Trend alert – 60s mod monochrome black and white shirts, trousers and more

By Stefano on November 16th, 2012

Ikon Jam Shoes £58

As worn by Paul Weller, and thousands of over 80s mods. Really striking shoes Ikon

One of the likely big trends in women’s wear for next is year monochrome black and white.  Think Bridget Riley, op art, stripes of varying lengths, maybe a bit of dogs tooth too.

Apparently stripey op art style dresses by the likes of Marc Jac0bs are predicted  to drip on down to the High St.

Chances are that the mod monochrome look will also have an influence on menswear too, which is good news for the heritage brands who t are always selling 60 influenced clothes. Here are few items that are likely to be (coughs) bang on trend next year.

Which do you prefer? Lanvin’s trainers or Kanye’s kicks for Louis Vuitton

44% of you thought Kanye West‘s mullet was bad, but what do you think of his trainers? West recently designed a pair of trainers for Louis Vuitton, The 808s and Heartbreaks star spoke to Dazed Digital about his inspiration for the design: “They’ve got a sci-fi influence with this flap up at the back. It came from a scene in ‘Dune’ where there was this jacket with a huge collar. Also Japanese pop art.” He also said: “I’m a walking billboard but to be able to now create something from scratch is amazing.”

But how do they compare to Lanvin‘s trainers? Do you prefer the 80′s nostalgia and sportswear chic of the LV/Yeezy pair or the mix of materials and subtle colour matching of the Lanvins? Jump and tell us what you think in our poll…

Dude! Grab your board and celebrate Stephen Sprouse

By Jonathan Smith on January 6th, 2009

rtw2.jpg

What’s the betting that Kanye West wants one of these? He’ll probably get one too, but for us laypeeps these are a little out of our price range- pretty sweet though. The uber exclusive Steven Sprouse x Louis Vuitton skateboards cost a whopping $8,250 and come with a wicked bad trunk. Released this week at Vuitton’s SoHo flagship store, the skateboards and associated merchandise are all covered in the trademark Stephen Sprouse graffiti seen on the Marc Jacobs collaborated bag back in 2001.

Newsflash: Kanye West Designs Trainers for Louis Vuitton

By Will Reid on January 6th, 2009

After months of rumours and hipster-praying, Hypebeast has confirmed the rumour that Kanye West is to design a pair of trainers for Louis Vuitton. The trainers appear rather bland (they’re just white high-tops,) but they might prove to be a valuable base for many a winter outift. Kanye tells the online fashion magazine that the trainers are to be released in June of this year.

I wait with bated breath!

Celeb Style: Ashton Kutcher at ‘Flawless’ Premiere

By Will Reid on December 2nd, 2008

ashton kutcher demi moore flawless film premiere.jpgAshton Kutcher is one of my low-key style icons. Firstly, he started out as a model and it was he who introduced the now infamous ‘trucker cap’ to the fashion scene. Rumours were rife of a fashion collaboration when he was spotted note-taking in the front rows of fashion weeks and now he has provided us with even more style inspiration.

At the premiere of Demi Moore’s new film, ‘Flawless,’ Ashton was a picture of muted luxury with his regal red tie, opulent tweed coat and not-too-flashy Louis Vuitton scarf. This is a look that anyone can copy this Winter!

Marc Jacobs Menswear for 5 More Years (which is 5 more Christmases!)

By Will Reid on November 11th, 2008

00030m.jpgDNR reports today that Marc Jacobs International has signed a contract with Staff International (a part of Diesel founder Renzo Rosso’s fashion empire) that will see Marc by Marc Jacobs Menswear expand over the next five years. Already in Rosso’s couture stable are Dsquared2, Viktor & Rolf, Maison Martin Margiela and Vivienne Westwood.

The contract means that Staff International will have exclusive rights to the production and distribution of the Marc Jacobs menswear line but, with Rosso’s history of major successes, I think this can only be a good move for both parties.

UPDATE! Sean Connery for Louis Vuitton

By Will Reid on October 9th, 2008

Annie Leibovitz, Sean Connery, the Bahamas, Marc Jacobs and plenty of Louis Vuitton- sounds like a pretty enticing mix, doesn’t it? Well no longer must it remain a fantasy as days after Brandish giving you the gossip,WWD has released the ex-007′s advert for the French luxury-fashion house. After Keith Richards and Francis Ford Coppola, Leibovitz has again captured a mature cool that is slowly abolishing the bling/label-whore mood often synonymous with Vuitton’s accessories. The image above tells that “some journeys turn into legends” and the campaign is called ‘Core Values,’ emphasising heritage and a more sophisticated, timeless approach to fashion.

In these times of economic crunch, I know that I’ll be looking for pieces to invest in and that might just extend to a collection of these campaign images.

Outfit Pick: Gauche, Awkward and Isaac…

By Will Reid on September 16th, 2008

outfitpick2.jpgWith a new of series of Heroes about to begin, the unfortunate death of Yves Saint Laurent and the number of Clark Kent-y characters about in the most recent blockbusters, my style radar is tuned to the male who’s gauche, awkward and geeky in the best way possible. Think of 1970s art students carrying open sketchbooks around Paris, Isaac Mendez of Heroes lounging around his studio in over-sized chinos and Marc Jacobs around his grunge era (which means big glasses, baggy jumpers and lots of corduroy.) I took a risk with mixing the denim shirt with dark jeans but the two items together are a wearable look that anyone can pull off.

Check out the product details after the jump and see how geeky you can get this winter- Argyle jumper anyone?

A Grunge Revival? Alan Cumming Seems To Think So!

By Will Reid on September 15th, 2008

rex_801664b.jpgRex Features describes the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys as an event to “recognise technical and other achievements for the 2007-08 TV season…widely considered to be a precursor to the main Emmys ceremony.”

In my world of tired soaps like Eastenders and Coronation St, this translates as an excuse for C-list stars to dress up in posh frocks a la the recent TV Soap Awards (or something along those lines) that occurred in Britain where everyone thought that Ashley Slanina-Davies from Hollyoaks was a style star because she actually had a YSL clutch (and, I admit it, she did look wonderfully 80s.)

Anyway, Alan Cumming decided to bring a different flavour to the LA-based awards and opted for grunge-hair and darker shades instead of the usual skinny-fit suit, Converse trainer and grey/black palette that we see from most of LA’s men.

Marc Jacobs celebustats: Kanye West, Jay Z, Jefferson Hack and Luke Worrall

By admin on September 9th, 2008

luke worrall jefferson hack kanye west jay z.jpgMarc Jacobs‘ shows are always a star-studded affair and this latest one was no exception. Marvel at Kanye West‘s grey suit and camel deck shoes, (why didn’t Jay-Z make a similar effort?!), wonder at Jefferson Hack’s eternal youth, coo over Luke Worrall who looks the epitome of a little boy lost and most importantly, click image to enlarge.

Stefano Pilati in Interview September 2008- Words Cannot Describe Him!

By Will Reid on August 22nd, 2008

interviewpilati1sept08.jpgI’ve just caught up on the contents of the September 2008 issue of the newly Fabien Baron-designed Interview magazine (we featured Marc Jacob’s cover a few months back) and found these pictures of Stefano Pilati, the YSL designer and all-round sartorial inspiration.

I can’t even write about them except to just point out the obvious: they’re jaw-droppingly brilliant.

See after the jump for more!

Even Marc Jacobs can get chucked out of art galleries if he dresses badly enough

By admin on July 16th, 2008

marc_jacobs_page_1_image_0001.jpgThis is only slightly fashion related, but it was such an interesting story I had to share it. According to the New York Post, Marc Jacobs was asked to leave an art gallery because he looked like he was homeless.

An insider states “A low-level employee was disturbed to see this guy walking around and asked him to leave. [Jacobs] left without a whimper. When the owner, Lisa Spellman, found out, she fired [the clueless staffer] on the spot.”

This does leave one wondering – Just how poorly was he dressed? I’m going to make a guess and say that he was probably wearing some of those crumpled classics seen in the SS09 shows.

Jermaine Dupri pledges his love for Marc Jacobs

marc jacobs jermaine dupri interview magazine tag records party.jpgJermaine Dupri showed his love for MJ at a recent Island Def Jam Party, by wearing a t-shirt with Jacobs’ recent Interview Magazine cover. Other ‘slebs at the showbiz party included Nas and Kelis.

The bash was to celebrate the launch of TAG Records (as in TAG Body Spray), which is a seemingly bizarre venture combining the the Proctor & Gamble-owned company’s marketing power with Dupri’s experience.

Marc Jacobs interview with Charlie Rose

By admin on June 17th, 2008

charliejacobs.jpg
If you were in love with the June/July issue of Interview, then this Charlie Rose interview should be of great interest to you. The interview features Marc Jacobs, Interview fashion editor Stephanie Seymour, Interview editor Glenn O’Brien (who looks like a Swedish Bond villain) and Chairman Peter Brant. They talk about how the edition came together, Warhol’s influence and how he was like.

I have no idea who Charlie Rose is, but judging from this video, he seems to be a more relaxed US version of Jeremy Paxman – albeit one who does tend to interrupt his interviewees a bit more. See the video for yourself after the jump.

Brandish Poll: Are You A Kiss-’n'-Tella Fella?

By Will Reid on June 16th, 2008

coreyhaim.jpgWhile silently delighting in the sleazy nature of the Daily Mail, I found myself drawn to Corey Haim’s tale of Posh Spice’s lack of pulling prowess. He claims that when Mrs. Beckham kisses she “does this little grrhh thing. What did it feel like? Like a girl gnawing on your lip!” Oh yes, that feeling…?!

Poor Posh, it must be rather rubbish to wake up and find that an 80s Teen-Idol has returned to rain on your sex symbol status (okay, maybe not sex symbol but let’s be nice!) It made me wonder if maybe I too would be rather boastful if I had got with the current Marc Jacobs model. Would I be whipping out stories of my romantic escapades with Lady B if I too had enjoyed her company? Or would I have enough self-repsect to keep quiet?

See the Brandish Poll after the jump to tell us what you think.
