According to Drapers purple is set to make a lasting impression on menswear wardrobes this autumn but I’m not convinced. Steve Cochrane, managing director of independent department store
Psyche in Middlesbrough, said: "Purple is already a big colour and is
going to get bigger. Lilac is popular now, but it’s going to be full-on
purple for autumn." Shades from lavender to plum have proved pretty
popular with buyers but they’ve shied away from block colours opting
instead for stripes or checks.
There are lots of hot colours around at the moment, -brights like coral and sky blue and neutral shades of beige, grey and taupe are still looking fresh, but purple seems to be a bit of a faddy shade. Trend colours are always a bit hit and miss and can sometimes be a bit of an obvious fashion choice. Having said that Uniqlo have a merino wool cardigan on offer in a pretty subtle aubergine colour which I could go for. Are you a purple fan? Take our poll!
