How to wear a scarf – and ten you’d look great in

By Stefano on November 20th, 2012

In Winter, at least, the obvious purpose of a scarf is to keep your neck warm, but sartorially speaking a scarf has a multitude of uses from adding a splash of colour to an otherwise slightly dull suit through to adding a degree of formality to casual clothes.

Personally I am a die-hard stripey or houndstooth scar wearer. They can look superb when contrasted with plain knitwear – like a decent Merino or Cashmere jumper. You can buy stripeys everywhere from high street stores to the real thing – college scarves which these days are more likely to be found in vintage stores than charity shops.

A chunky scarf adds texture to your outfit, as does a lively pattern. A scarf can also be a block of colour which livens up your outfit (take note suit wearers!), be aware of the colour of your coat because generally speaking, the brighter the colour the worse it looks with black. Think of fuchsia or neon yellow with black; they could both look tacky unless done well. Choose a shade which is more unexpected think pumpkin, cobalt blue or forest green. Pick the right colour and it’ll liven up your winter complexion too!

Using your scarf as the finishing touch to a certain outfit works really well, think of Terry Thomas‘ silk scarves, they add a dose of panache to his look. Tootal has been kitting out well-heeled gentlemen in scarves for decades so they are a good place to start. If you have a bit more budget then Drake’s is the brand for silk scarves.

Don’t forget Savile Rogue too. It has been making Cahsmere footy type scarves for a while now and they are very classy – think Roberto Manicini more than Neil Warnock…

The Levi’s Made & Crafted Two Tone Leather Varsity Jacket

By Laura on November 30th, 2011

There is no doubt that the Varsity look has been big this fall, but now as we head into winter it is obvious the style is going no where fast.

Embrace quintessential collegiate style, with the latest offering from Levi’s Made & Crafted comes in the form of this beautiful two tone leather varsity jacket. Available in a muted navy blue and brown leather construction, the jacket furthers the vintage theme via its antique button hardware and ribbed shawl collar. Achieve a preppy Paul Newman vibe, by simply paring it with a classic white t-shirt.

The jacket is available now through MR PORTER

Jimmy Choo for men launching on Mr. Porter

By Laura on July 5th, 2011

Last December Jimmy Choo announced they were set to launch the brand’s return to footwear. And now after months of waiting, they are finally ready to launch the collection in collaboration with Mr. Porter

Given the months of hype around this new collection, I do wonder if they can possibly live up to the hype. That said if the short film ‘Walking the Line’, they created for the Men’s AW 11 collection is anything to go by, I am going to say – YES!

On a side note I love that the film is set in New York’s High Line park, as I had the chance to visit last week (see picture below). For those not familiar, the High Line was originally constructed in the 1930s, to lift dangerous freight trains off Manhattan’s streets. Recently it has been converted into a beautiful mile-and-a-half-long elevated park, running through the West Side neighborhoods of the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea and Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen. If your in New York make sure to check it out.
