Style – Clarks’ Marden Grove Navy Leather Shoes

By Stefano on January 29th, 2013

As ever Clarks has a superb range of classic casual men’s shoes and of its latest arrivals I am quite taken with these Marden Grove leather shoes. These are in navy and are already sold out on the Clarks store though you can get them here.  There are also versions in tan leather and wolf suede.

They are great quality navy leather with the twist being the piping, which is this year’s big thing apparently. Nevertheless they look great and retail for £59.99.

Time for a pea coat revival?

By admin on August 20th, 2008

Bringing coat styles back from the dead seems to be a favourite of designers at the moment. They did it with the trench coat and they’re trying the same with pea coats, with stores from COS to Liberty stocking updated styles of this classic look.

With an item as classic as a pea coats it’s always possible that you could get a better version from a vintage store. Given the preference for slim fit styling right now, the vintage version could be a bit too outdated, so which do you go for?

While Topman do have a perfectly lovely version on their website, Vintage is the way to go with this one. This pea coat from Rokit is a better shade of navy blue and just has more character than the Topman version. It’s available from Rokit’s site and costs £30.

French Connection’s vivid blue cashmere jumper

My new favourite colour is a rich dark blue that falls somewhere between cobalt and navy. Not as obvious as a bright Yves Klein blue but not as trad as straight navy, the colour looks great with the remainders of a tan.

French Connection
‘s new cashmere range includes a gorgeous crew neck in this exact shade for £85. Use it to pep up a wardrobe of neutrals, the slim fit is flattering and wont give any excess bulk to your silhouette. Block colours will also look good with the blue, try out a vivid orange or coral, dove grey or lemon yellow.

Coats & Jackets

Burberry Prorsum and Full Circle bold navy jackets

By admin on July 31st, 2008

burberry prorsum mac double breasted full circle matches navy blue cobalt.jpgBurberry’s double breasted jacket is such a captivating shade of blue. The luminous shade is midway between a navy and a cobalt and really draws the eye in without being too attention-grabbing. Unfortunately with a £1,018 pricetag there aren’t many people who will be able to actually afford it. Full Circle’s mac which comes in at £170 may not be the same luxurious blend of wool and cashmere but the colour is spot on and the fit is good.

It’s time to branch out with these Marks and Spencers socks

By admin on June 3rd, 2008

colourful socks.jpgIt’s easy to assume that socks shopping will be easy. You assume that stores will have socks with designs and plain socks, all in a variety of colours and made from good quality cotton that won’t get a hole in a couple of weeks. Sadly this isn’t the case. When this happens you have to branch out.

Although I would never usually go there, M&S have some great colourful socks that are well made and downright cheap. This assorted pack of socks cost £10 and come in sky and navy blue, red and pink.

French Connection Pad trousers

By admin on May 30th, 2008

french connection navy pad trouser.jpgFrench Connection’s ‘Pad’ trousers are a satisfying shade of rich navy which will look très chic teamed with other neutral for a classically elegant outfit. Try a white shirt with a rust coloured pocket square, or a white v-neck tee and grey cardigan for something more casual.

The cut is slim without being overly skinny and the creases are lengthening and flattering. At £70 they are a bit of an investment but they will easily become a staple part of your formal wardrobe and the navy is a sartorially intelligent change from boring black.

Paul Smith navy swim shorts

By admin on May 19th, 2008

paul smith navy swim shorts trunks.jpgHopefully this summer will sound the sartorial death knell for knee-length boardshorts. They’re fine on teenagers and actual surfers, but on a twenty or thirty-something male the look is a bit tragic.

Something a little more tailored and fitted looks far more fashion-savvy, these Paul Smith shorts are a reasonable £45 and look a lot more stylish than post-pubescent baggies. The neutral colour combination is so chic people will mistake you for a classy European on the beach. Team with Reebok classics at your peril!

Topman navy jacket

By Isabelle on May 10th, 2007

TopmancagSometimes you just want to wear something generic looking, something that doesn’t scream I’m Indie/Emo/Kooky/Townie/Suave etc… something that just is. Grey sweatshirts are great for a generic look, and this Topman jacket (£45) is also really quite good. The simple navy is lifted by the utility-style white zips and the slim fit that Topman  seem to be introducing to most of their clothing means that you’ll keep a smart silhouette.
