Esquire has brought together some of our favourite designers and our most art-throb artists for the Singular Suit Project which opens at Somerset House on July 31st.
Patrick Grant from Savile Row tailors Norton & Sons teamed up with one of our favourite artists, Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller to produce a US-style boilersuit which accumulates patches as mementoes of the wearer’s life. Richard James‘ sheer tailored suit takes inspiration from Spencer Tunick‘s mass nude photographs and just so happens to be bang on trend. Newly appointed Dunhill Director Kim Jones worked with Terence Koh on an-all white suit, with mixed-media embellishments which cracks and ages as it’s worn.
The full feature will appear in a special hardback edition of Esquire’s September issue out on Aug 6, in the meantime check out our thumbnail gallery featuring a selection of the designs.

Bearded retard and my own personal hate figure, Kaye West wore a piece from his yet to be released clothing line Pastelle to last nights American Music Awards. The panelled varsity jacket is part of the singers clothing label, headed by our very own British designer Kim Jones and is as of yet unreleased to the general public, though look out for the lines website, PastTellMuseum.com, as rumour has that it goes live soon!
Jump through for video of Kanye performing “Heartless” last night at the awards.

It’s almost but not quite spring, which means it’s time to stock up on madras shirts, short shorts and sunglasses. Topman are on the case, they have launched a range of sunnies in conjunction with Linda Farrow called ‘The Classic Sunglasses’.
As well as Linda Farrow the four other guest designers this season are Bernard Wilhelm, Oliver Spencer, Kim Jones and 0044. You can’t currently get the Kim Jones ones online but fear not I have it on good authority (aka the Topman press office) that there will be a delivery next week .

Designer Spotlight, Entertainment

Fashionista, the fashion gossip powerhouse, has stunned me with an exciting piece of news. I read about it just over a week ago but I did a bit of research and feel that I can just about explain these rather brilliant goings-on.
Diane Pernet, the extravagant fashion persona and founder of blog ‘A Shaded View on Fashion’ has come together with Dino Dinco to create a project varied enough it will excite anyone with even the slightest knowledge of fashion. The project is called ‘You Wear It Well’ and it is a touring exhibition of short fashion films made by some of the great clotheshorses of our time.

Umbro aren’t a brand you associate with style. No matter what they do, when people think Umbro, they think football. It’s an image association that the company are finding impossible to shake, which is a shame as their Kim Jones collaboration has produced some great trainers, with
these Mid-tops
the pick of an impressive bunch.
Whilst I’m sure no Brandish readers commit
this felony, I’ve started to notice an alarming number of people wearing Mid to
High tops and covering them with jeans that cover the majority of the trainer.
Doesn’t this defeat the point of wearing high trainers?
But enough about my pet peeves, these
trainers are available for a very affordable £60. Considering an Alexander
McQueen Puma trainer costs upwards of £150, these are bargains of Del-boy
proportions.

The world and his brother are talking about it and we at Brandish can’t be left out: congratulations go to Kim Jones who has been given the job of Creative Director for Dunhill.
It is a surprising appointment – the darling of men’s sportswear teaming up with a traditional menswear label – but a very shrewd one. Dunhill have been trying to revitalise their brand since 2005 when Richard James was brought in, but Kim will definitely bring a breath of fresh air to the label. No one does colour quite like Kimmy and his soft-edged boy-next-door masculinity is such a strong aesthetic it will help to set Dunhill apart from their rivals.
The only bad part of the news is that the Kim Jones label will take a break so Kim can concentrate on Dunhill. Boo!

Clothing

Umbro must be looking to move away from their beer boy image with their collaboration with Kim Jones. Understandably so, as the usual stuff is a bit naff, but the Kim Jones collections are fresh and cater for a range of styles. My favourite items from his A/W 07 collections are the wetlook windcheaters, I’m a bit obsessed with that fabric. I’m a bit disappointed that some of the shoes still look like those classic plastic market trainers, and not in a good way, but one step at a time I suppose. You can get your hands on their clothes at Urban Outfitters and Selfridges across the UK
