What’s Hot: Ray Ban Wayfarers

By Isabelle on March 29th, 2007

Raybansunnies

Summers-a-coming so I’m going to be picking out key pieces for this season for you. Some may be slightly OTT but there’s nothing scary about Ray Ban Wayfarers. Anything that’s worn by Roy Orbison must be brilliant, apparently the legendary songwriter while on tour with the Beatles forgot his thick prescription specs and so put the prescription Wayfarers at the last minute where they remained for the rest of his career. Wayfarers are the trendiest sunnies around at the moment, and  will add a bit of retro chic to any simple summer outfit.

Women think men find size zero sexy

By Isabelle on March 29th, 2007

Newwoman
A survey conducted for New Woman magazine indicated that 58% women thought that men found size zero attractive. Without wanting to get into the whole "I like a bit of meat of my woman" debate, unless you’re 5 foot nothing size zero is gross. I’m quite surprised that women actually think that heterosexual males prefer their potential mates to be on the brink of starvation. I’m not going to kid myself, women define the parameters for female attractiveness so men rarely come into it but surely it’s kind of obvious to other women a man is going to prefer a woman who can hold an intelligent conversation without passing out from hunger? Pretty people make crap conversationalists anyway, they always wait for you to ask questions about their pretty, fabulous lives!

Bespoke suits on the web from A Suit That Fits

By Isabelle on March 28th, 2007

Asuitthatfits

It’s the future! So if you need a bespoke suit now you can buy it on the internet. A Suit That Fits offer a bespoke service online and will deliver the finished product within 6-8 weeks. I would advise spending the extra £20 it costs to go and have a fitting, as that’s what really makes it a bespoke suit and will make all the difference to the finished product. You can buy a suit from around £250 upwards, and even if you don’t have to wear suits at work it is a good idea to try to get a well cut suit for important occasions. After about two years of searching my tall rake of a boyfriend found a gem of a suit for £13 in a charity shop. So if you’ve got bags of time go for the charity shop option, but if you’ve three months give A Suit That Fits a go.

We like short shorts (L&P Kiwi ad)

By Isabelle on March 28th, 2007

The Aussie contingent at work were going wild over this video, it’s an advert for L&P who are "World famous in New Zealand". L&P, or Lemon and Paeroa is a refreshing carbonated lemon drink, drunk all over New Zealand. The advert shows the rise in popularity of ‘stubbies’ which I always thought was those small bottles of Victoria Bitter that Aussies drink but is in fact slang a particularly tiny type of men’s shorts. You don’t have to be an Aussie to find men in tiny shorts with their beer guts hanging out funny.

Yes No Maybe clothing

By Isabelle on March 27th, 2007

Yesnomaybe

I can’t look at any ‘Yes No Maybe’ clothing without thinking of the Malcolm in the Middle theme song but that’s me and my jingle obsessed brain. I usually hate smug slogan t-shirts but the ‘bukkake ruined my carpet’ one is actually quite funny. I think it’s the mundane mention of a carpet that stops it from being too ‘student wanker’. It’s a reasonable £25, but if you fancy something a bit more people friendly then their ‘doodles’ sweatshirt (£45) is the perfect thing to keep you occupied for an entire train ride home.

Majestic Shipton and Heneage stag slipper

By Isabelle on March 27th, 2007

Stagslipper_2

If you’re going to lounge around, do it in style. Shipton and Heneage make traditional shoes, including my most hated shoe: the deck shoe; but they also make some damn fine slippers. It’s probably a bit iffy to take style tips from Alan Partidge, but I’m sure he’d understand the benefits of lounging in a velvet slipper. Available in leopard print velvet, tartan, ostrich skin or embroidered with a skull and crossbones they really are the height of lounging. My favourite is the stag hand-embroidered slipper, shown here in green velvet; how supremely majestic. Definitely the way to show your housemates or partner who’s the alpha male of the house.

Prada turban at Vogue Hommes

By Isabelle on March 27th, 2007

Voguehommes
The latest fashion shoot for Vogue Hommes International featured the ubiquitous Prada turban that everybody’s been trying out. Carine Roitfeld (love that woman) seems to have lucked out as the turban looks the best I’ve seen in her her shoot. I don’t expect legions of men to rush out, grappling with shower caps and granny plastic rain hoods in a desparate attempt to acheive this look but I like the guy’s look. In fact it’s an exact combination of Naboo from the Mighty Boosh, and Russell Brand! Click the thumbnail for a larger image.

Andy Capp t-shirt from Urban Outfitters

By Isabelle on March 26th, 2007

Tshirt
Pledge your allegiance to the olden days, and all things British with Urban Outfitters’ Andy capp t-shirt. It comes in grey marl and black. Andy Capp been lazing, boozing and arguing since 1957, and since his creator Reg Whyte’s death in 1998 the strip has been lovingly kept going. For a truly authentic look you’ll need to accessorise the t-shirt with a fag, a pigeon and a pint of bitter. You can get the t-shirt for £25 which should leave enough change for a trip t’pub. See after the jump for the black version.

Gigposters for your wall

By Isabelle on March 26th, 2007

Posters1

If you’ve still got posters of Rocky, Star Wars, and Nirvana on your wall maybe it’s time to update your surroundings. Gig Posters have got hundreds of different bands posters so you’re guaranteed to find one you like. All the posters are print of high-quality screen and are so well designed you’ll never want to go back to your scruffy student posters. Simply type in the name of your favourite band and tale your pick from a selection of poster art, much better than those ‘art’ canvases you can buy from Ikea.

Collar stiffeners a-gogo

By Isabelle on March 22nd, 2007

Collar1
Collar stiffeners eh, who’d a thunk it? They’re used to stop collars curling and keep shirts looking sharp. Quality shirts usually come with a plastic insert that breaks after a few washes so I’ve done a round up of  the collar stiffeners on the market. Collar stiffeners almost come into the ‘Innovations Catalogue’ area of pointless inventions but not quite. My first pair are from bespoke jewellers Form and cost £35. Form also do cufflinks, weddings rings and a ‘Blingin Four Finger Ring’ that you really should stay away from. See after the jump for more collar stiffeners.

David Beckham strikes a pose for Adidas

By Isabelle on March 21st, 2007

Davidbeckham
Blaps! David Beckham’s new pictures for a campaign for Adidas makes him look like a wannabe gangster rapper, but more Vanilla Ice than Eminem. Don’t you think his leg looks really hairy? This is probably an attempt to rebrand him for the American market, ahead of his multi-million-dollar move to join ‘soccer’ team L.A. Galaxy this summer. Safe blud etc.

Lazy Oaf tourist tee

By Isabelle on March 20th, 2007

Lazyoaftee
Lazy oaf have got a heck of a lot of cool t-shirts. My favourite is their snap happy tee, kind of like a new version of the tux tee it makes you dressed for business in about 30 seconds. Perfect for wearing with lemon yellow shorts and old sneakers for a retro tourist look. They also have sweatshirts, socks, belts and the a card that says "I like you nearly as much as crisps".

Become a male model, or the object of ridicule

By Isabelle on March 20th, 2007

Boyss

Fancy being a model? The London Paper is running a competition to find a male model, you must send a head shot and full-length body shot to their email address. The competition closes at midnight tonight, so make your you get those pics ready in time. At Shiny Towers we loved the guy with his collar up, doesn’t he realise he looks like Prince William or some other boneheaded royal? Alas that is probably the point. We also like the Russell Brand-a-like, but our favourite by far was the Brian from Spaced-a-like who decided to pose with his gran! You can tell by some of the pictures that they’ve been sent in by well meaning girlfriends and joker friends, so go on, have a peek!

Aldo summer trainers

By Isabelle on March 20th, 2007

Aldotrainer

Aldo have been making waves in the womenswear world with their Chloe rip-off wedges, and their men’s stuff seems to be catching up. These trainers (£44.99) keep it simple without looking too boring and the halfway between grey and beige tones means they’ll look great with browns, navys or blacks. I can see these becoming summer favourites, so it’s a good thing they’re made from long-lasting leather.
