Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel at the Transformers Premiere

By admin on June 23rd, 2009

josh duhamel shia labeouf transformers premiere.jpg

While the whole world (ok, a bit of an exaggeration) is going crazy over Megan Fox over at Brandish our eyes are trained on the menfolk.

Josh Duhamel
and Shia LaBeouf both turned up to the Transformers première in grey suits; LaBeouf wins points for opting for a three-piece suit, while Duhamel’s jacket looks like its been moulded to his body. It’s a shame they didn’t go for some slightly more adventurous accessories, a colour block tie, pocket square or a pair of pastel suede shoes could have really livened things up. Do these guys not have stylists?!

Celeb Style: Ashton Kutcher at ‘Flawless’ Premiere

By Will Reid on December 2nd, 2008

ashton kutcher demi moore flawless film premiere.jpgAshton Kutcher is one of my low-key style icons. Firstly, he started out as a model and it was he who introduced the now infamous ‘trucker cap’ to the fashion scene. Rumours were rife of a fashion collaboration when he was spotted note-taking in the front rows of fashion weeks and now he has provided us with even more style inspiration.

At the premiere of Demi Moore’s new film, ‘Flawless,’ Ashton was a picture of muted luxury with his regal red tie, opulent tweed coat and not-too-flashy Louis Vuitton scarf. This is a look that anyone can copy this Winter!

Quantum of Solace première

The Quantum of Solace première last night was such a big affair even the Royal Family turned up, Princes Harry and William chatted to Chelsea pensioners as profits from the evening went to Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

Daniel Craig
sported a sling as he was still recovering from a shoulder operation. Both he and girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell scrubbed up well, him in a neat suit and her in a intricately beaded evening gown. Is it me or is his suit a dark navy? Either way the slim lapels and gently fitted cut looks great.
Bond baddie Mathieu Amalric went for an unusual choice of a double breasted suit without tie but he has more than enough Gallic chic to carry off the insouciant look.

Jump through to see who else got the fashion thumbs up.

Outfit Pick: Gauche, Awkward and Isaac…

By Will Reid on September 16th, 2008

outfitpick2.jpgWith a new of series of Heroes about to begin, the unfortunate death of Yves Saint Laurent and the number of Clark Kent-y characters about in the most recent blockbusters, my style radar is tuned to the male who’s gauche, awkward and geeky in the best way possible. Think of 1970s art students carrying open sketchbooks around Paris, Isaac Mendez of Heroes lounging around his studio in over-sized chinos and Marc Jacobs around his grunge era (which means big glasses, baggy jumpers and lots of corduroy.) I took a risk with mixing the denim shirt with dark jeans but the two items together are a wearable look that anyone can pull off.

Check out the product details after the jump and see how geeky you can get this winter- Argyle jumper anyone?

A Grunge Revival? Alan Cumming Seems To Think So!

By Will Reid on September 15th, 2008

rex_801664b.jpgRex Features describes the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys as an event to “recognise technical and other achievements for the 2007-08 TV season…widely considered to be a precursor to the main Emmys ceremony.”

In my world of tired soaps like Eastenders and Coronation St, this translates as an excuse for C-list stars to dress up in posh frocks a la the recent TV Soap Awards (or something along those lines) that occurred in Britain where everyone thought that Ashley Slanina-Davies from Hollyoaks was a style star because she actually had a YSL clutch (and, I admit it, she did look wonderfully 80s.)

Anyway, Alan Cumming decided to bring a different flavour to the LA-based awards and opted for grunge-hair and darker shades instead of the usual skinny-fit suit, Converse trainer and grey/black palette that we see from most of LA’s men.

Why So Serious DeNiro?- Oops, Wrong Film…

By Will Reid on September 11th, 2008

deniropacino2.jpgMy bad! I may have the wrong film but I doubt such a slip-up would result in a look that miserable from Robert DeNiro? Might it be that he’s fed up with films? Maybe he (okay, clearly he) couldn’t be bothered to make the effort to dress up but my bet is that it’s standing next to Al Pacino who, as well as being an arguably equal competitor on the greatest actor front, actually looks pretty good!

Read on for pictures including 50 Cent as well as info about this cult-to-be film.

Tropic Thunder facial hair special: because style doesn’t begin and end with your clothes

By Jonathan Smith on August 12th, 2008

rex_791721bq.jpg

Clothes wise it was slim pickings at the premier of Tropic Thunder, the new Ben Stiller vehicle in which Robert Downey Jr. blacks up. What? Yeah I know, you thought you had seen the last of that when the Black and White Minstrels was cancelled for being incredibly racist but then BAM! RDJ blind sides you and its 40 years ago all over again. But seriously the only really mention worthy outfit was Justin Theroux who came dressed as a Blues Brother, so instead I’m going to take you through the facial hair highs and lows of the event, because style doesn’t just begin and end with your clothes.

Jump through to see some fine male plumage.

Celeb Style: Emile Hirsch’s Casual Cool

By Will Reid on May 1st, 2008

Emile Hirsch seems to have perfected the laid-back but oh-so-stylish celebrity look. Whether on his Another Man cover or at an early morning press conference, Hirsch is usually seen open-collared with a smile and noticeable lack of “gay guy” fake-tan.

At the European Premiere of Speed Racer, Hirsch turned up in a brilliant pin-stripe suit (possibly navy inspired?) and a relaxed shirt. There was no fussy detail or shiny shoes but instead, Hirsch went without jewellery and wore his hair as if he was attending a Sunday Starbucks. I guess it’s a shame then that the whole look was rained upon- literally.

Russell’s Been Reading Brandish…

By Will Reid on April 17th, 2008

What can I say? We do try our best here on Brandish and every so often an iconic-well-dressed-mega-major-celeb pays attention. Russell Brand is one of my favourite modern personalities and his part in the new film “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” looks set to provide more embarrassingly-crude but absolutely hilarious viewing. Watch the trailer above and look out for Russell’s short-shorts beach/ Yoga look (mistaken my those not as dedicated to the shorts debate as simple sportswear!)

Matthew McConaughey at Fool’s Gold Premiere

By Will Reid on April 11th, 2008

foolsgold.JPG

Just last night, the city of London was buzzing with the excitement of celebrity; that of the glorious Kate Hudson and heavily scent-sponsored Matthew McConaughey. Now I’m not going to lie and pretend that Mr. McConaughey isn’t one of my favourite actors because well, even I don’t get that offended by sticking to the sartorial sidelines.

While Kate Hudson went all out in John Galliano, our male centre of attention decided to go for what I assume is a Dolce & Gabbana suit. I can’t fault the look itself- grey is in right now and the open-collar is a pleasing antidote to the stylised-Dandy of recent times. So full marks for style but what about effort? I can’t help feeling slightly miffed when someone with so much designer access neglects the right to riskier fashion.

But who am I to talk? I am sitting in my pyjamas at 1pm (Budapest time) with my just-recovered and now decidedly Hungarian laptop, moaning to myself about a lack of celebrity tailoring.
