Spot the Difference: Nike revamp the Air Max

By admin on July 8th, 2009

nike air max maxim reissue.jpg

On the left, you have the original Air Max 1 which dates back from 1987 and on the right, the revamped Air Maxim.

Tinker Hatfield, the original Air Max designer entrusted Jesse Leyve with the revamp who said: “We took the original Air Max 1 design brief and ran it through a present-day filter” It’s amazing how something over 20 years old looks as fresh as it did back in 1987, but we’re currently torn between the old version and the new one.

The Nike reissue is hitting their pop-up store in August and the Maxim will be released nationwide in the next few weeks.

hypebeast: Stan Smith interview

By Jonathan Smith on March 19th, 2009

adidas-stan-smith-interview-1.jpg

Hypebeast has posted an interview with Stan Smith, the face to one of the most popular tennis shoes of all times. The interview (by Eugene Kan) gives a little insight into Stan’s own background and how he broke into the world of professional tennis, as well as how the game has changed over the past 40 years. Smith also talks about his minimal involvement in the development of the Adidas trainer that has taken his name and his own surprise that the shoe has been in production for almost 40 years without hiatus. Oh and I mustn’t forget about the curious tale of why the shoe bares a moustache-less visage of Stan, that’s a real corker! (It’s not)

The interview will be of interest to any sneaker or tennis fanatic and if you’re a tennis sneaker fanatic then this will BLOW-YOUR-MIND so take a peek here.

Liberty & Nike collaboration out on Valentine’s day

By admin on February 10th, 2009

Another item which is made for women but who gives fig when they look as good as this? The Liberty X Nike collab hits the Liberty store when else but this February 14th for a limited time, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.

They have a plain blue pair named Nina, and an orange pair named Phoebe, but the nicest by far are the Patchwork Dunk, a mix showcasing the best of Liberty print. If you should be lucky enough to be slight of foot head down to Liberty and snap up a pair, at £70 for the plain and £85 for the patchwork they’re fairly reasonable and will go wonderfully with the new season pastel pieces making the rounds for Spring/Summer.

These have been on Kanye’s site for a while but if you haven’t seen them here are the deck shoe/trainer/spaceship hybrid here they are in all there hyperbolic glory. Now personally they’re not my cup of tea but I think they capture the personality of ol’ Westwing perfectly. Let me know what you think after the jump.

Nike “iD Sample” AM90

By Jonathan Smith on October 27th, 2008

nike-air-max-90-premium-id-sample-1.jpg

As a rule I generally want my trainers as obnoxious as possible, bright colours, glow in the dark, even their own lighting system wouldn’t go a-miss, but these all grey AM90‘s are the bloody business. Dubbed as the “iD Sample” Air Max due to them having a more than striking resemblance to the sample trainers found in Nike iD studios, these kicks are proving once more that less is definitely more.

Being grey they will go with anything, a claim that is rarely claimed of the Nike Air Max family and one I valiantly stand by. T-shirts, polo’s, shirts, cardigans, tweed, plaid, gingham, denim, canvas, cord, you name it and it’ll fit with these grey wonders, perhaps I have to draw the line at a double breasted suit but still who knows- take a risk!

Available now from Wellgosh for £88.99.

Asics and Solebox team up to produce Sportstyle trainer

By admin on October 17th, 2008

It seems like Asics are going mad for UV at the moment, their vintage offshoot Onitsuka Tiger released the glowing Electric Tiger Land and now in conjunction with cult Berlin shop Solebox they have released the UV reactive Sportstyle trainer.
Treated with a special photochromatic ink the stripes change from silver to purple in the light. Why purple? Well it’s Solebox’s trademark colour and I think it’s nicely different for a men’s shoe. After the initial Solebox launch in August 350 pairs of the shoes went on sale at the end of September at Ryouki in Norwich, Hanon-Shop in Oxford, and Limited Editions in Aberdeen.

Onitsuka Tiger’s Electric Tiger Land trainer glows in the dark

By admin on October 6th, 2008

Onitsuka Tiger’s Electric Tiger Land shoe launched last week in a limited edition across the country.

The shoe has a Japanese cityscape design which comes alive thanks to embroidery detailing and UV-reactive printing. Available in black and white from Size?, Offspring and Foot Asylum and in red from Onitsuka Tiger’s Newburgh street shop they retail at £80. The Electric black, pictured above glows under UV light to reveal a night-time Tokyo skyline; all I want to know is where are the masses and masses of electrical cable which punctuate a typical Japanese skyline?!

Vibe Magazine’s celebratory boot

By Jonathan Smith on September 15th, 2008

vibe-magazine-20-adidas-forum-high-1.jpg

This year Vibe Magazine turns 15 and to commemorate this mile stone birthday the magazine, with the help of Adidas, has knocked up this limited edition Forum Hi. The sneaker has a subtle colourway but is high on detail with the use of ostrich and snake skin and patterned laces and stripes, also it is limited to only 1500 pairs- so I suggest you get your rear into gear and reach for that credit card now. However if you feel that 1500 pairs is a bit too common for you then there is a single super special signed pair of the Forums that will go to the highest bidder, for more info check it out on the Vibe website.

The Vibe Forum Hi is available from today at any Adidas Originals store and at shopadidas.com.

Silver hi-tops from b Store

By admin on August 27th, 2008

mascaleros silver trainer b store.jpgFormal shoes have eclipsed trainers in the style stakes for a good while now but sometimes you just want to cocoon yourself in comfort.

b Store‘s Mascaleros silver hi-tops are comfy and plain enough to pass everyday muster while the silver finish adds a bit of a stylistic flourish. They’re reduced to £74.50 on the site and will make even the most simple combination of jeans and t-shirt look flash.

Nike Waffle Racer vintage-style trainers

By admin on July 31st, 2008

nike waffle racer vintage.jpgOld-school trainers are the best, I’m personally partial to dad’s favourite the Hi-Tec Squash but these Nike Waffle Racers are pretty close to the real thing.

They’re especially made to look exactly like their thirty year old predecessors even down to the aged laces (which I have on good authority aren’t all that as they look a little yellow and odd). So get yourself a pair of new laces and head down to Size? where they’re £50.

Onitsuka Tiger ultimate 81 trainers

By admin on June 18th, 2008

onitsuka tiger trainer ultimate 81.jpg
Lucky for me I have large feet because these Onitsuka Tigers only come in men’s sizes. I wouldn’t normally go for shoes so bright but somehow these work. They’re £49.99 from Office and will look great with a pair of really dark indigo jeans to make the colour pop.

The colourful kicks are available in size 7 to 10 and boast at least ten colours that I can see, but I’m sure that there at least half a dozen more hidden away under the tongue somewhere.

Cassette Playa x Nike Blazer Hi

By admin on May 19th, 2008

cassettenike.jpg

Despite being branded a Nu-rave label, Cassette Playa have outgrown that fad and seem to only be getting stronger. With a collaboration with Uniqlo under their belt, they’re now teaming up with Nike to design a pair of Blazer Hi’s.

Made from patent leather, the colourway is certainly unique. I doubt many will have outfits to match, but that’s hardly the point with these limited edition trainers. The various colours on these trainers – ranging from apricot to purple – make these hard to work into an outfit, but I’d like to see anyone who could pull it off. They’re due out this summer and would be available in all your usual Sneakerfreaky places.

Nike Considered Terra CI

By admin on May 9th, 2008

nike terra ci sneaker considered.jpg
Nike have released a new model of their Considered range of trainers, the Terra CI which they call an earth-friendly adventure must-have. Never mind that when I go on an adventure the first thing I bring with me is some booze these trainers have got a certain lego-like appeal. Kinda Balenciaga at a stretch?

They’re made from recycled mesh and a mysterious material called Phylon but the best/worst thing about them depending on your opinion is the shoelace fastened sole which makes them look like a Michel Gondry creation.
