Brandish Pick of the Blogs

Pui-Tien Man writes…

This week, we’ve got men’s style covered from
head to toe… and, apparently, inside-out too. Paris has thrown up everything
from the sublime Ute Ploier’s ribcage-scarf (pictured, left) to Prada’s… interesting F/W
collection, featuring crop-tops and frilled miniskirts over shiny
skinnies
. Has the
androgynous trend really crossed the gender divide?

Slick suits reign supreme on the catwalks, but for the modern urbanite, A Suitable Wardrobe looks for more suitable solutions for smart

Refinery29 puts a Spring in their step with a roundup of
next season’s coolest new footwear, while Men’s Flair
belts up for a review of their favourite smart basic accessories.

But if the holiday
season has left you out of pocket, look to your own cupboard: Style Salvage has been doing some salvaging of his own in his wardrobe, and unearthed some
treasures. Dig deep!

Milan Fashion Week Catwalk Report: Prada

By admin on January 16th, 2008

Pradaaw08_2

I’m a little scared to criticise – only because Miuccia Prada is clearly a god-like,
visionary and I am but a mere mortal – but I’m not really sure what she was trying to achieve with the new Prada Autumn Winter collection which showed at Milan Fashion Week.
Stating that she wanted to create the look of flat surfaces, Miuccia sent her models down the catwalk in some very puzzling creations: shirts with two collars (the second one floating unattached round the neck like something forgotten); ra-ra skirts; and back-fastening shirts. Most puzzling were the large kidney warmers which most of the models had poking out of the top of their trousers and which look just horrible. Not sure what the significance of flat surfaces was – perhaps she’s been banging her head on a few.
Elsewhere, in more sensible territory the suits jackets swaddled the body with an extreme buttonless double breast, fabrics were shiny to the max and the shoes – oh the shoes! – the shoes were to die for.

Prada launches online store

By admin on January 3rd, 2008

Prada, as hintmag reports, have launched an online store. The store only sells Prada accessories, which are typically whimsical and well, expensive.
Witness these key chains. Mildly amusing for all of 5 minutes (max) but you’ll pay £70 for the privilege. Still, everyone will know that it’s Prada, which is something. Not 70 quid’s worth of something, but something.
To be fair, there’s some nice stuff. Their leather goods are particularly fine, especially the wallet and key holder which come in a cobalt blue and what Prada call bluette (which for me is a wasted opportunity to use the word ‘cerulean’).
Other treats include a tape measure and a set square and a dozen other kinds of nonsense. Check it out here.

Prada turban at Vogue Hommes

By Isabelle on March 27th, 2007

Voguehommes
The latest fashion shoot for Vogue Hommes International featured the ubiquitous Prada turban that everybody’s been trying out. Carine Roitfeld (love that woman) seems to have lucked out as the turban looks the best I’ve seen in her her shoot. I don’t expect legions of men to rush out, grappling with shower caps and granny plastic rain hoods in a desparate attempt to acheive this look but I like the guy’s look. In fact it’s an exact combination of Naboo from the Mighty Boosh, and Russell Brand! Click the thumbnail for a larger image.
