Fashion extraordinaire and all-round legend Karl Lagerfeld recently told the press that “an H&M dress and a Chanel dress can look the same in a small photo, but not in real life” and explained that he isn’t ready to take the Chanel label online. However, Opening Ceremony (the great albeit not couture label) have just opened their website and online shop.
The online store will offer a mixture of the label’s own collection as well as other brilliant labels. After all, this is a label favoured by many a hipster and frequently sees collaborations with the likes of Chloë Sevigny.
Prepare to max out the credit card.

Radio DJ Chris Evans is the proud father of new-born son Noah and he has taken to his BBC blog to reveal pictures of his baby. Evans told readers of his BBC Radio Two blog that the new born child is “a little belter” and explains that “I know everyone says that about their own but he really is a bit special.” How adorable!
Evans married wife Natasha Shishmanian, a golf instructor, in 2007 and the ginger DJ has previously gone out with Billie Piper.
Congratulations from the Brandish team!

“Bored of perfectly folded paper and exquisitely tied ribbon? Fancy adding a more ‘personal’ touch this year? Then why not have your Christmas presents CrapWrapped™ at Firebox. This exclusive, uniquely shoddy gift wrapping option involves us wrapping your pressies in a slapdash fashion. “
The Daily Mail reports that Firebox.com is paying “20 of its male forklift truck drivers and warehouse assistants to wrap presents as quickly as possible, using ugly brown duct tape and very little care” for their latest ‘CrapWrap’ service. The service has proved popular with over 500 Firebox customers after only a week of its launch but what do you think?
Is it a bit stereotypical to say that all men are bad at wrapping or do you agree with Geraldine James, buying manager for Christmas gifts at Selfridges, who states that “men are perfectly capable of wrapping presents beautifully. They choose to pretend they can’t so they don’t have to do it.”
Vote ‘Yay or Nay’ to the service after the jump!

One of my own punk-inspired ‘sets’ combines Dries Van Noten trousers, a Uniqlo t-shirt, an image of inspiration and a black crayon with Vans for some high fashion-DIY.
Polyvore has long been the talk of fashionistas and our sister site, Catwalk Queen, runs a ‘Style This’ competition based completely around the image-making tool. Whether it’s a Vivienne Westwood tie or a Topman ring, styling outfits has never been easier! Granted, we men have it a bit harder in terms of finding a wide variety of items but just search for ‘man bag’ and you have a good page of man-bags.
And best/worst of all? After you’ve styled your outfits you can even buy everything you’ve included in your image.
Look out for more Brandish outfits or watch the Polyvore tutorials and send your own to isabelle [at] shinymedia.com!

The Independent are talking about global hipsters and the dissolution of traditional trends, name-dropping the usual suspects like Ryan McGinley and Nathan Barley. They call the Truman Brewery “a microcosm of an international phenomenon” which is kind of depressing but overall it’s an interesting article, describing the change in trend adoption from a vertical or trickle down movement to a lateral one largely thanks to the internet.
It’s a mostly upbeat article but it does slag off Uniqlo‘s pre-trendification era saying it was thought of as “a cheap and nasty Asian C&A equivalent” in 2004. Err, by whom?! Certainly not yours truly. Anyway if that’s all a little too fluffy read this Adbusters article on Hipsterism where Douglas Haddow calls it the ‘Dead End of Western Civilization’.
