Can You See it…Which Popstar Has Been Taking Style Cues from Calvin Harris?

By Will Reid on May 6th, 2009

Calvin Harris, the Dumfries-born DJ who is often tipped with providing the backing track to the vintage wave of last summer, is currently topping the charts with his ‘I’m Not Alone’ and while watching his latest video I was suddenly aware of the BOT male’s striking similarity to another No. 1 popstar…

Get the Look: Marlon Brando in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’

By Will Reid on May 5th, 2009

streetcar.jpgWhen my English teacher announced we would be studying ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’ I have to admit to a light leap of the heart as I reminisced on John Galliano‘s ‘Blanche DuBois’ collection of 1988 and Marlon Brando in all his retro glory; oozing sex appeal and hard-edged fashion prowess. With these thoughts in mind, and a bit of time spent re-watching the iconic film made in 1951, I set about creating an outfit based on the look of Stanley Kowalski.

I’ve mixed a pair of amazing chino/casual-esque trousers with a bit of a vintage feel and a thin leather belt from with a basic tee from Topman and a pair of roughed up plimsolls from New Look. This is simple and seemingly effortless but the look as a whole is incredibly effective at turning you into a rugged, alpha-male icon. Now, with the fashion bit past, can anyone do a good New Orleans accent?

News from New York: The Return of Ombré

By Will Reid on February 18th, 2009

00130m.jpgSince I started on Brandish just over a year ago, I have repeatedly examined how trends begin in womenswear and eventually make the leap to menswear some few seasons later. Well now the Ombré trend worked by womenswear designers such as Jonathan Saunders and Prada almost three seasons ago has been dished out in rather glorious spades by designer Robert Geller.

Geller has managed to take the trend and work it in a way that is masculine and edgy (a rare occurrence in the world of menswear) and this shirt looks set to make my WISHLIST as soon as it hits the shops in a couple of months.

Brandish Review: Korres Men’s Range Products

By Will Reid on August 5th, 2008

korres.jpg“Oh golly gosh- that looks like it may be over 100ml. Oops for you!” *Grab* “Now, do you know how to reschedule a flight?” I’d like to say that the dragon-lady at Gatwick had spoiled my day by treating me like a dumb blonde (brunette guy by the way!) but it was truly ruined when she took my new Korres products.

The Ginseng Facial Fluid and Ruscus and Chestnut Eye Cream are two amazing products combining natural ingredients with that all improtant dermatological testing for an intense cosmetic experience.

Manilow Manorexic- An Actual Fear or Tabloid Fodder?

By Will Reid on July 21st, 2008

barrymanilow.jpgLast week’s diet poll obviously hit home for a lot of you- but in a way that I had not expected. I confess to being a guy who is conscious of my weight and I have dieted. I see nothing wrong with wanting to fit into a pair of skinny jeans but thought I was of a minority. However, that appears not to be the case; 57% of you voted that there was nothing wrong with watching your weight and had therefore dieted.

I know that most of you are unlikely to be suffering from an eating disorder but it appears that ‘Manorexia’ is no longer a fad-word put out by editors trying to fill pages of a cheap magazine but a reality edging it’s way into pop culture.
