We’re so glad Neville Staple has ditched the dodgy mid-90s dreads and is looking shipshape for the (partial) Specials reunion. Proving that the Rude Boy look is timeless and stylish, Neville sports a hat and check shirt. Simple and effective. Ape the look by sticking to vintage or quality new and trying to keep everything as fuss free and classic as possible.
The Specials staged their comeback at London’s Brixton Academy this weekend, jump through to see Terry Hall et al performing on the night.

Ville, snapped by the Hel Looks team, has a stylish, easygoing look we love. A pair of skinny jeans and white hi-tops make up quite a basic outfit, but the addition of a pastel knit scarf gives the ensemble a feminine slant and is perfect for spring.
The grey trench adds to the delicate feel and the slouchy shape contrasts nicely with the slim silhouette.

I know, I know; Topman has become a bit of a regular feature on Brandish but when I noticed this look on the label’s website during my regular internet trawl, I couldn’t resist commenting.
While I’m not too sure about the rather peculiar Alice Dellal haircut (as highlighted in a previous Brandish post.) I think he gets off with it due to his incredible look- brash patter shirt, acid-washed jeans and skinny belt…but messy enough to avoid the overly-manicured style of the 80s fashionisto.
More to come on Topman’s ‘Motel Arizona’ look soon!

Proving that you don’t need to go for mundane colours in a smart outfit, this young gent is sporting a fantastic khaki suit. It runs the risk of looking a little drab but thanks to some clever combinations of colour he’s managed to turn it into something a little special.
A cranberry-coloured cardigan contrasts nicely, and the faux-tortoiseshell buttons match the suit to bring it all together. The real star of the show is the baby pink shirt, a white shirt might have killed this look, but the imperceptibly rose shirt gently underlines the point made by the cardigan.

When you see a photo of a teen wearing a prom tuxedo jacket fashioned entirely from Coke cans, you have to wonder what the teen in question does with their free time. This guy, a Napoleon Dynamite-lookalike with a penchant for commercialism, has decided to venture into eco-friendly fashion and after the jump you can witness the entire creation of the waistcoat and jacket (plus bowtie!) from metal to masterpiece. Sadly, this look is more Sideshow Bob than Stella McCartney.

Chris Rock was snapped recently leaving the Ivy restaurant in Hollywood sporting an outfit which demonstrates menswear at its pared-down best. I love the intense blue of the jumper, which lifts the outfit from pedestrian to notable. The suit trouser trainer pairing is a little bit late ’90s but that’s kind of endearing and perhaps a look due for a comeback?

Taking the scruffy look which Jarvis does so well and giving it a bit of spit and polish this gentleman carries off a timeless look with elegance.
The hunting green of the cape is echoed in the scarf and the navy trousers and brown shoes reinforce this further. The final touch is the way the silhouette of his outfit matches his companions perfectly, showing how to coordinate with your loved ones without looking like a dolt!

This year’s Red Nose Day campaign is in full-swing and everyone from Fearne Cotton to Fern Britten is doing something funny for money. Dom Joly, the comic-genius and all-round bon viveur behind Trigger Happy TV, has joined the show Comic Relief show ‘Let’s Dance’ and last Saturday we saw him imitate the style and dance of the infamous MC Hammer.
To achieve the Hammer-style, Joly donned a pair of rather hideous Harem pants in the ever-popular gold lamé. Add chains, hi-tops and logo-print headbands and you have yourself a RND look. Remember, everyone loves the funny man!
Why not do something for Comic Relief yourself?

I’m a little bit in love with Lassi from Hel Looks today; the young Finn’s outfit isn’t that extraordinary but there is nonetheless something magical about it.
I think it’s the air of smalltown desperation which reminds me of William H Macy’s character in Fargo, the coat and cap which give off this impression are, of course, from Finnish charity shop UFF. Lassi himself says: “My style is inspired sport and political history of the 70′s and the 80′s, for example distance-runner Steve Prefontaine” which is probably one of the most brilliantly obscure references I’ve ever heard of. Hats off Lassi!

Bit of a controversial choice this I’m sure, but for me this chap has got style in buckets. Coral was such a hit for women last year and the year before I hope it’s as big in menswear this year. It looks great with my other favourite colour, grey and is a surefire winner with all the washed out pastels we’re seeing at the moment.
Back to our Nipponese gentleman, his pairing of the shirt with a navy pair of shorts reveals his expert fashion nous and it’s set off wonderfully by his gold plaited belt. Now clock last years’ one hit wonder, the Wayfarer style sunnies and tell me he’s not your new style icon?

Agreed, the camel coat in the foreground is very stylish and wonderfully tailored, but for me, this picture is all about the background.
Look at the slim-fit trousers, the chunky but not bulky coat and the cutaway collar. The piece de resistance for this ensemble is the colourful paisley scarf, no generic stripy confections for this man! The rich colours warm up the dark coat and add a playfulness to what is a quite a sober look. Get down your local charity shop or retro store and pick up a fancy, dandy, colourful scarf to liven up your winter outfits.

This week’s Love The Look features the wonderfully odd Terrence Koh (artist, fashionisto, sperm-collector, sculptor of crap and other bodily fluids.) Koh has just been made the face of hip label United Bamboo and the ad campaign for this season is an extravaganza of tinsel, blurry shots and classic tailoring with quirky details.
The image above and the rest of the campaign images after the jump will all debut in the Spring/ Summer issue of Fantastic Man.

New year, new offices. In case you hadn’t already noticed from our Twitter feed we’ve relocated 15 mins down the road to the entirely different world of Soho and although we’re still adjusting I think it’s gonna be good.
What better omen for a move than finding a well-dressed young man smoking outside your offices? Even better, Frank as he is called works on our floor so he might become a regular Love the Look apparition. Frank rides a bike, hence the skinny jeans and he tells me his cool belt is from the faraway land of America. His African scarf is just a simple piece of fabric, and he has a few some he buys, some he nicks off his mum.
As you can see from the background and the lighting our new offices are mmm, corporate but who knows what other sartorial gems are hiding behind the frosted windows?

Shawl collars have been this winter’s trend detail in menswear and they’ve been a great way of updating the now slightly pedestrian cardie.
This guy has chosen a wonderfully luminous shade of blue and teamed it with a winter-sky grey jacket which makes it glow even more. What looks like a felt baseball cap adds a modern yet minimalist touch to the look, bravo!

Grey on top, blue below. It’s like a colour version of a mullet, business at the front, party at the back and works really well.
Keeping the top half neutral and grey makes the blue denim really pop, and having a blue bag in a similar colour is a clever touch. Layering a blazer over a jumper and shirt is an easy way to keep warm in warm and gives off relaxed, smart vibes.
