Charlie Porter does the polka

Who did Hotel Aime snap recently? None other than Fantastic Man‘s new Deputy Editor Charlie Porter, proving he is at the absolute vanguard of fashion by wearing polka dots. Dots, spots and specks are replacing stripes as the menswear print du jour and not a minute too soon!
For a Porter-esque look get Paul Smith’s shirt (£123), it looks like polka dots but closer inspection shows they’re actually diamond shapes, which are going to be the new polka dots in a couple of years. Probably.

Polka dot, the plaid alternative

Plaid, tartan, check if you’ve paid any attention to the high street recently you’ll know the indie grunger lumberjack look is big news this autumn.

While I love a bit of check it’s definitely starting to feel a bit overexposed (this obviously excludes Burberry Jon!) so try polka dots, CDG used them in their collection for H&M and Henry Holland recently ditched the tartan for oversized dots for his latest catwalk show so you’ll be in good company.

Lad Musician A/W 08 highlights

By admin on September 12th, 2008

Lad Musician are clearly a brand willing to take some risks. For example, take their studded gloves (pictured above). Although it’s a look associated with people who wear new rock boots, it looks surprisingly wearable, although it would look better if it were just polka dots. The other risk is their inclusion of denim jackets.

These jackets are risky not because no-one is wearing. It’s risky because everything who is wears them horrifically, matching them to their denim jeans and looking like rejects from a Bruce Springsteen lookalike competition. I’m not about to call it a comeback, but denim jackets might just be a viable alternative for people looking to change it up from bombers and trench coats. Lad Musician is available from blackbird and the site’s webshop.

10 Deep polka dot cap

By admin on January 10th, 2008

10deepcap_2I love my 10 Deep cap. It’s one of those things which I have to have to speak sternly to myself about: ‘You can’t wear that again, people will think you have no other clothes’. Petulantly I put it back in the wardrobe and kick over my bedside lamp.
So I’m thinking I should invest in another. I really like the shape – the five piece design is better for my money than the ubiquitous New Era shape, which I feel makes me look like a mushroom.
But with 10Deep, it’s all about the prints. They’re just great and this little polka dot print is no exception. Commonwealth can fix you up.
