We recently had a reader request about woven shoes, the reader in question wanted a pair of semi-formal shoes for summer, with a weave. Seb Law already mentioned that tatty plimsolls are not a good look for the warmer months, and woven shoes are a far more grown-up alternative.
Airy and breezy, Ask the Missus‘ white lace ups are just what every man who can’t quite face sandals needs. For high summer and holidays a pair of sandals with a braided detail are much more stylish than flip flops. The most rustic of the bunch, the brown woven slippers will be the only shoes you need for a summer holiday. Lastly, Officine Creative‘s woven loafers are modern take on a classic, and more than smart enough for the office. Jump through for full product details.

Clothing, Lifestyle & Gadgets, Suits & Tailoring

Reading through The Independent Online last night, I came across this article by Alice-Azania Jarvis on the art of dressing for work. As she states, “the thing about getting dressed for work – the thing that makes it so very difficult – is that work is definitely not about clothes. On the contrary: in the world of earnest employment, such frivolities are almost frowned upon.”
This isn’t true in the world of fashion, a Lacroix suit in blue silk can be just as suitable as a t-shirt and jeans but every job has areas where comfort and utility are a priority.
Follow this link for the article and master your workwear wardrobe.

Lucky for me I have large feet because these Onitsuka Tigers only come in men’s sizes. I wouldn’t normally go for shoes so bright but somehow these work. They’re £49.99 from Office and will look great with a pair of really dark indigo jeans to make the colour pop.
The colourful kicks are available in size 7 to 10 and boast at least ten colours that I can see, but I’m sure that there at least half a dozen more hidden away under the tongue somewhere.

I know we’re pretty hot for deck shoes at the moment but I didn’t mean these monstrosities. Something about the overlong vamp and safe brown really creeps me out. It’s like I’ve been flung into a fashion black hole and spat out somewhere in Clapham or Putney.
If you’re going to give deck shoes a punt (LOL! …Sorry) make sure they are navy or an acid bright and check that the vamp is a bit shorter than Henry Conway’s parliamentary expenses.

Grey and neon is a pretty good colour combination, I like the way grey geeks up the neon a bit to remove the nu-rave connotations.
There’s even more of a contrast going on here with these shoes from Office (£34.99) as the neon clashes nicely with the old man stylings going on. I love it, it’s like pops from down the road got happy with a highlighter after a few too many G+Ts.

The best thing about metallic silver trainers is that, despite being metallic silver, they don’t look OTT. Quite a feat.
However, if you point some very bright lighting at it, it will look very, very shiny – which is why these Nanny State’s look quite so shiny. In person, they’re just the right shade.

A wise man once said, ‘you can never have enough Converse all stars’. Clearly he was wrong, but you could always do with adding some metallic colours to your shoe wardrobe. Getting a pair of Converse in gold or silver should set you on the right path.
I know what you’re thinking. They look too span-dangly. Don’t worry, they’re actually quite understated for a metallic gold trainer. Well, they as understated as a pair of gold trainers can be, you’ll still stand out from pretty much everyone with these on your feet. But that’s a good thing.

Huggy Bear, Snoop Dogg, Andre 3000; no matter how old you are, there has always been that outrageously cool, pimped-out personality. In the latest issue of L’Uomo Vogue, Snoop Dogg gets kitted out in clothes fit for a street legend.
Purple velvet suits, golf-check trousers and the obligatory afro complete the look but despite its eccentric ingredients can, if styled correctly, make up an approaching trend that can be woven into your wardrobe. Take some wide-leg trousers, a pair of brogues, a patterned jumper and a bold shirt as a starting point. Accessorise with elaborate ties, belts and a fabric-blend bowler bag for a strong look, see after the jump for image and product details.
NOTE: using words that you imagine to be street lingo (you know the ones) will in no way add to this look.

Office have got a sale on, and you’ll be able to snap up some bargains like these lovely Oxford brogues, reduced to £45 from £110. The leather tab/lace detail is an amusing remider of those horrible chunky metal boots which have a hole in the heel through which you thread your lace. One you’ve finished being amused by the tab detail, you can be enthralled by the swirling brogue punch leather, reminiscent of the Mr Men.

Footwear, Top Five

Smart trainers are a great staple, perfect for smartening up casualwear and making suits look less stuffy, so I’ve picked five that will easily take you from work to the weekend. Starting with the Onitsuka Tiger (pictured), the bright orange adds a flash of interest and will give a high tec look to a grey suit. The Adidas Samba is a classic, and this reworked version is stylishly unobtrusive. Two Converse shoes, the first is features an eye-pleasing combo of cream and stony beige, and the second is the classic all black Mono. Lastly, the Puma 5000m is more of a standout shoe but will look great with dark blue jeans or a brown suit or cords. See after the jump for full image and product links.

The rise of the cardigan has surely sounded the death knell for the blazer and jeans look. A few years ago a blazer looked edgy but it’s now only worn by sloaney types, especially with distressed and ripped bootcut jeans, which surely are a confection of the devil. The cardigan offers a much leaner, modern silhouette; it’s a natural partner for skinny or slim jeans and can be dressed up with smart trousers and a slim tie. Simon Amstell does this look perfectly, teaming a dark cardie with a
floral shirt, or choosing various tones of khaki and olive green for an
eye-pleasing cardigan, tie and shirt combo. I’ve come up with two cardigan outfits so if you are one of the few people who haven’t purchased a cardigan there won’t be any excuse not to. See after the jump for images and product links.

These Firetrap shoes are a gem. Just the other day I was out with my boyfriend and he wondered out loud why all lace-ups have to have clownlike extended toes. I personally think it’s an awful look, especially when teamed with an Estate Agent suit. Then we spotted these shoes, with a toe as round and smooth as a pebble. The leather looks like it will improve as it becomes aged and battered and you can buy the shoe in a grey-brown (right) or more of a conker (left) shade. They’re available for £69.99 from Office, so buck the trend for clown feet and get yourself a pair.

I’m in love with these Lacoste ‘René’ pumps from Office (£49.99), I’ve been saying ‘Oh René’ over and over again in my head in the style of Allo’ Allo’. You can’t beat them for retro simplicity, they will look great with some grey slacks and a polo shirt for a relaxed summer look. Taking your style cues from René Lacoste himself, France’s tennis champion from the ’20s and ’30s is a much better idea than using say Wayne Rooney or Freddie Flintoff for your sartorial inspiration.
