Paul Smith launches range of David Bowie T-shirts

Ashley Style, Style Safari, T-shirts, Polos & Shirts Leave a Comment

David Bowie is obviously thinking about his pension. He not only has a new album out next week – and it is rather good apparently – he has also teamed up with iconic Brit designer Paul Smith to launch a range of T-shirts. With all due respect to Mr Smith this hardly looks like his most challenging projects, The shirts, …

It is now getting cold- seriously cold. Not just an odd breeze ruffling your hair, but full on Arctic howlers accompanied by temperatures that are dipping well below freezing. And let’s be honest that flat cap that  has served you well through the autumn – even if it does make you look like an extra from Billy Liar – won’t …

It will very shortly be the party season and chances are you will be soon be an inebriated state confessing all to Tim in accounts about your cunning plan to later trap Susanna from sales with a sprig of mistletoe. Psychedelic shorts: the next step for short trousers

cchapman Trends, Underwear & Swimwear Leave a Comment

Unis_shorts.jpg

Shorts have definitely become the fashion story of the summer, a trend that kicked off last year but is still gathering momentum. At MACHO CITY last night bare calves were definitely the norm, with pleated chino shorts and cut off denims (worn by the likes of Henry Holland) vying for top spot. In the on-going search for the wildest shorts of the summer, pattern and colour have stepped into the fray. In New York, where a steamy summer is to be expected, Debonair reports that the psychedelic Batik-print shorts by Nolita store Unis are stealing the limelight. Cut high on the thigh and light enough to be worn as swimming shorts, I can see them working here too allowing for an easy transition from lido to London Fields picnicking. For an Anglo take on the trend, seek out wild prints from Liberty, Paul Smith florals or run up a pair in toile de jouy! Eyes and minds will boggle.

Get the look: Sea of Shoes’ slouchy Japanese androgyne

Perhaps best know for making us all sick with her seemingly inexhaustible spending power and ability to travel the world at will, teen blogger Sea of Shoes occasionally turns up a stunning male fashion image on her way. I love this image of the young Japanese hipster, something about the worn insouciance of his outfit which looks designer but is probably a collection of vintage/well loved items. Of course, his girly frame might not be what one can aspire to/or desire but the mix of slouchy, slightly faded jersey and killer boots is one that could translate well into something more rugged.

Put the flags out: printed swimming shorts

printed-swimshorts.jpg

Swimming trunks are often a cause for anxiety, fashions come and go as rapidly as elsewhere, leaving you rocking a baggy Speedo look whilst everyone else is in sleek mid-length shorts. Swim shorts are generally the more practical option, allowing you to step from pool to poolside bar with ease. These swim short designs by Paul Smith make a bold statement through print whilst keeping the shape flattering. Floral surf shorts are definitely having a revival, especially, as here, where the quality print suggests Hawaii’s heyday. Pair with perfectly tone-matched Havaianas (still acceptable for the beach) and a witty tote for Rio-class beach cool.

A Waste of Money or An Investment Piece? Dr. Martens 1461 Shoe

Will Reid Brand Spotlight, Footwear, Top Five 2 Comments

drmartens1.jpg

Last week I was in search for a pair of school shoes. Beginning with classic brogues, I sampled a pair of black loafers and sneakily tried on a pair of Paul Smith Jermyns (with glorious plum laces) before ending up with a pair of not-so-exciting pointed Topman lace-ups. Inspired by this bout of school-shoe shopping I ventured onto Oki-Ni and came across their Doc Martens. Floral. Striped. Coloured. Neon. But then I came across their 1461 shoe and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

A shoe, in simple black leather, that was more than double the price but half as nice as many of the shoes I had seen the previous day. These Dr. Martens did not look worth their £70 price tag, especially in comparison to my £35 Topman shoes. Granted, the Dr. Martens are probably better quality and might last longer but, are they even that easy on the eye? I, for one, wouldn’t want to be seen in them.

Fashion is fickle, even in times of economic recession. See after the jump for my Top 5 Best on a Budget Smart Shoes.

Outfit Pick: The Waistcoat Done Well?

Just last week, Brandish editor Isabelle asked the general fashion public if the waistcoat could ever be worn well. We were subjected to the torture of Boyzone (whose waistcoat crimes can also be seen here,) and then buttered up with stories of white waffle and petrol blue. Now, I’ve created an outfit out of an All Saints waistcoat and looked to Frank Sinatra for tailoring inspiration.

The last Mad Men style feature – hopefully

admin Entertainment, Heroes and Celebrities 5 Comments

mad-men-fashion-then-now.jpg

Mad Men has gone from a show known for substance to one known solely for its style. It’s a rare occasion when a show gets anointed like this and some writers got a little excited about it, even calling it the men’s Sex and the City (A ridiculous statement – everyone knows the man’s SATC is Entourage).

Zooey Deschanel, Agy Deyn, Irina Lazareanu, Vanessa Paradis; the fashion world is known for it’s adopting of a different muse for each different season. However, while most muses can be linked by their quirky style, elfin features and statement look, Wallace & Gromit really stand out from the crowd.

That hasn’t stopped Harvey Nichols from enlisting their modeling talent for their latest campaign and decked out in D&G shirts, Alexander McQueen suits, Paul Smith scarfs and Ray Ban Wafarers, I’m actually quite jealous!

paul smith tips stella magazine.jpg

Does anyone read Stella magazine? Of course not. In fact, when I said that I bet your mind immediately thought it was Stella Artois’s version of Acne Paper. For those that don’t know (i.e. everyone) Stella is a magazine tucked away inside the Sunday Telegraph, and they’ve featured a ’10 rules’ like article with Paul Smith.
