For those of you with a penchant for hoodies, owning a pair of headphones is a no-win scenario. On one hand you could wear them under your hood, but that’s uncomfortable and annoying. On the other you can wear them over your hood, but at the cost of listening to slightly muffled music. That’s no longer going to be a …
It’s been no secret that the music industry has been suffering of late. Sales of CDs and MP3s are down, and while some people might try and blame piracy, chances are the convenience of streaming services that don’t bring in as much profit are likely to blame. But there is a saviour on the horizon, a resurrected musical messiah: the humble …
With the sheer amount of DJ related music apps available on the iPad, it’s no wonder that they’ve started becoming more popular with DJs, professional and amateur alike. The only problem is that as good as any touchscreen might be, it doesn’t have the same level of precision as a dial on a mixer. The solution? Stick some dials on the …
Haim have topped the BBC Sound of 2013 list, lining up the Californian power-pop trio for a stellar year. The list (now in its eleventh year), aims to showcase the top bands and artists to keep an eye out for in the year ahead, with previous winners including Adele, Jessie J and Brandish favourite Michael Kiwanuka. Haim, comprised of three …

We’ve already lost the ability to promote our reading habits on the bust thanks to coverless-Kindles (maybe for the best if you’re a Fifty Shades fan…), and there’s nothing more obnoxious than blasting out your favourite tunes through a smartphone loudspeaker. The true gent flaunts his impeccable taste in more subtle ways. When it comes to music, how about these …
Calvin Harris, the Dumfries-born DJ who is often tipped with providing the backing track to the vintage wave of last summer, is currently topping the charts with his ‘I’m Not Alone’ and while watching his latest video I was suddenly aware of the BOT male’s striking similarity to another No. 1 popstar…
Who’d a thunk ol’ Petri Dish was on You Tube?! Well here is showing us how to dress like Mark Ronson.
This seems to consist of a Specials-lite look of Ray Bans, retro jacket and pork pie hat. The respected music journalist doesn’t always hit the menswear mark, but to his credit he is self-depreciating enough to be loveable… Give it a watch!
Men.Style is great for tongue-in-cheek features and their
is not only perfectly-timed but a great read and (just to add some sense of validity to this post,) a good laugh. The feature aims to make you “a legendary host” and the site has got a few of America’s most refined movers ‘n’ shakers on-board to add their two pence to the Christmas-party-nightmare cup.
If you are planning to throw a party and you really hope it lives up to the obviously high-expectations of those who actually enjoy Christmas (which I hope is all Brandish readers!) then you have to read the full run-down of the guide after the jump!
Ever since Ronnie Wood ran off with his 18-year old mistress Ekaterina Ivanova, I have been keeping my eye on the new couple’s outfits. Throughout history, scandals have been defined by fashion; Princess Diana’s tiger-print swimsuit, Heather Mills’ patchwork suit, Monica Lewinsky’s ‘Blue Dress.’
I want Barack Obama to become the President of the USA. I do. Honestly.
However, telling you guys is enough for me and I don’t feel the need to have his name plastered across each of my outfits.
This season is one of continued focus on shape; the tulip skirt, the peplum, the over-sized collar. I have always leaned towards a slimmer-fit for hoodies and trousers but this season I plan to try something new. This ‘Panda‘ hoodie from Bape fits the bill perfectly, it is quite baggy and voluminous but it has a fitted waist resulting in a highly fashionable silhouette.
P. Diddy has graced the cover of L’Uomo Vogue‘s latest issue and I’m not sure what to think. Not someone who I associate with great style or fashion prowess (despite the cologne and menswear line,) P.Diddy looks a bit naff in my opinion.
But hey, at least he’s lost the suglasses for once! Tell us what you think by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Mark Ronson has always been a tiptop fashion star and this year has been awash with his sartorial influence. From the stripes and Mod look of early 2008 to the sharp tailoring in kooky fabrics. From the 50s rock-star (read: Elvis) to the fur-clad aristo-geek.
Now, Ronson is taking it upon himself to lead the way with the trapper-hat wearer, ‘Lightspeed Champion,’ look as first established by our (soon to depart-) Jason Dike.
A1 Bassline, you know him right? No? You know- the new face of Bassline House? Seriously? Not even Bassline House? OK well let me start at the beginning- Bassline House, a genre of music which is finally having its day in the sun after having putting in more than its fair term in the clubs of Sheffield and the North West. Older than Garage but (until now) less popular than Gary Glitter the genre is now getting the recognition it deserves and who is the (masked) young face leading the music revolution? None other than our Essex boy A1 Bassline!
Being the face of a Givenchy fragrance pretty much cements you as a style star (not that I would know but one must work on assumption when speaking of Britney-dating, ex-N*Sync stars!) Well, I was bitterly disappointed in Justin Timberlake’s outfit at the Fashion Rocks concert last week. JT wore a grey blazer from his new ‘William Rast’ range and a pair of hideous turn-up jeans with an odd silk tie- seemingly cut in half.
Is it just me who’s shocked by this lack of style sense? Vote in our poll below!
In previous months, I have reported on the possibility that maybe Brandish is read by major celebrities. We preempted Russell Brand’s short shorts, the change in mood of Mr Mill’s Style Column in the Sunday Time’s Style Magazine and now, it appears that our editor Isabelle may have inspired Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s new haircut. Days after claiming skinhead-inspired film ‘This Is England’ as style inspiration, Chris Martin has appeared at a BBC Radio 2 song session with his previously curly locks shaved off. Simple chance or Sartorial steal?
Anyway, what do you think of this new look? Continue reading to vote in our poll.
Another animated music video from another hip-hop fashionisto. This time it’s Common featuring Pharrell with a minimal video for “Announcement”. The animation comes with many an outfit change for the two rappers and many a b-girl for them to rap around, plus check out Common’s beard, it’s the business.
Love him or hate him (I hate him if you wanted to know, have I not mentioned before?) but Kanye West is back here on Brandish with a new music video and once again proving that he is a modern Renaissance Man he has directed this latest effort. The video for the song “Good Morning” is animated by influential Japanese artist and animator (obviously) Takashi Murakami and depicts Kanye as the famous bear late for his graduation.
Zoo Magazine has just released its ‘music’ issue with a set of four great covers. One sees Irina Lazareanu and Sean Lennon staring wide-eyes and iconicly-indie towards the camera. The second cover is just Irina, the third is Mick Jagger with a peek of 64-year old (yet washboard) stomach and the fourth stars Billy Idol.
