Topman has launched their Spring Utility collection, which offers a modern take on causal work wear.
The collection as it name suggest, draws upon utility styling and heritage influences to modernize classic shapes such as the mac, chino and shirt. The colour pallet is composed of rich tones of tobacco, burgundy and khaki, which gives the pieces a sophisticated feel. I love all the little details of this collection such as the geo-print smart scarf, which really dresses up an otherwise causal look. Check out some of my favourite pieces from the collection below.

Alexander McQueen‘s menswear collections get more and more interesting by the season. This latest show was a clear departure in mood from his last show, ‘The Queensberry Rules’.
There was still a menacing undercurrent, with vibes of tortured artist coming through, but the overall atmosphere was that of a more feminine creativity. McQueen’s traditional rustic tailoring the look reminded me of some of the Italian workmen that the Sartorialist sometimes snaps.
Onto the gushing, the patchwork shirt and jacket are utterly gorgeous, and regardless of being a woman I want! Similarly the paint effect items moves the digital print trend forwards and the paint-spattered pieces deserve to become a fully-fledged DIY blogger trend.
Best worn: When (pretending) to paint the front room of your Milan apartment.

You can rely on Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver to deliver a great collection and they did. This collection for Lanvin was typically elegant affair, with the très chic suits and kimono-style jackets. Irreverent touches like trousers and suits made from tie silk reinforce Elbaz’s gentle sense of humour and sandals worn with socks gave a geeky twist to the look.

Ville, snapped by the Hel Looks team, has a stylish, easygoing look we love. A pair of skinny jeans and white hi-tops make up quite a basic outfit, but the addition of a pastel knit scarf gives the ensemble a feminine slant and is perfect for spring.
The grey trench adds to the delicate feel and the slouchy shape contrasts nicely with the slim silhouette.

Spring/Summer stock is starting to roll in to BBlessing‘s online store. Known for stocking hot US brands like Patrick Ervell, Adam Kimmel and Rag and Bone, BBlessing’s own line is definitely worth checking out. Attention to detail is always spot on and the quality of the garments needs to be experienced to really appreciate their unique take on streetwear meets formality.
The latest BBlessing collection inspired (with typical obscurity) by ‘the mythology surrounding the legend of plane-hijacker DB Cooper’ comes in a rich colour palette of blues, greens, washed greys and tans, more tangibly ‘inspired by the textures and tones of the Pacific Northwest’.
Stand-out pieces include the selvedge denim jacket – made formal by being lined – and these beautiful, pleated linen shorts.
The physical store with it’s crack-pipe chandeliers and American Gothic aesthetic is a must-see stop-off if you really want to experience the excitement of the menswear scene in New York. Right in the heart of the hipster-centric Lower East Side it doesn’t get any better, though their website offers a great taster and a good shopping experience in itself.

The latest issue of VMAN was released a few days ago and it has two, bright covers. Models Jake Madden and CJ Hancock pose in fab suits from designers Calvin Klein and Givenchy and the covers are brilliantly fresh- perfect for the economic moan-athon we are currently suffering!
CJ and Jake are the joint winners of the VMAN and Ford Model Search and from these debut covers it looks like they will go far.

Topman’s Spring Break collection is about to hit the stores and it’s a poetically downbeat affair. Set against a backdrop of blustery coastline and caravans there’s more than a touch of ’80s era Morrissey going on here.
The clothes are retro, but not excessively so, modern cuts and and neat tailoring give an up to the minute feel.

Another inspiring gallery of new season clothing, this time from uber chic French label A.P.C. The made news recently with their Nike collaboration on the All Court tennis shoe and I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots more of the label thanks to our mutual love for all things madras.
Smart trenchcoats, soft velvet sweatshirts and sharp tailored suits make for an easygoing but stylish collection. The muted palette will coordinate easily with your wardrobe, and A.P.C quality means they’ll become a treasured favourite.

Although it might not seem like it right now, spring is on its way. Take a leap into next season’s trends by clicking through the summer collection by stellar H&M offshoot COS.
The collection is made up of up-to-the-minute pieces in a palette of soft shades with COS’ characteristic timeless touch. Standout items include a grey jersey blazer which will be as comfy as it is smart, and carrot leg, the new shape for men’s trousers, following on from the womenswear trend.

Given the snowy conditions out there you might not be thinking about your spring wardrobe just yet, but fashion waits for no man and what better distraction from the ensuing chaos than some internet shopping? ASOS are fully stocked for summer, with some great options in chambray and seersucker. This dark chambray, unstructured blazer (similar to the Acne/Lanvin collaboration) is a great staple. Seersucker has been building popularity over the last few summers and a pair of slim-fitting pants with that charming fine stripe is a great use of the fabric. The denim barrel bag is a snip at less than £10. Finally this short-sleeved chambray shirt with polo-type collar and the desert boots in lovely soft tones are both steals.
ASOS are promoting this look through a themed video called Bistroteque – a name many Londoners would associate with Hackney’s trendy bistro/drag cabaret venue rather than ‘Riviera chic’ but it certainly sets the tone.

Raf Simons is back once again with mod father Fred Perry to bring their SS09 collab. Moving away from the monotone of previous seasons these power houses of style are moving into the exciting unknown with a vibrant colour palette taking it’s inspiration from West African culture.
The range consists of 25 pieces some of which are reworkings of Fred Perry classics such as the polo shirt augmented with new weaves and knits. New comers to the line include slipon, tassle loafers in both navy blue and burnt red and a slim fit harrington jacket in regal blue.

T-shirts, Polos & Shirts
By Colin Chapman on January 7th, 2009

Lots of shiny new season wear has arrived at Oki-Ni. Looking particularly fresh are Jil Sander‘s collection and new arrivals from Folk. The Raf Simons-designed Jil Sander SS09 collection takes inspiration from German brand Jil Sander’s 60s heritage with lots of sharp graphics – like this ‘Metamorphosys’ t-shirt, left – and some lovely accessories (more on those later). Folk are also looking very spruce with lots of soft pastels and a certain winsomeness. How much of the latter is down to their clean-cut house model – who to my mind is becoming something of an It-boy – I’m not sure, but its certainly refreshing to have a new outlook on Spring in these jaded, frosty days.

If like me you’re bored, bored, bored of winter and want Spring right NOW then a bit of fashion forward investigation might just perk you up.
I mentioned soft tailoring and pleated shorts in my piece on the Acne/Lanvin collaboration the other day but what else does S/S 09 hold in store for us?

Designer Spotlight, Jeans & Trousers, Trends

Acne Jeans have just launched a collaborative denim collection with Lanvin. Check out their lovely Flash pop-up lookbook to see an (oh so welcome!) glimpse of Spring 2009. Soft denim blazers, pleated shorts, these shapes will inevitably be replicated by the high street come summer. Lanvin, under the eye of designer Alber Elbaz, has become one of the most directional brands in menswear in recent years. Not to mention Elbaz’s kitting out Tilda Swinton for red-carpet affairs.
Always cutting edge in terms of shape and finish, the Lanvin label has a genuine polish that (almost) justifies the eye watering prices. Acne Jeans meanwhile are a personal fave: their jeans are impeccably made, and you can guarantee that the very latest cut will be on offer, if at a cost. Their pleated Gentleman’s Jeans earlier this year (also a collaboration: with Fantastic Man magazine) had Charlie Porter in a dither and calling for the end of the skinny jean.
Escape the holiday hell and take a peak at what we’ll be wearing next Spring.

Designer Spotlight, T-shirts, Polos & Shirts
By Will Reid on April 13th, 2008
Julie Verhoeven, the artist and fashion-collaboration extraordinaire has designed a set of t-shirts with her illustrations of animals and other strange creatures. Vogue UK reports that Verhoeven’s fun and frivolous tees are in-store now for both guys and girls at £50 each. Verhoeven relays that “the artwork for the T-shirts came about by wanting a little bit of loopyness for springtime and letting loose the Mulberry menagerie of daft animals.” I couldn’t agree more- as seen in previous posts, I am also feeling the pressure of season transition and these are a designer-label colour boost. Wear them with jeans for day or with thin cardigans in berry tones and the Uniqlo chinos for a low-key evening look. Verhoeven’s previous collection for Mulberry, a collection of quilted bags covered with her illustrations, were a disappointment for many but these look fresh and colourful enough to top many a Spring wishlist.
In stores now, £50 each, Pig, Bunny and Cat (left) motifs
