As the lovely chap in our Yay or Nay heels debate demonstrated there is a burgeoning trend for men to co-opt traditionally female fashion status markers like heels and bags.
Pauric Sweeney’s bag is no half-measure, it’s pure luxury with a combination of python and leather and discreet hardware. It’s such an intricate bag I’m not entirely sure I could see many men going for it, I wouldn’t mind it myself I just need to find a boyfriend who can afford the £1,480 price tag so I can steal it off him!

DJ Spoony reveals his shopping secrets

By admin on August 22nd, 2008

dj spoony golf shopping guardian.jpgDJ Spoony has been telling the Guardian about his favourite type of shirts, where his manbag is from and all other types of fashion-related stuff.
A bit of a surprise was the mention of Burton in his favourite UK shopping destinations:

“For clothes, Harvey Nichols or Selfridges are good. And Burton is nice now as well, honestly. I’ve found some real gems with their jeans and T-shirts. They fit beautifully and they wash well.”

I have to say his description of shopping is in my mind the only way it should be done: “I’m a hitman – in and out.”

Liberty Embossed Leather Holdall

By admin on May 23rd, 2008

As far as I know, Liberty of London didn’t have an online accessories store until fairly recently. It’s pretty slim pickings at the moment but these embossed leather holdalls half-caught my eye. I say half caught my eye because while I do like the shape and design of the bag there’s just something off with the bag.

I can’t put my finger on exactly what’s wrong with this bag – apart from the £395 starting price – but there’s a very strong whiff of ‘tasteless Russian billionaire’ about it. If you can get past that smell, then you can get these from the Liberty online store.

Arlington leather messenger bag

By admin on May 20th, 2008

messengerbag.jpg

For some bizarre reason, I’ve been fixated on finding the perfect leather messenger bag. I really can’t explain why, but I think my subconscious has decided on a look that hasn’t reached my conscious brain yet. Getting away from the inner workings of my mind, this Arlington leather messenger bag is perfect for whatever look my brain has decided for me. It would also look good for those days when you’ve had enough of a black messenger bag.

Another important point to mention is that this bag costs £65, which is a, dare I say it, cheap price for a leather bag. It’s not Primark prices, but you’re unlikely to see a bag of this quality for this price.

WISHLIST: Pauric Sweeney Bag

By Will Reid on April 22nd, 2008

browns.jpgSo I am back from a rather long and horribly intense camping trip and I’ve decided that maybe I need to be a bit less full-on when it comes to fashion. How much longer can we go on with these studs and chunks of waxed crocodile leather? To be honest I am worryingly attracted to Jason’s idea of living in pyjamas for a while.

However, when items like Pauric Sweeney’s gem-coloured bags turn up on Brown’s with white piping and “bronze perforated pockets” I am reminded of why I love fashion. Okay, at £800 this love may seem slightly conditional but who was it that said beauty is pain? Whoever it was they must have had a great wardrobe. This season has seen the reinvention of classic items and whether it be the Chanel 2.55 for the girls or the Chelsea boot for men, get on board this embellished bandwagon.

Who hates the term ‘manbags’?

By admin on April 4th, 2008

bagcollage copy.jpg

The Guardian had an article up about men with messenger
bags
– I refuse to call them ‘manbags’ – Although I just did. Damn. They ask five people ranging from Topman’s design director to NME’s editor about what’s in their bags, what make their bag is and how they feel about the term ‘manbag’.

The answers as to what’s in them are relatively the same; books, notebooks, ipods, phones, everything that’s too big for your pockets. The fuss over ‘manbags’ is a silly one. They’re just a replacement for rucksacks – not an example of a new breed of man emerging. The reason they’re popular is because they’re functional and fashionable, with the emphasis on functional. There’s nothing more to it than that.

By ShinyMedia on May 11th, 2007

Diormanbag
A recent study by the Luxury Institute revealed that when it comes to buying bags wealthy men are much more label conscious than their female counterparts.
The Luxury Institute focuses on the top 10% of America wealthy and found that men opted for designer labels 73% of the time compared to wealthy women, who went for the label 50% of the time. The most fabulous manbag I could find is this Dior confection which will set you back $1585 from e Luxury and yes it really is for men!

Fashion Icon: Kel Knight

By ShinyMedia on May 1st, 2007

Kelknight

I must confess I have a bit of a crush on Kel Knight; I don’t know if it’s the grey leather moccasins, the collection of coordinating manbags or his fabulous dancing skills but the man’s a definitely an icon. Go forth to the charity shops and pick out an outfit that will make you look as "spunky" as the Aussie hunk himself.

Top Five: bags

By ShinyMedia on April 16th, 2007

Bagcotton
Manbags have come a long way from Kel from Kath and Kim’s grey pleather pouch. There are many bags on the high street to choose from, starting with the bag that kicked off the whole trend. The cotton tote was a staple with young men in Japan for years before becoming trendy with emo kids and hip young things over here. Burton’s bag is a lovely holdall perfect for a weekend away, or just for storing your laptop. Similar classic style, but slightly smaller, Zara’s satchel is perfect for everyday use. Lastly, Ollie & Nic make wonderful women’s bags and their burgeoning men’s collection features the same quality and style. See after the jump for the top five and product links.
