Lacoste Rene plimsolls in Offspring

By admin on April 24th, 2008

lacosterene.jpgFor some reason the majority of my footwear posts center around bright, garish colourways, and this one isn’t any different.

I was in Offspring this afternoon and noticed Lacoste had released their S/S08 ‘Rene’ plimsoll range. Complementing the colourful troop of models that went down the runway in Lacoste’s 75th anniversary celebrating spring/summer show last year, there are enough shades (purple, blue, orange, black, yellow green and probably more) to complement anything in your wardrobe.

The Rene is a classic heritage tennis shoe, but at £50, a trip to Brick Lane for a pair of plims at a tenth of the price and a bottle of Dylon might be a more enticing prospect.

So, you’ve decided to go nautical this season – good choice. Most of the pieces are pretty timeless on their own and together it’s a look that won’t be copied by many, allowing you some individuality. The absolute best thing about the nautical look is that you’re spoilt for choice from the waist down. Finding the perfect top to finish off your look can be a quite a challenge but John Smedley aim to make the task easier with this Polo

The only way this top could be any more nautical is if it came with a sailor’s cap and keys to a boat. And at £122 you could say that it ought to come with these extras as standard. If the price doesn’t put you off, then you can get it from the official John Smedley website.

Is it just me or are we seeing a crossover of trends between the worlds of guy and girl’s fashion?

An example are the India-inspired outfits at Armani Privé Spring/Summer
2007 that found their way into Rei Kawakubo’s menswear collection for
Autumn/Winter via style icon Andrew Logan (as pointed out by Brandish’s
own Tim Hunter). For this season, we saw velvet shirts at Dries Van
Noten not unlike those at Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2008 and the
flowers on lapels at the Lanvin Menswear show could be seen as an
incredibly subtle interpretation of last season’s (female) trend for
floral prints.

Designer Spotlight

Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2008

By admin on July 2nd, 2007

The Menswear catwalk season is in
full swing with shows over the weekend in Paris from Louis Vuitton, Hermes and
Yves Saint Laurent under the direction of Italian designer Stefano Pilati.

Pilati has been creating a YSL pret-a-porter
line for a few seasons and has had great success with womenswear but has
slightly struggled with menswear. It’s inevitable that taking on such an
enormous task as taking over a world-renowned brand such as Yves Saint Laurent is
going to be difficult. Over recent years there have been plenty of examples as
world famous designers either retire or pass away, including Coco Chanel and
Christian Dior whose respective collections have been continued and modernised.
