Nas does Complex Cover shoot

By admin on June 11th, 2008

nas-colorful-5-560.jpg
Non followers of Hip-Hop may be surprised to know Erykah Badu is widely credited with transforming Andre 3000′s – and to a lesser extent, Common’s – style. On the basis of this Complex cover shoot, you could say that Kelis is doing the same for Nas.

In the cover shoot – which was reminiscent of Lupe Fiasco’s first album – Nas dons Bottega Veneta, Prada and Marc Jacobs for a sportswear inspired shoot. The only top grade rapper left to jump upon the fashion bandwagon now is Jay-Z, who wears stylish clothes but refuses to slim down in any of his clothing – giving him the look of Tony Soprano rather than a fashion forward gentleman. I suspect that’s what he was going for.

By admin on May 30th, 2008

SSS-BANNER.gif

I have some good news and bad news. The bad news is that the first Valentino sample sale finished yesterday. The good news is that the Secret Sample sale is still on and doesn’t finish until Saturday. They also feature everyone from Vivienne Westwood to Marc Jacobs and all at the usual sample sale discounts of up to 80%.

Directions to the 20th Century Theatre in Notting Hill are included after the jump.

Interview- June/July 2008- Marc Jacobs is Andy Warhol!

By Will Reid on May 19th, 2008

marc jacobs.jpgContinuing his penchant for artist/fashion collaborations, Marc Jacobs has taken to this month’s Interview cover as Andy Warhol. The magazine was founded by Warhol and this month marks the artist’s 80th anniversary.

WWD has reported that the fashion designer was shot by Mikael Jansson after Todd Eberle spotted him at a party and told Interview’s Glenn O’Brien “Gee, Marc Jacobs is the new Andy Warhol.” WWD tells of how Marc was told of similarities between himself and Warhol but claims “Warhol is Warhol. He’s practically a god. I thought, ‘I’m going to get a lot of hell for this.’”

Trends: Watch & Wear- Navy SEAL Zeal

By Will Reid on April 30th, 2008

00010f.jpgList any of this season’s It-items and chances are they are water-related or wave-inspired. Yes, that means you boat shoe, loafer, plimsoll, striped tee and navy (hello!) blue shirt.

The mood is light yet determined and spray-in-the-face cool. Imagine sea-side escapades (emphasis on the imagine) and sand between your toes as you loosely raise that striped knit from your oversized Jil Sander mesh-holdall.

Look to the collections of Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton (left) and see after the jump for a full report of this operation. Oh, my fellow SEALs, the time has come for a full-scale suppression of those autumnal tones.

Robert Geller S/S 2008

By admin on April 29th, 2008

geller.jpg

(Click on image for full size picture)

German Born, New York based designer Robert Geller is a very new kid on the block. His label only launched in A/W 07, after working at Marc Jacobs, revamping Cloak and creating a women’s wear range called Harald. The following sentence will sound a little odd, but I’m going to look at a S/S 2008 range while we’re actually in the same season.

While – bar the lime green shorts – none of the pieces break the mould, they are very wearable and could be blended into ones personal style without looking like a store mannequin. Trenches, leathers (jackets and trousers) and cardigans are the staple pieces of the collection and, apart from the leather, they all look ready to wear in these upcoming sunny days. Whilst the label doesn’t have a UK stockist at the moment, you can order some of the items from Blackbird.

Stand alone Marc by Marc store to open in London next year

By admin on April 17th, 2008

mbm.jpgRejoice! Everyone’s favourite diffusion line is about to set up fully-owned shop in Europe this year, reaching the UK in early 2009.

Boosted by a 30% year-on-year rise in US revenue, M.b.M. is looking across the Atlantic to Paris and a spot on Place Marché Saint Honoré (conveniently near Collette). Both a women’s and men’s shop will be opening up in the same area, spanning a total of 2,100 sq. ft.

The London store will debut in early 2009, across the road from the existing Marc Jacobs boutique in Mayfair, at 56 South Audley Street.

“Europe is such a different market, but Marc by Marc Jacobs’ sales per square meter is higher than any other retail store in the word, so we’re confident,” says Marc Jacobs president Robert Duffy.

Marc Jacobs interview

By admin on April 17th, 2008

marc_jacobs_page_1_image_0001.jpgMen.Style.com have a great article on Marc Jacobs up where he addresses issue with his shows, his body and accusations of a midlife crisis. His response to the latter is “I don’t feel like I’m in crisis, and I don’t know that it’s the middle of my life”. Fair enough.

While it’s great he’s decided to get fit and all, he does look slightly bizarre – like a regular persons head stickered on top of a picture of a Calvin Klein model. Andy Peters and Gary Rhodes also have this effect and there’s something slightly unsettling about the look of it. Not that I’m knocking them for working out, I’m just saying.

Ute Ploier Shorts from b Store

By Will Reid on April 1st, 2008

UTE SHORTS.jpgFrom Marc Jacobs to Topman, McQ to Uniqlo, short shorts have undoubtedly secured their place as the menswear item of the season – and possibly the year. If I said they needed an adopter than Brandish is the orphanage. We have given you examples of short shorts in a spectrum of colours, fabrics and prints and Jason even took it to a political platform!

If politics is your thing, these PVC shorts from Ute Ploier are the David Cameron of this trend (and by that I don’t mean they have their own cringy webcast or a penchant for innocent smoothies.) Quirky, original and edgy these shorts would be perfect for night with a crisp white shirt and dove grey blazer or for day with a plain white t-shirt, raspberry American Eagle jumper and white plimsolls. Most of all just relish in the fact that you can wear PVC short shorts and still be in fashion.

Black shorts, Ute Ploier, £155

Marc Jacobs spoof adverts by Hart+Larsson

By admin on March 20th, 2008

hart larsson new enthusiasm marc jacobs spoof juergen teller1.jpg
Forget Holy Moly or Popbitch on this pre-bank holiday work slump, while away a couple of hours on Hart+Larsson’s website for they are the geniuses behind the Marc Jacobs spoof adverts doing the rounds on the web at the moment. The images were posted on The New Enthusiasm and display all the hallmark characteristics of a Marc Jacobs ad except with Hart and Larsson themselves dressing as Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe. Somehow I think after this ol’ blue hair will have to change advertising tack, or else get Hart+Larsson on board, which would be amazing times infinity.
Fashionista were the ones who got to the bottom of mystery, when they received an email from the mischievous pair; see after the jump to read the email and for more of the inspired images.

My Theory- The Future of Short Shorts

By Will Reid on March 17th, 2008

00340m_2
“You were on my mind at least nine tenths of yesterday, it seemed as if perhaps I’d gone insane. What is it about you that has commandeered my brain? Maybe it’s your…” Kimya Dawson’s brilliant lyrics ring through my head as I realise that it appears I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than listen to the Juno soundtrack (heads up my friends, it’s great) and appear pensive and philosophical while typing away at my laptop. That is until you know what is causing me so much mental frustration- I am deciding upon my ‘theory’ (as named by Jason and furthered by Isabelle) regarding the devious short shorts trend.

Short shorts were a feature of last season’s shows and where better to take lead from than the trend-barometer that is the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection (right.) I was quite comfortably on the fence until I received a peculiar delivery from a well-intentioned but elderly great-uncle.

Now’s the time to go high end clothes shopping

By admin on January 29th, 2008

Marcjacobsjumper_2
There’s never been a better time to get
high end clothing. With all the high street stores being raided on the first
few days of their sales, high end stores don’t sell nearly as much. Around this
time, most stores are forced to sell their clothes at the price they got them
for. Which why Matches are selling this Marc
Jacobs cable knit cardigan
for the relatively low price of £175.

I know it’s still nearly £200 but it is a
Marc Jacobs piece. And it’s 100% virgin wool. Virgin wool is a misleading title
as most wool these days is technically of the virgin kind. I personally think
they just called it that to arouse men who are fans of cardigans and bestiality.
