Men.Style- ‘The Ultimate Party Guide’ by The Upgrader

By Will Reid on December 8th, 2008

brandish.jpgMen.Style is great for tongue-in-cheek features and their ‘Ultimate Party Guide’ is not only perfectly-timed but a great read and (just to add some sense of validity to this post,) a good laugh. The feature aims to make you “a legendary host” and the site has got a few of America’s most refined movers ‘n’ shakers on-board to add their two pence to the Christmas-party-nightmare cup.

If you are planning to throw a party and you’re hoping it lives up to the obviously high-expectations of those who actually enjoy Christmas (which I’m sure is all Brandish readers!) then you have to read the full run-down of the guide after the jump!

I’m Still Not Convinced- The Short Suit

By Will Reid on July 3rd, 2008

shortsuit.jpgA while ago, we remarked on how a Telegraph feature on the short suit had used rather unusual models to create an unflattering portrayal of the look.

However, this picture (taken at the launch of Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme in Milan,) shows that even the fashionistos of the industry can’t get it right. While also not the most model-ly of men, Bruce Pask of the New York Times would be one of those I thought could pull of this challenging look.

My verdict? I think this would look better with cropped sleeves. Simply roll up your long sleeves to the elbow or at least take them off the cuff as this contrast of short/sleeve length is usually an unflattering one.

Try shoes that can be worn without socks; a cool loafer or Topman canvas brogue. I, as a bit of a sartorial risk-taker (read: hit/miss dresser,) would add a pair of House of Holland velvet loafers in shocking purple or pink.

Now if only Lapo Elkann would give it a try!

Thom Browne Runs…In Thom Browne Cardies!

By Will Reid on April 28th, 2008

Thom Browne’s signature look of shrunken suit, sports socks and loafers has cemented him as a style icon for both sexes and his shows have even inspired my own trend reports. Now, Style.com has talked to him about his exercise regime (although running daily on tracks including Central Park, the Eiffel Tower and the Imperial Gardens of Japan are a luxury rather inaccessible to us hoi polloi.) But I really must warn you that the vid may leave you feeling slightly inferior- after all how many of us can claim to have completed 15 marathons worldwide and still be running in Thom Browne knitwear?

Nicole Richie, Pharell and err…Mike Tyson attend the Bathing Ape Store Opening in L.A

By Will Reid on April 28th, 2008

bape.jpg

While Richard reported only two weeks ago of Tokyo’s willingness to queue for Bape goods, the label managed a slightly more A-list attendance for their LA store opening. Forget members of the public and imagine more the likes of Mike Tyson, Nicole Richie and Japanese fashion-darling artist Takashi Murakami. There was no M&S mob or Primark-passionates but only those able to afford the “diamond-encrusted A Bathing Ape Casio watch customized by Jacob the Jeweler” (*cough cough* Pharrell.) The store opened on Wednesday night in West Hollywood and looks set to only expand the brand beloved of fashion-followers everywhere.
