3sixteen tell us what they’re wearing this summer, & whether they prefer Speedos or shorts!

By admin on May 15th, 2009

3sixteensummer lookbook.jpg

We featured a sneak peek of the 3sixteen A/W collection recently, and they’re back, this time Johan Lam, one of the 3sixteen designers, answered our questions about his sartorial summer.

What are you going to be wearing this summer? Any new trends/pieces that you’re going to be cracking out?
It gets pretty hot in LA during the summer, so my uniform these next few months will be Quoddy boat shoes on my feet, seersucker button ups and solid colored v-necks on top, and a combination of cuffed denim or chino’s, cropped khaki’s, and knee high shorts on bottom. Ankles out!

Love the Look: J.W Anderson S/S 2009 Look-book

By Will Reid on February 24th, 2009

jw9.jpgJ.W Anderson is a fringe designer who is fast-becoming one of the edgiest and coolest designers on the menswear scene. His Spring/Summer 2009 look-book is styled around themes of religion and from the title, ‘An Eye for an Eye,’ to the rosary beads and ornate headdresses, his theme is strong and bold. The look-book is full of subtle allusions to places of prayer; the smoky incense of Catholic churches to the opulent prayer mats of mosques.

The look above is second last in the look-book and please enlighten me (pardon the pun!) as to how you couldn’t like this shot. The intensity of the model’s stare and the contrast of plain shorts and extravagant crown works to create an utterly brilliant look.

Silas Winter Lookbook

By Jonathan Smith on November 25th, 2008

silas-winter-2008-lookbook-6.jpg

A while ago when Silas pulled out of the UK I was pretty gutted because at the time they were my favorite brand due to the fact that their T-Shirts fit so damn well, the actual design of the T’s were less important to me but to be fair these were just as great. Silas has returned to the UK (though the brand still concentrates on its much larger following in Japan) and has grown up a wee bit with some smarter pieces to their range such as the awesome knitwear and coats featured in this winter 08 lookbook put together by Unbar.

WISHLIST: Stephen Jones ‘Cactus’ Beanie

By Will Reid on July 22nd, 2008

Cactus.jpgStephen Jones, the milliner extraordinaire and all-round fashion hero, has just released his collection for Spring/Summer 2008 and it is the ‘Cactus Hat’ from this ‘Desert Rose’ JonesBoy collection that takes place as the 19th thing on our WISHLIST.

The ‘Cactus Hat’ is a mixture of wool and beads and shows a desert landscape (or at least the kind of desert where each cactus plant is perfectly tipped with a vibrant orange bead.) So who needs the summer? We might not be getting any sun but now you can wear the season on your head while actually staying warm.

Does this guy pull off the short suit look?

By admin on July 8th, 2008

yayornay.jpgThis portrait of a F.I.T student in New York magazine’s look book isn’t technically a short suit, it’s a blazer with shorts – but it’s close enough. We’ve seen a multitude of badly worn short suits lately but this one is a lot closer to looking good than the rest. For starters the top half is great – nicely tailored blazer, great shirt and nice use of colour with the tie. The bottom half, however, is a different story.

For starters his short shorts are too wide, and make his legs look like matchsticks. But the socks are really what kill the outfit for me. But enough of my opinion, what do you think? Take the poll after the jump and let me know if you reckon this chap finally got the short suit right.
