Wishlist: Claude Grant Cropped Trousers from Oak

By Will Reid on April 24th, 2009

Picture 2.pngFor the British, summer is a time of seaside, (dubious) sun and 99p ice creams. It can be hard to find the perfect sun ‘n’ sea outfit and I won’t bore you with details of the economy but, basically, we should all be investing in classic investment fashion pieces. Could there be anything more perfect than these cropped trousers in a brilliant azure blue. At $798 (£542,) they might be rather over-priced (okay, very over-priced) but they can be worn in the heat with a basic white tee and Raf Simons gladiator sandals or in the winter with black brogues, a black tee and a grey cardie.

The one problem? They are only stocked up to a size 4 so, as if the beach wasn’t enough in itself, you now have even more reason to drag yourself to the gym after work!

More trouser options: joggers and (gulp) the drop crotch sweatpant

By Colin Chapman on February 24th, 2009

joggers.jpgFurther to my post about new trouser shapes yesterday, the drop crotch has definitely arrived. East London was awash with them at the weekend (mostly looking ace) and a quick search of the interweb reveals that Oak – New York’s directional boutique/web store – have sold out of the now-cult Corpus drop crotch sweatpants a couple of times over.

It’s not a look that will appeal to all – the harem shape is easier for women to carry off – glammed up with a shimmery fabric, a bit of gathering and some heels. For us guys, there’s a risk that you’ll look like you’re wearing a big nappy under those sweatpants. I can feel an Alexis Petridis piece in The Guardian mag coming on..

New York City Shopping

By Colin Chapman on December 12th, 2008

With the post-Obama glow making the US a desirable destination again, the pound not doing so badly against the dollar and hot guides like Buck magazine’s current New York issue, you may well be considering a shopping trip to NYC for Christmas or for the sales.

Head downtown where (reasonably) well known destinations like BBlessing and Oak offer the novelty of man boutique shopping at good prices (for us Brits at least). Ralph Lauren Rugby, aptly off University Place and not available in Europe feels like Vampire Weekend’s dressing up box. Other lesser-known places include TheCAST’s first retail store and Freemans – the offshoot of the uber-trendy restaurant.

If you make if off Manhattan (its EASY!) then Williamsburg has some great options: the original Oak store, the APC sale shop and Shoe Market (THE place in the city for deck shoes at half UK prices). Oak, TheCAST and BBlessing all have webstores if you can’t make it in person (though be cautious of those import taxes at the UK post office).

From a toothbrush for a fiver to some sunnies that will set you back $286 dollars, Sophia Kokosalaki’s aviators come in a mouthwatering purple tint.

Sunglasses might seem like an odd choice for a Yuletime gift but if someone gave me these for Christmas I would put them in a glass cloche as an exciting reminder of sunnier times until March or thereabouts. A wonderful injection of colour for any outfit these sunnies are available from Oak.
