Ever wondered why the plimsoll is called that? According to Nicholette Jones’ book The Plimsoll Sensation in the 1870s it got the name because the coloured horizontal band joining the upper to the sole resembled the Plimsoll line on a ship’s hull. So just like the Plimsoll line on a ship, if water got above the line of the rubber …

Sportswear brand Lacoste have been bought out by the Maus Freres Group. The Swiss investors already held a 35% stake in the brand, and are now majority holders by buying up an additional 30.3% stake. The move values the French fashion line at somewhere between 1.0 billion and 1.25 billion euros ($1.29-$1.62 billion). The sale comes courtesy of a group …

Fancy a fashion-fix with your musical high at this weekend’s Coachella 2012 festival? Then you’re in luck; Lacoste are out on the campaign trail for their new Lacoste Live label, and will be rolling up to the Californian camp with a pop-up shop in tow. It’s actually quite an impressive feat of engineering too, like a Transformer with a penchant …

Exclusive to Kurt Geiger, these new designs have been taken from Lacoste’s premium men’s “Club” collection and feature lace-ups in calf leather that pay homage to its golf brogue ancestors complete with a sporty two-tone stripe at the ankle and a pull tab at the heel. Lacoste Challenge: Fresh Scent For Summer
Kiss & Makeup‘s Zara writes…
Lacoste are launching a new scent which challenges men to be, uh, Challenge(d). The idea is that the scent will capture the essence of today’s young metrosexual, and be light enough to wear daily. Considering the tagline is ‘Never resist the call of the game’. it seems pretty relevant for Wimbledon, and I can imagine Henman spritzing on a little in between getting trounced trying his hardest.
Yay or Nay? Mickey Boardman’s Gender-Bender Style
Mickey Boardman is the infamous columnist at Paper magazine as well as a social butterfly and fashion extraordinaire. He is also the proud owner of a rather distinctive and intriguing look.
Gallery: Michael Cera in Arrested Development
During a recent spate of illness (whaddya mean you didn’t notice my absence??!) I watched A LOT of Arrested Development and something struck me, sartorially.
Michael Cera’s who plays George Michael in the show appears in an array of eye-wateringly good/bad (I haven’t made my mind up yet) outfits mainly composed of chinos, faded ’80s patterned shirts, webbing and leather belts and deck shoes.
Michael Stipe designs polo shirt for Lacoste
This may be sacrilege round these parts, but I’ve never really understood how people can spend over £30 on a t-shirt.
Beauty & Youth x Lacoste and Jessica Simpson… kind of
Does the world need anymore cardigans? No but the world doesn’t need another drunk blond hick, but we have Jessica Simpson and I love her. These cardigans and Jessica Simpson do have a few things in common: we don’t need them, there’s nothing really special about them, we have loads of them but we kinda like them.
Visionaire 54 SPORT- A Lacoste Tribute
The latest edition of Visionaire has been outed as a tribute to Lacoste’s 75th Anniversary. So far, the infamously expensive Visionaire collection has seen issues made of puzzles and vinyl records but we are now being treated to the ‘first wearable issue.’ Confused? Let me explain.

Now this is something you can be fairly sure nobody else in the pub will be sporting.
Lacoste Rene plimsolls in Offspring
For some reason the majority of my footwear posts center around bright, garish colourways, and this one isn’t any different.
Lacoste Ibiza Block
These puppies are gorgeous. Great colour combination, great design, great shape. They’re amazing. They have a really authentic eighties look to them – something about grey mixed with colour is very evocative of the era. Also the leather (or could it be leatherette? Do I dare dream?) padding on the uppers is just divine. You can get hold of them …
René summer pumps from Lacoste
I’m in love with these Lacoste ‘René’ pumps from Office (£49.99), I’ve been saying ‘Oh René’ over and over again in my head in the style of Allo’ Allo’.
