Gemma Ward and Lily Donaldson take the cover with a photo by Emma Summerton and styled by Edward Enninful, a duo who have more than proved themselves when it comes to attention-grabbing images. The website description of this month’s issue starts with the line "Grow your stubble, flex your muscles and open doors for the ladies.
