Zoo Magazine has just released its Music issue with a set of four great covers. One sees Irina Lazareanu and Sean Lennon staring wide-eyes and iconic-indie towards the camera. The second cover is just Irina, the third is Mick Jagger with a peek of 64-year old (yet washboard) stomach and the fourth stars Billy Idol.
There are many (loosely) music-related editorials with a mixture of hot, young, glittering stars and a few major musicians such as the previously mentioned Mick Jagger, Billy Idol and also, Wyclef Jean and Sebastian Tellier.
Read on for more pictures and information.

Last Friday, Jay-Z turned up on Jonathan Ross and as the guestlist was revealed, I was delighted to see good ol’ Jay-Z rocking the Geek-Chic look. But sadly for Mr. Z (can we call him that?) Matt Damon had tried the look over two months before. Usually an all-round innovator and owner of his own label, I have come to expect more of this man with those infamous 99 problems.
Okay, okay- maybe Im being slightly sarcastic but let’s be honest; that beige jacket is rather horrific. However, I’m liking the ‘Globe-trotter’ scarf tied into the loop of his jeans and with quotes like “home was like the cliché of rough…when I was nine I saw someone shot for the first time” and “my favourite is heartfelt music… I listen to Coldplay, 50 Cent, Kanye West,” what’s not to love?

Heroes and Celebrities, Video
By Will Reid on July 1st, 2008
Is it just me or has Style.com been handed over to the likes of M. Night Shyamalan and Wes Craven? Yes, it has previously been the site of some mad fashion experiments but after the ghost model (I know, I can’t stop mentioning it!) and now this video on the home of Liberace, one can only look for popcorn and blankets and hope for the worst.
The video, ‘Viva Liberace!’ involves a tour of Liberace’s Las Vegas home and whilst undeniably vulgar, I have to admit that the (in)famous pianist sure had a taste for the finer things. Howevr, in case you don’t believe my theory that this is a horror film in the making, read this quote from the tour guide; “as we’ve been walking around he’s been listening to us, he’s been watching us.”
See below for stills from the video including ceilings painted by Michelangelo’s relatives, stairs swathed in roses and much more…Beware!

At Radio 1′s Big Weekend this weekend, the line-up was that of a rather well-dressed bunch of bands. Madonna excluded. Looking at the photos from this Maidstone extravaganza of fun and frolicking, Irwin Sparks of The Hoosiers stood out as a Brandish-reading sartorialist. He has obviously caught on to our nautical debate and performed in a striped polo and chinos. Also interesting was the appearance (as in attendance not attire) of Usher who wore a Burberry-inspired leather jacket with oversized studs on top of a black vest (see Dan Gillespie of The Feeling.)
Pics below and more celeb style later- although that of a different genre.

As you may have noticed, Short shorts are a major topic of debate around Brandish. In fact, having failed to get my local MP to ask this at the House of Commons, I went to this week’s recording of Question Time. In between questions about the budget, I got up and yelled ‘but what about short shorts? Yay or Nay?’ I’ve got a funny feeling they won’t be airing that segment. It’s a shame really.
The whole short shorts debate has seen everything from Wham accusations to sly attacks on the colour purple (the actual colour, not the Oscar winning film). Reader Mark indirectly brought up the issue of people who are, shall we say, slightly larger than life wearing short shorts. That issue has been solved by the makers of skinny jeans – just don’t make them past a waist size of 36.

The NME Awards last night was a pretty stylish affair, most of the music crowd were dressed smartly although no one went for broke like the Arctic Monkeys at the Brits.
Bobby Gillespie looked splendid in a petrol blue suit and slim tie, I still think the Primal Scream frontman will be out-cooling everybody well into his ’70s. Chris Cain and indie prettyboy Keith Murray, the two remaining original members of We Are Scientists, rocked up proving the cliché that Americans are more tanned, have better teeth and are generally better looking than us Brits. Incidentally they are also wearing petrol blue tones, which might be an NME micro trend?
Reinforcing the pasty Brit stereotype was comedy pixie Noel Fielding who looks like he nicked his doctor bag from The Horrors (see after the jump). Agyness Deyn and Kelly Osbourne also looked pretty stylish at the event which saw Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons and Amy Winehouse take home awards.

This year’s Brit Awards saw a pretty varied spectrum of red carpet-dressing. The men either went for smart-casual monochrome (Take That) with accessories such as elaborate ties and glittery belts or glorious brights (look out for my other post on Mark Ronson and Mika.) But one group of well-dressed individuals stood out.
The Arctic Monkeys proved to be the attention-grabbing act of the night, whether it included their drunken thank-you speech (or slur,) winning the Best Group of the Year or their spectacular look. The band went for country costumes with full-on tweed and breeches. Admittedly you couldn’t wear it all the time but you have to admit that they do look rather enviously carefree and offensively upper class to the point of clay-pigeon cool. This year’s Brits were a fabulous reminder of why the world loves the UK. Some may have found the awards to be an alcohol-fuelled waste of time but at least we saw some genuine smiles and bright-eyes (more standard surprise than surgeon’s snip.) Deep breath- and onto the Oscars.

I was left really uninspired by the men at last night’s Brits. What a snivelling, dull bunch they seemed next to all those fabulous dames. Makes me want to become a lesbian.
However, when scrolling through the red carpet picks, I discovered this poisonous confection which I just couldn’t let pass without comment. I can’t bear Perez. I think he’s a poisonous little twerp. Not that that’s a bad thing per se but it bothers me that he doesn’t offer any of his own inadequacies for ridicule, just picks on other people’s, and I think that’s just rude. Wasn’t he brought up proper? Plus he reminds me of a Beagle Boy.
Whenever I see him dressed in something vile like this, it seems like he’s just trying to look hideous so he can act like he looks bad on purpose.
