Arsenal update: Jovetic news, Serge Aurier wants to be a Gooner

By Stefano on June 28th, 2013

After dominating Arsenal transfer news for months things have gone a little quiet around Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic lately. At one point its seemed as if Arsenal and Juve would be battling for the player’s signature, but now it seems that Arsenal are pursuing Higuain while Juve have landed Tevez.

But there still remains the possibility that Wenger might sign two strikers this month especially considering the ongoing gossip around the club’s pursuit of Wayne Rooney.

If Arsenal are back in for Jovetic though they might find some new opposition. The Star is suggesting that Real Madrid are making a move for the player who is apparently coveted by both Arsenal and Chelsea.

It says

New Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen on landing Jovetic, who is valued at around £20m.

I guess the issue for Ancelotti is whether he can land his supposed number one target Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

If Ancelotti does sign either of the players he will most likely have spent £50 million in a week (after grabbing Isco for £30 milion). I bet some Arsenal fans wish that their manager was as decisive in the transfer market.

Meanwhile Serge Aurier, the 20 year old right back currently playing for Toulouse, has given the club a huge come and get me plea. The player was seen wearing an Arsenal shirt on holiday which he then posted to Facebook and Twitter. Maybe he knows something that the rest of us don’t…

Higuain and Jovetic set to snub Arsenal. So why can’t they sign a striker?

By Stefano on June 12th, 2013

I think most Arsenal fans have by now given up on the possibility of the club securing Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic, but the Gonzalo Higuain saga has rumbled on and it seemed as if the club was in a good place to tempt the Real Madrid striker to come to the Premiership.

But if today’s Metro is to be believed it sounds like Arsenal have been mugged by the Old Lady – twice!

Arsenal are set to lose out on another striker to Juventus, with the Italian side closing on an instalment-based deal for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain.

According to Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport, Madrid are to allow Juve to pay for the striker in three or four instalments following a meeting between the two clubs.

The paper also says that almost everything is in place apart from the transfer fee. In what might give Arsenal fans a sliver of hope Madrid want €30m, but Juve have so far only offered €22m.

So what next for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal then? I wonder if it might be back to Premiership and that double raid on Swansea to land both Ashley Williams and Michu?

And I wonder how Gunners fans will feel? Both players are high quality with a proven track record in the Premiership. But are they the marquee signings that were promised by Ivan Gazidis?

I do wonder if Arsenal’s laid back approach (or dithering in the transfer market if you are being cruel) has cost them. It seems crazy that Juve will now have three world class strikers on their books, yet Arsenal are struggling to sign one. Maybe it is a reflection of how far the club’s stock has fallen in recent years that they can’t land quality signings.

Or maybe is is all about cold, hard cash. Juve is offering the players better deals and even with that huge chunk of cash in the bank, Arsenal don’t seem to want to match what the Italians are offering.

Arsenal update: Jovetic’s Chelsea link, Capoue, Mitrovic

By Stefano on June 5th, 2013

There’s no sign that Arsene Wenger has made his mind up yet as to who is going to be his marquee striker singing this summer. Rooney and Higuain are still in contention and it might be a long shot but Lewandowski hasn’t yet put pen to paper for Bayern. Then there’s the wild card of Michu.

The one player that Wenger seems to have cooled on a little is Stevan Jovetic and according to a lot of sources this morning Arsenal’s failure to sort out a deal for the Fiorentina striker has let some old foes in.

Chelsea, who in the past few years have nabbed Arsenal targets Hazard, Mata and Cahill, are apparently mulling over a move for the talented Montenegrin.

Jovetic has said that he wants to move on and so far Arsenal and Juventus have been the front runners. This morning though The Times says this about José Mourinho’s tranfer plans.

The newly appointed Chelsea manager has told the board that he wants to make the Montenegro striker his first signing after returning for his second spell at the club and talks have opened with Fiorentina over a £23 million transfer.

I get the feeling that this one is going to go on all summer long.

Another long running saga is the future of Etienne Capoue. The 24 year old French midfielder has also signaled his intent to move on from Tolouse. The player, who is away on international duty, said to L’Equipe.

‘If he (Casanova the Toulouse coach ) wants to keep me, that is good,’

‘That says that he counts on me, that he is happy with me.

‘But it is football. I feel it is the moment to leave, to play in big competitions.’

The player is also being tracked by Arsenal’s rivals Spurs too.

Finally Arsenal are looking to land another talented European youngster, HITC has details on Sky Italia’s reporting that Arsenal are in pole position to sign Aleksandr Mitrovic from Partizan Belgrade.

The 18 year old featured in the Serbian 2012/13 Team of the Season and he scored 15 goals last season.

Here’s what he is capable of.

Arsenal have already apparently signed Yaya Sanogo and Dan Crowley this summer. So for all the noises about buying experienced players Arsene Wenger still seems very keen on adding young players to his squad.

Arsenal update: Michu a new target? Higuain making positive noises

By Stefano on June 4th, 2013

If I had a quid for every time I heard a Gunners fan suggesting that lanky Spanish goal merchant Michu would look good leading the Arsenal line I’d be a rich man.

But does Arsene agree? Well The Mail seems to think he might. The paper is running with a story this morning that Wenger might not just be hoping to raid Swansea for centre back Ashley Williams but Michu too.

The paper says

But Sportsmail can reveal a shock move for Swansea’s prolific striker has been discussed by Wenger and his scouting team.

Well Michu scored 22 goals last season, which coincidentally is around the same number that Theo Walcott bagged, but you get the feeling that with his clinical finishing he would have scored a lot more had he been given stronger service.

Michu isn’t of course the only option. The Mail also reports that the club are mulling over moves for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko too.

Meanwhile some interesting new quotes have emerged from Spain that are attributed to Madrid’s want away striker Gonzalo Higuain,

The player confirmed this weekend that he wants to leave Madrid, but we only got half the quote in the UK media and interestingly some of the rest of what he says refers to Arsenal.

Higuain said

“I am leaving Real Madrid, the decision has been made, I feel the time is right and I want a change of scenery. I have not decided where I will go, but the club already know that I want to go. It was my decision. I feel that this is the end of my cycle here.

“I shall choose the next team on the basis of sports projects. Arsenal? They might suit me. I’m still young, I have goals and I will do everything to achieve them. Juve? They are many possibilities. I want to go where I can seriously be put to the test. There are offers and I hope that I hope that they [Madrid] do the best for me and for themselves. Besides I was bought for 15 million and now I will be sold for a figure considerably higher.”

Wenger has been a fan of Higuain for several years, the striker boasts some very impressive stats – 122 goals in 266 games for Real Madrid – he seems a better fit than say Jovetic, especially if Arsenal re-sign Fabregas. I guess much depends on how keen the player is to try his luck in Italy.

Are Chelsea about to gazump Arsenal again?Jovetic on his way to the Bridge?

By Stefano on May 29th, 2013

Over the last few years Chelsea have been Arsenal’s nemesis in the transfer market. The Gunners have often made a move for a player only to be gazumped by the Blues who come in offering more money and better wages.

It happened with Cahill and Mata and then last season with Hazard. So is it about to happen again this time round with Arsenal’s supposed umber one target Stevan Jovetic.

I must admit I thought Arsenal were playing a risky game with the Montenegrin. By not coughing up the cash they opened the door for Juve who also seemed to have beaten the Gunners to Higuain too. The club are clearly hanging on making the assumption that Fiorentina won’t sell to Juve and that Arsenal will end up being the only club in for the player and will get a cheap deal.

But if the Express is to be believed

Jose Mourinho will sign his new £12m a year four-year contract with Chelsea on Monday, and wants to challenge the club’s London rivals for Jovetic.

With Falcao off to Monaco and Cavani probably heading for City Jovetic could be the hottest young striker that has not yet been picked up by money bags clubs.

Chelsea never seem to have a problem meeting club’s financial expectations for a player unlike Arsenal whose determination to secure a bargain seems to mean a very paralysis at times in the transfer market.

There are still lots of great players who the Gunners could buy – Bony, Benteke and even Rooney to name a few – but it seems once again that Arsenal are just not competing for Europe’s elite players.

So where do you think Jovetic will be playing next season? Arsenal, Chelsea, Juve or even Fionrentina?

Arsenal update: Benteke wants to be a Gunner, but Higuain fancies an old lady

By Stefano on May 24th, 2013

There’s good news and bad news on the striker front for Arsenal fans this morning.

The really bad news is that it seems unlikely that Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain will be and Arsenal player as according to a newspaper in Italy he is heading for Juventus.

La Repubblica suggests that the marksman had already agreed to join Juventus on a four year deal. The only potential stumbling block is the price with Madrid wanting £25 million and Juve obviously not wanting pay anything like that.

The only sliver of hope for Arsenal, fans is that Juve are also supposed to be on the verge of nabbing Stevan Jovetic too. And they have already lined up Athletic Bilbao’s Spanish forward Fernando Llorente on a free transfer. So do the team need a trio of new world class strikers?

One goal score with plenty of Premiership experience has given the club a bit of come and get plea.

Christian Benteke told the Express yesterday…

“I hope that if I leave my club a deal can be done more quickly than the one last year,” he said.

“There is no point in me getting into a tug-of-war with Villa, and I don’t think there is any need for one. If the chance comes up for me to join a club like Arsenal, I am convinced that we can reach a compromise where everybody comes out a winner.

The paper says that £20 million would be enough to scoop the Belgian marksman, but that Atletico Madrid are also keen on the player too.

Jovetic speaks – but dodges questions about Arsenal and Juventus

By Stefano on May 23rd, 2013

Stevan Jovetic might be one of the most wanted strikers in Europe, but he insists that he is not spending too much time dwelling on any potential move from his current club Fiorentina.

The Arsenal, Juventus, and possibly even Chelsea target is away with his national team Montenegro and says that a big money move is the furthest thing from his mind.

“Every day the media has me moving to a new club,” he told pobjeda.me, which has also been quoted by Football Italia.

“Honestly, the only thing that concerns me at the moment is the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. Rumours do not affect me. It was a good season for Fiorentina, and also for me personally. I am just sorry we couldn’t get into the Champions League.”

So this one looks like it has a few weeks to run. Hopefully for both Arsenal and Juve fans there will be resolution as soon as the internationals are over.

Jovetic to Arsenal not happening says agent

By Stefano on May 23rd, 2013

Stevan Jovetic’s agent seems to have poured some very cold water on the prospect of the player moving to North London. In an update that has just been reported by the Metro Fali Ramadani says his client is not interested in moving to the Emirates.

‘Stevan prefers to stay in Italy rather than move away,’ said Ramadani.

The 23 year old had previously been very keen on a move to the Premeihsuip, so it seems odd that he has changed his mind.

The news will alert Juventus who have been chasing the player, yet seem to prefer Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain (another player linked with Arsenal).

So how seriously should we take this pronouncement? Well the Jovetic to Arsenal transfer is a saga of Illyiad style proportions and probably hasn’t run its course yet.

If Juve do sign Higuain then expect the Montenegrin to be waxing lyrical about his love of Islington restaurants.

I wonder if the agenct is mischief making too as it seems that neither club will match his valuation of the player.

This one is set to run and run.

Are Arsenal playing hard ball with the Stevan Jovetic transfer

By Stefano on May 22nd, 2013

So, what is going on with the Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal transfer.

This we know that Jovetic’s agent was in London today apparently talking to Arsenal. There are also rumours that Arsenal have tabled a bid.

There’s plenty of evidence that Jovetic will be leaving Fiotentina, but also that he still might end up Juventus.

But as the dust settles after yesterday it appears that the sticking point is over his valuation.

The Telegraph has a bit of an update. It quotes Andrea Della-Valle, the Fiorentina president as saying there was “little chance” that Jovetic would stay in Florence and, although there is also interest from Juventus, there would be a preference to sell to a club outside of Italy.

But the paper also hints that the £25 million asking price also has them looking at Real Madrid’s Higuain and Bemnzema.

I wonder if Arsenal are playing hard ball with Fiorentina. They obviously want the player and initial discussions appear to have taken place. By telling the Italian club that they are looking at other options it will put pressure on Fiorentina to lower the price.

It seems that Arsenal are in pole position as the club don’t want to sell to Juve and that Jovetic wants to leave.

I still think that this transfer is imminent, but Arsenal feel in such a strong position they can argue over a few million.

Let’s hope this one doesn’t come back to haunt Wenger.

Here we go – Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal deal imminent says Metro

By Stefano on May 21st, 2013

Ok, so yesterday I predicted that Arsenal would announce a singing. Oops. I may be a day or so behind because it appears that the move of Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina is imminent.

The Metro says that Jovetic’s agent is reportedly in London negotiating a £24.5million deal.

Jovetic’s agent, Fali Ramadani, is thrashing out terms with Arsenal in London after an offer was lodged, according to Italian media group Mediaset, and will report back to the 23-year-old with the Gunners’ proposal.

Fiorentina’s failure to make CL football – along with Arsenal’s qualification – as well as the club’s reluctance to sell Jovetic to their rivals Juventus seems to make this a done deal.

Jovetic is apparently keen to move to London, Wenger is clearly a fan, so now it all seem to down to the price.

Arsenal fans have ten days left before season ticket renewals finish and I would be astounded if there wasn’t one major signature before then, almost certainly this week. It happened last year with Podolski signed, sealed and delivered before the renewals deadline. Bet it happens again!

The big question for Arsenal fans though is that will Jovetic’s signature mean that the Gunners don’t go after other names that the club have been linked with like Higuain and maybe even Rooney.

Who do you want to sign for the Gunners? Vote here.

Arsenal update: Higuain bid, but is he the striker you want?

By Stefano on May 21st, 2013

There have been whispers for a few weeks now that Arsenal are about to launch a bid for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain. Now even the broadsheet papers are getting in on the story with the Telegraph claiming that the player has emerged as the Gunners’ number one target and that a bid of £19 million has been lined up.

According to the paper Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is going to move swiftly so he has a settled team ready for the Champions League qualification games in August.

Higuain would be a real quality addition to the the Arsenal squad and he has a very good record scoring 120 goals and providing 45 assists in 264 games for Madrid.

However the paper also says that Wenger is mulling over three other targets; Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic, Wayne Rooney and another Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

Looking at that list I think Higuain seems the most likely, but maybe Jovetic will be coming too.

So which one would you prefer?

Arsenal update: Jovetic, Lewandowski, Remy and Yilmaz

By Stefano on May 7th, 2013

There’s loads of Arsenal-related transfer gossip this morning – not a lot of it, it had to be said, of any substance.

The most interesting is from Goal.com which claims that Arsenal aren’t just after one marquee striker signing, but two. The site says that Arsenal are in advanced talks with Fiorentina to sign Stevan Jovetic but are also mulling over a move for Robert Lewandowski and Edin Dzeko.

Joevtic seems to be a done deal, especially now it appears that Juventus have cooled their interest in the Montengerin. The big question mark this year has been his form as he only has 12 goals to his name

Goal says

Fiorentina’s public stance is that they value Jovetic between £25-£30m but Arsenal are confident of agreeing a fee for less than £20m.

The Gunners are likely to start the bidding at around the £17m mark soon after the Premier League transfer window opens on May 20.

Arsenal have apparently been in contact with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund’s in-demand spearhead Lewandowski and are also keeping close tabs on Manchester City striker Dzeko.

I think it highly unlikely that Lewandowski will be Emirates-bound this year and as for Dzeko, I think he might be favourite to replace the Pole at Dortmund.

Much more likely to land is QPR’s Loic Remy, who has scored five times in eleven appearances for Rangers this season. A number of sources are continuing with the story and a fee is expected to be of around £6 million. If Arsenal don’t qualify for the Champions League he might end up being the only option.

Finally The Express suggests that the Gunners are also looking at Galatasaray’s Turkish star Burak Yilmaz. The player, who has been in riveting form this season, will apparently cost Arsenal around £15 million.

Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal – ‘expect developments’ says agent

By Stefano on April 24th, 2013

Good news for Gunners fans.

Speaking to website ilsussidiario.net agent Peppino Tirri has sounded an optimistic note that the Fiorentina player could soon be London-bound.

Using a spot of Google translation he said

“I read the news this morning in the newspapers . In fact it is a deal that might have practical implications. Expect developments ”

I am not entirely sure what the news this morning was – though I guess it might be this which claims the player is going to sign for £24 million and take £100k a week in wages – but I like the ‘expect developments’ bit.

I wonder if the Jovetic deal might be the carrot that the board announces to quell any anger if Arsenal lose to United on Sunday. Just a thought.

Stevan Jovetic urged to join Man City not Arsenal

By Stefano on March 28th, 2013

Arsenal’s number one target, Stevan Jovetic, has been advised by one of his Fiorentina team mates to head to the Premiership.

But The Sun reports that defender Stefan Savic thinks that the 23 year old should join his old club Man City rather than Arsenal.

And this in spite of the fact that Savic had a difficult time at The Etihad where he failed to secure a first team place.

Savic, said “Jovetic is one of my closest friends and I would recommend City to him.

“They are a rising team, one of the best clubs in Europe. They will win trophies and be in the Champions League every year.”

“It was hard for me there because I came straight from the Serbian league. I won a league title but knew I had to play regularly to improve, so I left — it was my decision.

“It is different for Stevan. He has five years’ experience and could play straight away with Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.”

Jovetic is one of a number of big name strikers that City are pursuing. The club has also been linked with Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao.

Galatasaray to offer £12 million for Arsenal’s Gervinho. Time to cash in?

By Stefano on March 27th, 2013

This one should be taken with a pinch of salt, but if true…

According to website webaslan.com, which has been picked up by The Express, Turkish side Galatasaray are ready to offer £12m for Arsenal misfit Gervinho. That is over a £1 million more than Arsenal paid for him back in 2011.

At Galatasaray Gervinho would team up with Ivorians Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Eboue. Maybe the team’s management think that the player could replicate his excellent international form if surrounded by his fellow countrymen.

So should Arsene Wenger cash in? Gervinho has never really set The Emirates alight and besides wouldn’t that money be useful in the hunt for Stevan Jovetic, David Villa etc?
