Head Porter Brighton Collection

By Laura on March 31st, 2011

I am not sure why but I am feeling in a rather nautical mood today…. It probably has something to do with the fact I wish it was summer and of course summer = boats. Anyways rambling aside…I was recently pointed in the direction of this awesome Brighton collection by Head Porter, and its on days like this I desperately wish I owned half of it.

I love how they have simply applied thick navy stripes over their signature styles, including backpacks, waistbags, shoulder bags and even the nautically-relevant sling bag.

The bags are available now online via Head Porter.

Hackett Spring/Summer 2011 collection

By Laura on March 15th, 2011

The quintessentially British label, Hackett have launched their spring/summer 2011 collection. Comprised of four ranges, Hackett have tried to bring a classy sophisticated look to almost every summer event, whether it be a day in the country, a business engagement or just relaxing by the seaside. Although it is quite a traditional collection, I can’t help but love it. There are just so many timeless pieces worth the investment.

The four ranges include the Correspondent collection, which is inspired by “the globetrotting gentleman”, and incorporates light-weight, warm weather suiting and iconic travel garments, such as safari jackets, chinos and macs, with a contemporary cut and style. The Mayfair collection shows off the classic Hackett tailoring combined with knitwear in summery tones of fresh lilac, warm pink and mint green. The collection is a real blend of sophisticated, casual sportswear. The Caribbean collection continues a travel theme with bold colours and prints on cotton and linen trousers, shorts, polos, casual shirts, and swim wear. Finally the Nautical collection comprises of traditional maritime colours, and key pieces including a double-faced navy jacket with red lining, horizontal striped blazers, lightweight white suiting and nautical striped polo shirts.

For those of you who like the sounds of the collection your in luck because to celebrate the launch of the new season collection, Hackett is giving away an essential Hackett beach kit through their Facebook page. Check out their fan page here for all the details.

On a side note I absolutely love the photography for the collection. You can see more images on their Flickr page here

A.P.C stripe jumper from Start

By admin on September 24th, 2008

apc stripe jumper knit start nautical.jpgStripes are a bit overexposed in menswear generally but A.P.C’s knit jumper still feels fresh.
The classic nautical style looks less gimmicky in grey and oatmeal and the stripes are just the right width.

The four-button sweater is available from Start for £239, they recommend wearing it with a suit jacket (two buttons done up) which is a handy bit of advice. I’d team it with faded grey jeans, a pale cloth scarf and a pair of white canvas pumps but I’m boring like that!

Coats & Jackets

APC Herringbone Double breasted jacket

By admin on May 13th, 2008

apcjacket.jpgHold your horses, I’m well aware that there’s no need to buy a jacket in the midst of summer. But think about it, with the economy crumbling and the 10p tax rate eating up more of your pay, it’s time to start investing in quality pieces like this APC herringbone jacket.

Whilst the piece does fit with the nautical look, it will undoubtedly be much too hot to wear a jacket. On the bright side, the double breasted trend is set to continue on into next winter at least, so you’ll be buying an item that is in fashion whilst remaining stylish. The price is a very reasonable £159 and it’s available from Start.

Paul Smith boat trainers

If you like the nautical look but don’t
want to look like you’re in fancy dress, you may be reticent about buying boat
shoes. So why not go halfway and get these boat shoe inspired Paul
Smith trainers
?

The perfect blend of canvas trainer and
boat shoe, this is for someone who loves the idea of boat shoes but hates
tassels. They’d also match perfectly with that John Smedley
polo
and those Topman shorts.
The multicoloured laces would provide a welcome break from the blue and white
colours and could act as a sly splash of colour in any outfit. These are
available from Coggles.com and cost £70.

John Smedley Polo shirt

So, you’ve decided to go nautical this season – good choice. Most of the pieces are pretty timeless on their own and together it’s a look that won’t be copied by many, allowing you some individuality. The absolute best thing about the nautical look is that you’re spoilt for choice from the waist down. Finding the perfect top to finish off your look can be a quite a challenge but John Smedley aim to make the task easier with this Polo
shirt
.

The only way this top could be any more nautical is if it came with a sailor’s cap and keys to a boat. And at £122 you could say that it ought to come with these extras as standard. If the price doesn’t put you off, then you can get it from the official John Smedley website.

Cuckoo go a bit A.P.C this spring

By admin on March 13th, 2008

If you were saving up some money before you
got an A.P.C bag, then you’re out of luck – it’s sold out. Luckily Cuckoo have
a canvas
bag
that’s seemingly inspired by the A.P.C equivalent.

It would be unfair to accuse Cuckoo of
copying APC’s weekend bag and just making it smaller but there are several
striking similarities, as you can see from the above picture. The only
difference seems to be that Cuckoo’s bag is made from flimsier material. If you
like APC’s bag but have no need for a weekend bag right now, then this bag
should fit all your nautical needs. Plus it’s only £45. They’ll even make short shorts look a bit less…

Ted Baker go all APC

By admin on February 22nd, 2008

This striped
bomber jacket
has all the nautical touches of APC’s spring collection at
half the price. If there’s one word you wouldn’t associate with Ted Baker it’d
be ‘subtle’. But that’s what this jacket is, as they’ve resisted the urge the
write ‘TED BAKER’ across the back or make the stripes unsightly. All these
features make it a relative bargain at £140.
