Mad Men has gone from a show known for substance to one known solely for its style. It’s a rare occasion when a show gets anointed like this and some writers got a little excited about it, even calling it the men’s Sex and the City (A ridiculous statement – everyone knows the man’s SATC is Entourage).
First London Fashion Week, now Anna Wintour (pictured left, at the Sex and the City première) is causing ripples of excitment with the announcement that she will attend Milan Men’s Fashion Week.
Wintour will be attending the shows with Men’s Vogue editor Jay Fielden and the rest of the editorial team.
In the London paper today, they’ve stated that silvery grey is the colour of the season. I doubt it will be, due to grey shirts showing sweat more prominently than other colours but that’s not my main steak with this article. More problematic is the colour they’re teaming it up with – pink. Back when men started wearing pink, it was a statement of a softer side, the kind of man who cries watching Sex and the City before going back to chop some wood and crush a beer can on his forehead.
The latest issue of American Vogue features a lot of male celebrities (of the more mature, realistic and relatable variety) taking the place of over-ripped and bicep-bulging models. SATC’s Chris Noth and Sarah Jessica Parker dash around New York, avoiding paparazzi, lusting after each other in couture (and having it all captured by Annie Leibovitz.) Pierece Brosnan and Daria Werbowy run, spy and sail their way around San Francisco in a summer-inspired shoot by Mario Testino.
