Look dapper in a…McDonald’s uniform by Wayne Hemingway???

By Gerald Lynch on June 22nd, 2012

Whether it’s pushing popcorn at a local cinema or flipping burgers beneath the Golden Arches, we’ve all had a crappy job at some point. It’s an important life stage; making you appreciate a hard day’s graft, letting you learn that the customer is always right (even when they are pushy, impatient, jumped-up dickheads), and helping you realise that YOU’VE GOT TO ESCAPE YOUR DEAD END LIFE BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.

It’s not helped along at all by the frankly embarrassing uniforms that you’re almost guaranteed to be forced to wear. When working in a local cinema chain for example, I had to wear a red short-sleeve shirt that, despite being a size small, would also have served Peter Kay perfectly as a one-man tent come festival season.

Which makes today’s announcement from, of all places, McDonald’s, quite interesting. The fast-food chain have enlisted the help of top designers Wayne Hemingway and Bruce Oldfield to help them create a new uniform line for their employees in time for the Olympics.

Spearheaded by McDonald’s exec Jez Langorne (who remembers with a tear in his eye the pain of donning the company garb in his early junior employee days), the line has been inspired by a 60s look, jumping on the Mad Men cultural bandwagon a bit.

So, fleeces, cheque shirts, polo tops and squat-peaked caps with the usual MaccyD’s coffee and yellow colour scheme will be in, with male managers sporting skinny ties while females get pencil skirts. Old issue plastic aprons will also be recycled, being greenly turned into new staff clothing.

So what do you think of Hemingway and Oldfield’s efforts? Enough to make you WANT a McJob? Let us know in the comments below. We’ll throw a Happy Meal toy in for the best response…

Alexander Wang Announces Menswear- Is Our Favourite Hipster Jumping on the Bandwagon!

By Will Reid on February 6th, 2009

Nitrolicious has revealed that Alexander Wang, the most recent fashion darling and It-designer, is to launch a menswear collection for Spring/Summer 2010. Adamant that he isn’t simply jumping on the bandwagon, Wang explains that “for us it’s a component that’s always been there..the idea has always been there, I’m just expanding it” in reference to his famously androgynous looks.

What do you think- would you be up for Wang’s signature baggy vests, scruffy trainers and cropped trousers? I’m already excited! Write on our Facebook Wall and let us know what you think.

Heartless launch online store

By admin on October 20th, 2008

The gothic script and dark colours suggest something of a cross between the worst of River Island and All Saints but scrape under the surface of Heartless and you’ll find a great selection of menswear. With online boutiques being few and far between for men any new etailer is a bonus for mankind, and what’s more they’re soon opening a store in Mayfair in addition to their Essex boutique.

Obviously Heartless are never going to veer completely off from their Essex roots, -and why would they?- but don’t let that stop you as the site is well worth a visit.

License to wear Louis Vuitton

By Jonathan Smith on September 26th, 2008

rex_592398g.jpg

According to WWD Sean Connery, ex Bond and cantankerous old man could be the next face of Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton, which has featured Mikhail Gorbachev, Keith Richards and Francis Ford Coppola in its “core values” advertising campaign, has landed another surprising agent for its message. Rumor has it Sean Connery, the original James Bond, has posed for Annie Leibovitz’s camera, just in time for the “Quantum of Solace” frenzy.

I would LOVE it if this were true, more old men in adverts I say! And pipes, definitely more pipes!

Do You Dare: YSL Touche Eclat for Men!

By Will Reid on September 8th, 2008

toucheeclat2.jpgHungover, Sleep-deprived, Over-worked, Unfit, Uncared for, Blemish-ridden; not exactly the ingredients for a healthy and handsome male are they? Well now, who cares? After you’ve smudged the Guyliner and poked yourself in the eye with Manscara, you might feel yourself in need of a bit of YSL’s new Touche Eclat concealer for men.

Yes, the weapon of choice for fashion editors and socialites the world over has been produced (fragrance free) for men, allowing the male species to live a life of clear skin and hidden ugliness.

The only question is, after previous (and let’s face it, unsuccessful attempts) at man make-up, will this gold pen/magic wand be bought up by us men?

Brandish Poll- ‘Luke + Kelly 4 Ever?’

By Will Reid on June 30th, 2008

lukeandkelly.jpgI’m officially torn- Luke Worrall, the male-supermodel and It-boy of the London fashion scene has been spotted (now that’s an understatement) with Kelly Osbourne. My question is whether she is a suitable match for a rising fashion star. I’m personally not a fan but then I’m a fashion writer who is rather over-protective when it comes to sartorial stars. That’s right Tom Cruise- don’t even try to get near our Aggy!

The couple were spotted at the ‘Night of Tease’ fundraiser at the Cafe de Paris on the 15th of May and have since been seen in more cute outfits and even cuter embraces. What do you think? Does ‘Worrelly‘ have a future or are we agreed that Ms. Osbourne and Mr. Worrall are as bad a match as Amy Winehouse and ‘Free Nelson Mandela?’ Poll after the jump.

Brandish Poll: High-Waisted Jeans

By Will Reid on May 20th, 2008

topman.jpgWhat a surreal start to the week; trawling Topman for a Monday Morning boost, I was hoping for a few print t-shirts but instead discovered the horror of the new ‘Premium High Waist Slim Jeans.‘ Yes, that’s right; after drop-crotch and MC Hammer (I don’t actually want to touch this) denim, we are being given the chance to try out the latest jean trend. The high waist has failed to get women on side à la skinny jeans simply because they are impossible to wear. In indigo, 100% cotton and selling for £45, I am left wondering if it is really worth the risk. What do you think?

See our poll after the jump!

WISHLIST: Uniqlo UT by Nicola Formichetti

By Will Reid on April 29th, 2008

uniqlonicola.jpgA few weeks ago I spotted something on Nicola Formichetti’s blog but thought it was too vague (being only a set of pictures) and decided not to post. Well now I wish I had because as part of the new Uniqlo UT T-Shirt Collection, campaign stylist Nicola Formichetti has actually designed a few pieces. My favourite is the one above, printed with a copy of Luke Worrall from the Dazed & Confused ‘Black and White’ cover of August 2007. Sharp, edgy and extremely wearable in it’s monochrome entirety, this tee would be a great buy.

Pop It Like It’s Hot…Snoop Dogg’s Cognac Copy

By Will Reid on April 23rd, 2008

snoopdogg.jpgSnoop Dogg has some explaining to do! Over at Fashionista, they have spotted this rather blatant copy of Jean Paul Gaultier’s ‘Le Male’ perfume bottle for his new Landy Cognac ‘Desir’ bottle design. Snoop Dogg is the latest spokesperson for the alcohol brand but he seems to be running dry of ideas (pardon that shocking pun!) So what do you think- horrific homage or careless copy?

Russell’s Been Reading Brandish…

By Will Reid on April 17th, 2008

What can I say? We do try our best here on Brandish and every so often an iconic-well-dressed-mega-major-celeb pays attention. Russell Brand is one of my favourite modern personalities and his part in the new film “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” looks set to provide more embarrassingly-crude but absolutely hilarious viewing. Watch the trailer above and look out for Russell’s short-shorts beach/ Yoga look (mistaken my those not as dedicated to the shorts debate as simple sportswear!)

Topman Dynamic Denim Feature

By Will Reid on April 3rd, 2008

denim2.JPGTopman has perfected the art of online retailing. Constantly changing and adding to their list of online sub-stores, there is now a separate store for accessories, t-shirts and even summerwear. The latest addition to the website is the Dynamic Denim feature. An essential to every man’s wardrobe, see after the jump for my pick of the label’s latest denim lovelies.

Everyday Fashion Miracles: Hand-Carrying Bags

By Will Reid on April 1st, 2008

Thumbnail image for t5bag2.jpg“I’d again like to apologize to those customers who have suffered disrupted journeys or baggage delays.” Well Mr. Willie Walsh, I have just spent a day imprisoned (okay, voluntarily withheld) in my flat. I have also just finished watching ‘The Ring,’ munched three bags of salt and vinegar crisps and devoured two diet Cokes. On top of this, I have just left the protection of my covers not only because the Jerry Springer marathon finished but also because I feel obligated to comment on the fact that BA has still lost my luggage. Sometimes sorry isn’t just hard to say but hard to take.
