When my English teacher announced we would be studying ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’ I have to admit to a light leap of the heart as I reminisced on John Galliano‘s ‘Blanche DuBois’ collection of 1988 and Marlon Brando in all his retro glory; oozing sex appeal and hard-edged fashion prowess. With these thoughts in mind, and a bit of time spent re-watching the iconic film made in 1951, I set about creating an outfit based on the look of Stanley Kowalski.
I’ve mixed a pair of amazing chino/casual-esque trousers with a bit of a vintage feel and a thin leather belt from with a basic tee from Topman and a pair of roughed up plimsolls from New Look. This is simple and seemingly effortless but the look as a whole is incredibly effective at turning you into a rugged, alpha-male icon. Now, with the fashion bit past, can anyone do a good New Orleans accent?

The latest issue of Another Man reads like a Who’s Who of not only the fashion industry but the world of art, music and acting. Jam-packed with features on Lucien Freud, a list of ‘Style Icon’ profiles scribed by the artistic elite and tribute stories to John Galliano (a designer who haunts my dreams,) and Martin Margiela (a designer who borders on haunting my nightmares.)
Dazed Digital tells us that the issue provides an “insight into the world of fashion with work from the world’s leading photographers and stylists including Nicola Formichetti, Norbert Schoerner, Alister Mackie, Gareth McConnell, David Armstrong, Tyler Udall, Serge Leblon, Bryan McMahon, Sandra Freij, Paul Wetherell, Mattias Karlsson, Lina Scheynius.”

When most of the fashion world is retreating to the relative safety of preppy, classic looks Galliano’s Paris menswear show last week was a riot of colour and you could tell he certainly wasn’t thinking of the credit crunch.
Drinks cans, colourful afros and shimmering lipcolours accompanied the fanciful clothes which included day-glo sporrans, newsprint tailored blazers and t-shirt featuring pop art images of Galliano himself. See after the jump for backstage images from the collection.

For those of you wondering where I have disappeared off to recently- the answer is a strange place called Abernethy in Northern Scotland where innocent people are made to compete in equally strange outdoor activities. And not the X-rated kind.
While some have been living it up at Fashion Week, I have been condemned to a lack of ghost models and Matches sales. Therefore, I was delighted to return to Isabelle’s latest fashion accessory- the ‘Medge.’ I have come up with a new fashion word of my own.
I have decided upon the ‘Crarem Trouser’ as my new term. As seen at John Galliano and Etro, this trouser mixes the Harem-style ankle with the new ‘Drop-Crotch’ trend to form the trouser of the season.
