American Apparel, the brand synonymous with androgyny and men in skintight jeans, has just launched their Unisex Oxford Shirt. I have three sisters and I’m no stranger to borrowing the odd jumper (actually, that would be reclaiming,) and I have in past borrowed Ralph Lauren shirts and vintage blazers for a better fit and a slimmer silhouette. Russell Brand, a man who walks on to a talk-show in a jersey tunic dress and girl’s jeans from Topshop but still manages to be a sex god, would be a great example of unisex dressing at its best but what do you think? Is it worth the sartorial risk when you might see a girl in the same tee as you?
Would you go Unisex- vote in our poll after the jump!

Forgive me for I have no idea who the man in this photograph is. His name is Chad Rogers and I like his shirt.
I suppose if I was dressing him I would have teamed the jeans with a khaki/brown belt to go with the check, I’m almost suspicious that his belt is made from horror of horrors… Plastic. Back to the positives, a mustard tie makes the outfit and elevates the plaid shirt from your everyday check to something a little more special. See Alex James’ Ascot look for tie-spiration.

Email me at isabelle [at] shinymedia.com to tell me what a moron I am for not knowing who Chad Rogers is or just to say hello.
[Edited to add: I have just found out who Chad Rogers is. I'm sorry, I wont do it again.]

T-shirts, Polos & Shirts
By Jonathan Smith on September 17th, 2008

Be they around your wrists or your ankles this year it’s been all about the turn ups, which is why we can all thank American GQ for giving detailed instructions on how to do the perfect shirt sleeve turn ups in this September’s issue. The technique is as follows:
1- Flip your cuff back, then pull it up toward your elbow, allowing the sleeve below to turn inside out as you go. Stop when the cuff is just above your elbow.
2- Evenly roll the inside out shirting that is now below the cuff until it’s covering half the cuff, locking in the sleeve.
3- Leave the rest of the cuff out so that it subtly flies out of the roll.
4- Admire your new look in the mirror. Briefly. Now swagger out the door.

Wallace poses in a Paul Smith suit and Gromit sits with a Duchamp scarf and pair of Ray Ban ‘Wayfarers.’
Zooey Deschanel, Agy Deyn, Irina Lazareanu, Vanessa Paradis; the fashion world is known for it’s adopting of a different muse for each different season. However, while most muses can be linked by their quirky style, elfin features and statement look, Wallace & Gromit really stand out from the crowd.
That hasn’t stopped Harvey Nichols from enlisting their modeling talent for their latest campaign and decked out in D&G shirts, Alexander McQueen suits, Paul Smith scarfs and Ray Ban Wafarers, I’m actually quite jealous!
Read on for more details and pictures- it’s worth it, trust me!

It’s a good day for a plaid lover like myself, with trend reports claiming that the American working man is ready to have his time in the fashion lime light the new A/W 08 range from Levi’s has dropped at Oi Polloi.
I’ve been a fan of Levi’s Vintage denim for some time now but have always felt that the range as a whole has left a little to be desired, however this year the line up looks great with some of the usual suspect such as 501′s and 505′s and some awesome (you guessed it) plaid shirts.
So embrace your inner lumberjack and check out the full range after the jump.

Checks have been on the fashion radar for a while but now they seem to have snowballed and there’ll be no escaping the trend this autumn.
This Shades of Greige check shirt ticks the all check boxes and the grey and white combo is slightly more interesting than your indie uniform of trad plaid.
The lumberjack look is going to be big this winter but subtler pieces like this shirt will see you through the dying days of summer in style. It’s reduced to $59 at Penelope’s and will look great teamed with other soft neutrals.

With most brands turning into lifestyle brands, you’ll have to provide a little extra to stand out from the crowd. Cold Method are doing just that with their ’9 aesthetics’ capsule collection. The Dutch label state that you need 9 essentials for every season, starting with a t-shirt, denim, shirt, trousers, knitwear, suit, coat and an accessory. Check out the collection at their website.

At the Arcadia Christmas press day yesterday I was reminded that flannel/check/plaid is going to be huge this autumn, both Burton and Topman had lumberjack-style shirts in their collections.
As much as we’ve been plugging madras on Brandish maybe it’s time to take a checkbreak for a month or two so you don’t get too bored of the trend.
Printed and patterned shirts look cool in the summer and the vintage Ono Hawaiian shirt from Rusty Zipper will see you into the cooler months teamed with a sharp blazer. the faded print is eyecatching without being too gaudy and will look great teamed with black or grey suit trousers or for a more casual look a pair of bright straight-leg jeans.

Combining manly checks with a feminine pink tuxedo ruffle is obviously a recipe for success for Cosmic Wonder whose Wood shirt is sold out in every size but large.
If you fit a large then you’re doubly in luck as the shirt is reduced from £235 to £117.50 at b Store. Team it with the simplest grey trousers and cardigan for a quirky work outfit or with jeans for a Brokeback Mountain pastiche.

One of the few pictures from the Sartorialist’s London visit has surfaced and it’s a wonderful piece of British nostalgia. The tasselled loafers look great with the mustard top and oxblood bag, like the commenters I’m not so sure about the fit of the jeans but I think we can let him off!

For those of you who haven’t watched Amy Winehouse’s performance at Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday, she does this thing where she pulls on her skirt while she sings. She looks to me a victim of ‘Summer Spirit.’
You know what I mean- when all you want to wear are your swimshorts and the thought of a buttoned up shirt and trousers makes you itch. Don’t worry Amy, I have found the answer to this shared problem and it comes in the form of Dries Van Noten’s transparent shirt. Seen in his current SS09 show, this shirt is striped and looks to be made of a silk-like material. It looks cool (in both the urban dictionary and weather sense) and with that white collar and contrast-stripe collar and cuff detail, is a perfect summer piece.

Eton shirts are celebrating their 80th birthday in style, the Swedish company have commissioned an ultra-special shirt which is excessive even by Elton John standards. The world’s most expensive shirt is valued at £23,000 and features the finest Egyptian cotton yarn. The studs and cufflinks are diamond encrusted, the studs have coloured diamonds and the cufflinks have the plain old normal diamonds, yawn!
The fancy shirt is touring the world passing through some of Eton’s stores including Milan, LA and Stockholm and will be auctioned off for charity next year.
