Breaking – Official. Holtby signs for Spurs – no move until July though. Arsenal’s Chamakh signs on loan for West Ham

By Stefano on January 4th, 2013

So there you have it. Official confirmation that Schalke’s energetic midfielder will be joining Spurs in July. the player whose father is English and is an Everton fan, had also been on Arsene Wenger’s radar, but has opted to join the North London Whites rather than Reds.

The official word from Spurs is

‘We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Germany Under 21 captain Lewis Holtby to join the Club in July from Bundesliga side Schalke, subject to a medical. The creative midfielder began his professional career with Alemannia Aachen and his impressive performances in the German second division soon caught the attention of a number of top-flight Bundesliga sides before he made the move to Schalke in the summer of 2009.’

Also new in is that Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has joined West Ham on loan until the end of the season. The player has been a huge disappointment for The Gunners scoring just eight goals since he signed in 2010. Hope he re-captures some of his old form at his new club. More here.

Villa, Sneijder, Zaha and the 10 most wanted players in the transfer window

By Stefano on December 31st, 2012

So, there is just a few hours to go before paper talk can become reality and the winter transfer window opens. This winter expect some serious cash to be flying with Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool desperate to strengthen their squads to keep them in the frame for Champions League qualification, and Man City and Chelsea mulling over big money strikers.

Apparently ‘Arrry has £20 million to spend too.

So here then are the ten most coveted players in the window. I’d be very surprised if at least half of them weren’t wearing new colours come February.

3 David Villa

He may not be the player he once was but Barcelona's forward David Villa would be an amazing addition to any of the big Premiership clubs. The latest word is that apparently the Catalans would sell but are expecting around £15 million - a tidy sum for a 31 year old. You can see him at Chelsea and he would be a massive boost to both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Lewis Holtby interesting Liverpool and Arsenal

By Stefano on December 27th, 2012

Well Schalke might have tied down one of major stars to a new deal in the guise of Klaas Jan Hunteklaar, but now they need to work hard to keep another of their key players at Gelsenkirchen.

According to Goal 22year old midfielder Lewis Holtby has decided against renewing his contract with the Bundesliga club and is eyeing up a move to the Premiership.

Holtby is high on the list of targets of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer (Holtby showed good form against Arsenal in the Champions League) and was linked with the player in November.

The German star, who has an English father, would be free to leave Schalke in the summer under the Bosman ruling and so a move in the January window seems a very real possibility.

Holtby, who is apparently an Everton fan, was reported to have demanded almost £5 million a year to commit to Schalke. The player’s agent Markus Noack rubbished those rumours, telling Goal.com that such a figure had been “plucked from the air”.
