At a disco the other night, the theme was ‘City vs. Country’ and stuck for ideas, a friend and I decided to go as tacky tourists. Cue vintage novelty braces, high-waisted denim shorts and charity shop shirts.
My charity shop bum-bag has been the focus of much attention. While it was only a joke item, a few friends have since been talking about it and I wonder if it could be worked into an actual outfit.
Outside of an outrageously-themed disco, I think I will wear the accessory when I go to India in March with cartoon-print Harem trousers, white plimsolls, a plain white vest and vintage sunglasses (at right.) Practical and high-fashion!
Yay or Nay?

Lastnightsparty.com is ex musician turned socialite photographer Merlin Bronques photo-blog documenting New York’s hottest parties and people. His victims are always well dressed, usually drunk and sometimes topless and as a result the collection of photos provide a snap shot of fashion in motion… whatever that means. The images are far more accessible than that of fashion photography and give insight into the trends currently being peddled across the pond in NYC- a far more useful tool than any forecast.
This “in the moment” kind of photography suits well to show off trends and styles more than it does clothing -which at times is totally unidentifiable- and needless to say it primarily serves to pamper the ego’s of those being photographed but personally I find it hard to take a trend seriously until I’ve seen someone I consider “real” sporting it. The site has been praised and slated in equal measure and you have to totally forgo your feelings on the vapid nature of the photographs and the photographed before you can use the site as an excellent source of voyeuristic research, though be warned if you look at it for too long you do get scenester blindness where everyone looks like the same generic guy or girl but persevere, it’s well worth it.
Lastnightsparty is also available in a slightly too small to be coffee table sized and slightly too vacuous to be of any use book!
Jump through for my selects of the best lastnightsparty images and outfits!

Eley Kishimoto‘s LFW parties are always a relaxed affair; so forget any fashion snootiness because last night’s bash was a friendly, vibrant do with masses of well dressed people.
On the 31st floor of Centrepoint on Tottenham Court Road we sipped cocktails and looked at all the great outfits but the London skyline view was a serious, but welcome distraction! Among the well-dressed people were Japanese journalist and Brandish fave Yu Masui, who wowed in a typically flamboyant pair of sequinned trousers and jump through to see the other stylish men who turned up.

Nicola Formichetti, the fashion extraordinaire and creative director of Dazed & Confused, writes an awesome blog which he manages to update almost three times a week. With pictures from his various trips, nights out, karaoke parties and Tokyo fashion-fests, the blog is a treasure trove of great images and this is no different. The pic was only put up yesterday morning and it shows some of Nicola’s friends posing on a night out in London. I love the leopard-print beanie of the fashionisto on the left and the fur collar of the guy on the right looks like a necessary luxury for the altogether depressing Baltic temperatures we have been feeling in recent times.
Go to Nicola’s blog for more pictures of his glamourous life!

Men.Style is great for tongue-in-cheek features and their ‘Ultimate Party Guide’ is not only perfectly-timed but a great read and (just to add some sense of validity to this post,) a good laugh. The feature aims to make you “a legendary host” and the site has got a few of America’s most refined movers ‘n’ shakers on-board to add their two pence to the Christmas-party-nightmare cup.
If you are planning to throw a party and you’re hoping it lives up to the obviously high-expectations of those who actually enjoy Christmas (which I’m sure is all Brandish readers!) then you have to read the full run-down of the guide after the jump!

It was seemingly awkward stares all round at the US GQ Men of the Year party in LA recently. Russell Brand sported the faraway be-sunglassed look of someone who has just been scorned and check out Adam Brody‘s weird fake smile. My personal winners on the night were Thom Browne, sporting his trademark short cut, and although I’ve never heard of him before I applaud young Anton Yelchin‘s choice of outfit, the hat is inspired and gives him a slightly creepy air of authority.
Funniest prize has to go to Prick of the Year, which was won by Gordon Ramsay, ha! James Franco who appeared on the cover of Vogue Hommes and Man About Town this year was voted Screen Idol proving his worth as current sartorial mancrush. See after the jump for more of the winners.

Mark Ronson has always been a tiptop fashion star and this year has been awash with his sartorial influence. From the stripes and Mod look of early 2008 to the sharp tailoring in kooky fabrics. From the ’50s rock-star (read: Elvis) to the fur-clad aristo-geek.
Now, Ronson is taking it upon himself to lead the way with the trapper-hat wearer, ‘Lightspeed Champion,’ look as first established by our (soon to depart-) Jason Dike. Mark looked great at Vivienne Westwood’s after-show party last night with his fur-lined coat, oversized glasses and slick boots.

The On|Off party was a truly special event with massages and mini-spa treatments galore, and limited edition goodie bags created by Natalie Thakur who is known for her leather homage to the plastic bag.
As if that wasn’t enough indie child prodigy Patrick Wolf played a storming set, but what I want to know is where has the red hair gone? Check out gallery to see what Matthew Williamson and Henry Conway were wearing.

Now this looks like my kind of party!
I feel like a horrible, disgusting sorry excuse for a fashion follower. Why am I bound by such emotional wounds? Why do I feel so sick-minded and wrong?
Answer: I want an invitation to Fake Karl’s closet. Yes, it’s true! I, Will Reid, couldn’t think of anything this week that could be desired more than a day of hanging upside down with Anna and Karl sipping our “respective drinks.”
And don’t even tell me you don’t want to too. There’s even a Yohji Yamamoto-shaped hole in the window!

PPQ hosted a moving out party last night at their Conduit Street headquarters which was attended by Jaime Winstone, Ben Grimes and Peaches Geldof. Designers Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker themed the event as a “trash the carpet” party which was bound to encourage some rambunctiousness. Henry Holland turned up with a new darker hairdo and sporting a pair of lowkey denim cutoffs. He livened the outfit up with a jacket in what’s become his trademark vivid purple. Across town Jefferson Hack was djing at the Dazed and Confused with a summery looking Alice Dellal.

A while ago, we remarked on how a Telegraph feature on the short suit had used rather unusual models to create an unflattering portrayal of the look.
However, this picture (taken at the launch of Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme in Milan,) shows that even the fashionistos of the industry can’t get it right. While also not the most model-ly of men, Bruce Pask of the New York Times would be one of those I thought could pull of this challenging look.
My verdict? I think this would look better with cropped sleeves. Simply roll up your long sleeves to the elbow or at least take them off the cuff as this contrast of short/sleeve length is usually an unflattering one.
Try shoes that can be worn without socks; a cool loafer or Topman canvas brogue. I, as a bit of a sartorial risk-taker (read: hit/miss dresser,) would add a pair of House of Holland velvet loafers in shocking purple or pink.
Now if only Lapo Elkann would give it a try!

Jermaine Dupri showed his love for MJ at a recent Island Def Jam Party, by wearing a t-shirt with Jacobs’ recent Interview Magazine cover. Other ‘slebs at the showbiz party included Nas and Kelis.
The bash was to celebrate the launch of TAG Records (as in TAG Body Spray), which is a seemingly bizarre venture combining the the Proctor & Gamble-owned company’s marketing power with Dupri’s experience.
