Arsenal update: Sagna, Remy, Rooney, Draxler and Ulreich

By Stefano on May 9th, 2013

Morning Gooners, there’s plenty to chew on today with the rumour mills working over time predicting who Arsenal are going to sign in the summer.

One player who might not be going anywhere is right back Bacary Sagna. A couple of sources are saying that his dream move to PSG has broken down and that the player will stay at The Emirates. Even though he hasn’t maintained his impeccably high standards this year I think most Arsenal fans would probably like to see him stay.

One deal that is surely on the cards is the capture of Loic Remy from QPR. Wenger likes him, he wants to come, he wouldn’t be pricey, Arsenal need more strikers. Done deal?

Well apparently not. The Daily Star says that the Arsenal board aren’t convinced by Remy and instead fancy a move for Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony instead.

Bony has been cracking them in for fun in Holland this year and will be available for the low price of just £7 million.

Personally I am not convinced by this one and I think that Remy has done enough to secure a move to North London, unless Wenger makes two marquee striker signings.

With Fergie readying his gardening gloves the future of Wayne Rooney has come under the spotlight again. The new manager, that’ll be David Moyes then, needs to make a marquee striker signing – Lewandowski? – as well as accommodate Wellbeck and RVP (who will be nowhere near as effective next season, just you watch). This would then shunt Rooney into the midfield or on to the subs bench, or into the arms of Arsenal? Well Arsene is a fan, and we could afford his transfer fee, although his wages would be an issue.

The problem for Moyes is that if he does want to go it would have to be Bayern or PSG. That’s because Man United are way too smart to sell their star players to Premiership rivals, unlike someone else we could mention…

Can’t see this one happening, but Le Grove is enjoying the speculation.

Another move that is being mooted is for Schalke’s teenage playmaker Julian Draxler. As has been mentioned many times before Borussia Dortmund need a player to replace Mario Gotze who is heading for Bayern and Draxler fits the bill perfectly. Again Wenger has admired the youngster for a while now and he has hinted that he might consider a move to England, so you never know.

Finally the search for a keeper continues and has now shifted to Germany and Stuttgart’s Sven Ulreich. The young keeper, who has played well this season, has been mooted as a possible target by TalkSport. Would he much of an upgrade on our Pole though? I thought the whole point of buying a new keeper was to get in some experience to help the youngsters.

Arsenal update: Jovetic, Lewandowski, Remy and Yilmaz

By Stefano on May 7th, 2013

There’s loads of Arsenal-related transfer gossip this morning – not a lot of it, it had to be said, of any substance.

The most interesting is from Goal.com which claims that Arsenal aren’t just after one marquee striker signing, but two. The site says that Arsenal are in advanced talks with Fiorentina to sign Stevan Jovetic but are also mulling over a move for Robert Lewandowski and Edin Dzeko.

Joevtic seems to be a done deal, especially now it appears that Juventus have cooled their interest in the Montengerin. The big question mark this year has been his form as he only has 12 goals to his name

Goal says

Fiorentina’s public stance is that they value Jovetic between £25-£30m but Arsenal are confident of agreeing a fee for less than £20m.

The Gunners are likely to start the bidding at around the £17m mark soon after the Premier League transfer window opens on May 20.

Arsenal have apparently been in contact with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund’s in-demand spearhead Lewandowski and are also keeping close tabs on Manchester City striker Dzeko.

I think it highly unlikely that Lewandowski will be Emirates-bound this year and as for Dzeko, I think he might be favourite to replace the Pole at Dortmund.

Much more likely to land is QPR’s Loic Remy, who has scored five times in eleven appearances for Rangers this season. A number of sources are continuing with the story and a fee is expected to be of around £6 million. If Arsenal don’t qualify for the Champions League he might end up being the only option.

Finally The Express suggests that the Gunners are also looking at Galatasaray’s Turkish star Burak Yilmaz. The player, who has been in riveting form this season, will apparently cost Arsenal around £15 million.

Arsenal update: Julio Cesar, Loic Remy and the QPR smash and grab

By Stefano on April 22nd, 2013

Even the optimistic of Rangers fans knows now that their team is down and will be playing Championship football next season.

It is a sad ending for a side brimming with talent that just never seemed to play together well and get any momentum going.

Already the vultures are circling and among them is Arsene Wenger. So far the Gunners have been linked with – at a push – four Rangers players, yet how many of them make the move across London depends I think on what happens in Arsenal’s next four games. Qualify for the Champions League and it is possible that none will make the transition. Fail to finish at least fourth and one, maybe two could be on their way.

Of the quarter the most likely to move is almost certainly striker Loic Remy. He has been a long term Wenger target and if he can be secured on a cut price deal Wenger may see him as a replacement for Nicklas Bendtner who is certain to leave this summer. He might end up being Arsenal’s third choice striker behind Giroud and AN Other, but I think this could be a win for everyone.

Next up would be stopper Julio Cesar who is being linked with a move to Arsenal by just about everyone at the moment. I guess he is behind Valdes, Reina and Mignolet in Arsene’s wants list, but he is a quality keeper who has a fair bit of practice this season.

The Samba to Arsenal rumour has gone a bit quiet of late, but I think he would be an obvious choice were Arsenal not to make the top four. QPR will need to offload him and he would certainly add some steel to the Arsenal defence. His form this season has been erratic and he apparently isn’t liking life in London, but he would still be a worthwhile addition to the Arsenal squad, if the team can get his wages down a bit.

Finally Wenger was once a big fan of Junior Hoilett. Can’t see that one happening though.

Remy? Samba? Are Arsenal sizing up a raid on QPR in the summer

By Stefano on March 21st, 2013

So will QPR escape relegation this season? My heart says yes, but my head thinks they might be heading for the drop.

And if Rangers return to The Championship there might be some significant plundering for Premiership managers on the hunt for a bargain or two, and Arsene Wenger is likely to be first in the queue.

QPR have three players that he has chased with in the past and they could significantly strengthen the Arsenal squad for not an especially huge outlay. And they would probably all sign for The Gunners even if they don’t have Champions League football next season.

Arsenal’s interest in Christopher Samba is well documented. And I think that he could well be the player the Gunners turn to if, as expected Ashley Williams, arguably the team’s number one target joins his ex-boss at Liverpool. His wages might be an issue, but possibly less of one if as expected Arsenal junk their strict wages policy.

Then today The Daily Express is reporting that French striker Loic Remy has a clause in his contract that will allow him to walk if QPR go down.

The paper says that Remy could be available for as little as £4million. The player has scored three times in his six appearances for Rangers and has a reputation from his days in France for being an energetic and deadly finisher.

Arsenal have a trio of strikers – Park, Bendtner and Chamakh – who will leave in the summer and if Wenger does opt for his number one target Stevan Jovetic, he will still be in the market for an out and out striker. Remu would certainly fit that bill.

Finally there’s Junior Hoilett, a player who has had a chequered career at Rangers but is still young – he is 22 – and Wenger (who has expressed his admiration for the player in the past) may feel that he could do a job for Arsenal.

Arsenal update: Wilfried Zaha talks and ‘favourites’ to land Loic Remy

By Stefano on January 11th, 2013

After a couple of quiet days the Arsenal transfer rumour machine has been very active in the last few hours linking the club with several new signings.

The Indie has a pair of stories claiming that Wenger has made a move for the talented Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, while it also suggests Arsenal are now favourite to scoop Marseilles’ experienced striker Loic Remy.

Zaha had been assumed in the last few days to definitely be United bound, and Wenger himself poured a bit of cold water on the  rumours a few weeks ago. Now it appears that the chase is back on.

The Indie says

Arsenal have certainly been active observers of the winger, about whom United have opened discussions with Palace, with the north London club’s chief scout, Steve Rowley, present at several of his games.

Admittedly no other papers are saying that Arsenal have a chance to land the 20 year old – the rest are going with him signing for United and being loaned back to Palace for the rest of the season.

The Indie, and a lot of other papers, also have the story that Arsene Wenger is making a late move to sign Marseilles striker Loic Remy. The 26 year old, who has been chased by QPR and Newcastle is apparently an Arsenal fan and would cost the Gunners in  the region of £10 milion.

The paper says

In his first two seasons Rémy scored 37 goals in all competitions, but this campaign has been a struggle.

Inter had been keen on a move for the forward, but they preferred to offer a player as part-exchange in the deal and that has not appealed to Marseilles. Wenger is also keen on Anderlecht holding midfielder Lucas Biglia.

Lastly David Villa showed some form last night in scoring two excellent goals in Barcelona’s 5-0 Copa del Rey win over Cordoba. According to the gossip Villa wants to go, Barca want keep him and Wenger is in two minds. I don’t think we have heard the last of this yet.
