London Fashion Week SS12: Lou Dalton

Lou Dalton’s spring/summer 2012 collection is all about shorts: medium shorts, short shorts and long shorts… ok the latter is probably just called trousers but you get the idea. Teamed with bomber jackets and some more tailored top pieces, the collection was a rather monochrome experience.

You might think black for summer is a bit dark and twisted, but not for Lou Dalton’s Charming Men. And with her influence for the collection coming from Swan Lake and the UK miners’ strike in 1984 it all kind of makes sense.

What do you think of Lou Dalton’s collection?

London Fashion Week – Acne Fall 2011 collection

By Laura on February 23rd, 2011

When Acne creative director Jonny Johansson was asked about the Men’s Fall 2011 collection he shrugged and stated “All the tailoring—I thought that was in the moment, something fresh. I’m tired of all this heritage, the older models or whatever. It’s time for something young.” Here at Brandish we completely agree!

The collection includes a series of overcoats paired with suit pants, as well as very sartorial two-piecers. With TV influences like Mad Men the suit is becoming increasingly popular amongst younger generations and it’s labels like Acne that they’ll turn to.

The collection over all is very youthful with slightly cropped pants and low-buttoning jackets in different styles all in Italian bonded wool. The pallet sees accents of raspberry, royal blue, or teal. Johansson stated that the clothing was made for “that moment when you’re not grown up and at the same time, not a kid. The kind of sexual energy that brings.”

Yu Masui and other stylish men at Eley Kishimoto’s London Fashion Week party

By admin on February 23rd, 2009

Eley Kishimoto‘s LFW parties are always a relaxed affair; so forget any fashion snootiness because last night’s bash was a friendly, vibrant do with masses of well dressed people.

On the 31st floor of Centrepoint on Tottenham Court Road we sipped cocktails and looked at all the great outfits but the London skyline view was a serious, but welcome distraction! Among the well-dressed people were Japanese journalist and Brandish fave Yu Masui, who wowed in a typically flamboyant pair of sequinned trousers and jump through to see the other stylish men who turned up.

The dedicated menswear day at LFW is definitely cause for excitement, the names might not be as big as on the womenswear schedule but in terms of creativity and variety it’s hard to beat. Here’s a preview of some of our fave designers from the line-up, stay tuned for more.

We featured Carolyn Massey‘s Topman Lens collection back in July, a stickler for tradition with an eye for detail she produces contemporary menswear tailoring.

The Sunday Best’s One Leg at a Time: guaranteed fashion chortles

Hey! Don’t think for one minute that I’m agreeing about the lack of menswear at LFW and the general confusion at the amount of fashion weeks (ahem!), but you should go and take a look at the rest of Sunday Best‘s most recent ‘One Leg at a Time’ cartoon. It’s pure teh fashion lolz.
On an admin tip, Man About Town magazine has the best fashion events calendar in their latest issue. It’s so useful I might even get it tattoed on one of my bumcheeks in a Reverend Peter Mullen-style protest.

On|Off Presents: Rozalb de Mura gallery

By admin on September 22nd, 2008

As we walked into the On|Off exhibition I had a ‘I want that boat’ Napoleon Dynamite moment looking at Rozalb de Mura’s designs. I especially lusted after a pleated sleeve tunic in a gorgeous shade of grey and on the catwalk the menswear was equally impressive.

Rozalb de Mura
is the name of a fictional baron thought up by the design team which is a brilliantly Martin Margiela touch. Designer Olah Gyarfas has been working in his native Romania for the last two years on the de Mura label.

Back to the clothes, the neutral colours and straightforward fabrics belie their simplicity. Crisp gathers, intricate origami folds on the back of a tailored jacket and ballooned trousers all sound a lot more gimmicky than the actual garments would have you believe. I’m keeping my eyes on Gyarfas’ progression, along with fellow On|Off Presents catwalkmate Mark Fast he is definitely one to watch.

Love The Look: Mark Ronson at Vivienne Westwood

By Will Reid on September 19th, 2008

Mark Ronson has always been a tiptop fashion star and this year has been awash with his sartorial influence. From the stripes and Mod look of early 2008 to the sharp tailoring in kooky fabrics. From the ’50s rock-star (read: Elvis) to the fur-clad aristo-geek.

Now, Ronson is taking it upon himself to lead the way with the trapper-hat wearer, ‘Lightspeed Champion,’ look as first established by our (soon to depart-) Jason Dike. Mark looked great at Vivienne Westwood’s after-show party last night with his fur-lined coat, oversized glasses and slick boots.

By admin on September 18th, 2008

Estelle, Ozwald Boateng, Nat Weller, Tolula Adeyemi and snowboarder/model Charlotte Dutton were some of the names who came to Harrods for the launch of a beaming André Benjamin’s Benjamin Bixby menswear line.

André 3000 as he is known to Outkast fans turned up looking suitably retro in turned-up jeans, green polo and a dogstooth jacket.

Matthew Williamson, Patrick Wolf and Henry Conway at the On|Off party

By admin on September 16th, 2008

The On|Off party was a truly special event with massages and mini-spa treatments galore, and limited edition goodie bags created by Natalie Thakur who is known for her leather homage to the plastic bag.
As if that wasn’t enough indie child prodigy Patrick Wolf played a storming set, but what I want to know is where has the red hair gone? Check out gallery to see what Matthew Williamson and Henry Conway were wearing.

Henry Holland gives Levi’s the 90210 treatment

By admin on September 2nd, 2008

hoh_90210levisannounce.jpgFrom Catwalk Queen:
House of Holland is once again teaming up with Levi’s for a six-piece capsule collection, which has been inspired by Beverly Hills 90210.

Being a tribute to 90210 , does that mean we can expect a bit of stone-wash, mum-waist, rolled-up jean a la Dylan McKay style? Hmm… perhaps not.

Pieces will feature print and laser-cut jeans style, making use of floral and polka dot designs.

Just like his debut range for the denim brand, Holland will showcase his new collection at his forthcoming London Fashion Week show on September 17th. Only this time, they will go straight into Selfridges for sale the day after the show.

Talk about hot off the catwalk.

Unconditional at London Fashion Week

By admin on February 16th, 2008

Unconditional

Unconditional is without doubt my favourite collection which shows at London Fashion Week. Autumn Winter 08 is a real return to form for the label with some fresh new looks.

Last season’s show was nice, but was a bit of a safe collection for them, delivering more of the same fine gauge knits, draped and gathered garments and chest-baring T-shirts that they’ve become known for.
This season they’ve moved in a more tailored direction without losing their slouchy silhouette.

Gareth Pugh at London Fashion Week

By admin on February 16th, 2008

Gareth_pugh

Mr Tumnas* trousers anyone? No, didn’t think so, but then that’s not what outré designers like Gareth Pugh are for. He exists so Kylie can wear him and people will say “Ooh, Kylie’s wearing Gareth Pugh, she’s still got it”.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Gareth Pugh’s great. He’s a real auteur and has the ability to create breathtaking looks.

Deryck Walker at London Fashion Week

By admin on February 15th, 2008

Deryck_walker

Deryck Walker started his career with Boudicca, before working with Robert Carey Williams. His clothes are sold in Dover Street Market and his side projects include art installations in some really terribly cool galleries. But despite this résumé, his latest collection is surprisingly conservative. Lovely, but conservative.
