Eco Chic or Recycling Freak? Coke Can Tux

By Will Reid on April 8th, 2009

coke-can-1.jpgWhen you see a photo of a teen wearing a prom tuxedo jacket fashioned entirely from Coke cans, you have to wonder what the teen in question does with their free time. This guy, a Napoleon Dynamite-lookalike with a penchant for commercialism, has decided to venture into eco-friendly fashion and after the jump you can witness the entire creation of the waistcoat and jacket (plus bowtie!) from metal to masterpiece. Sadly, this look is more Sideshow Bob than Stella McCartney.

Albert Hammond Jr. wants us all to look sharp

By admin on August 29th, 2008

albert2_1219745327_crop_550x430.jpg

Now that the Strokes seem to be on indefinite hiatus, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has decided to turn his hand to suits. Working together with stylist Ilaria Urbinati, the suits will be available from autumn at Urbanati’s LA based store.

In other Hammond news, there was an interesting article on dressing sharp in The Quietus. In it he states that smart is the new casual, his distaste for underdressed CEO’s (Steve Jobs, I’m looking at you) and how he was the most fashionable in the Strokes.

men.style.com suit you up

By Jonathan Smith on August 27th, 2008

00001fff.jpgIf you are in need of something a little smarter and a lot more expensive than the Topman suit you bought for your court appearance then there is a guide to the coolest cool suits of A/W 08 over at men.style.com with this seasons theme being broad shoulders and wide legs, are we venturing back into the realm of shoulder pads? Sweet lord let us hope not.

I’m a massive advocate of the slimmer cut suit so this is perhaps not the guide for me but I’d say if you’ve got the money then these are a safe bet. Check the full selection out here and jump through to see my 3 favorites.

Celeb Style: Wallace & Gromit in Harvey Nichols Adverts!

By Will Reid on August 25th, 2008

wallaceand gromit.jpg

Wallace poses in a Paul Smith suit and Gromit sits with a Duchamp scarf and pair of Ray Ban ‘Wayfarers.’

Zooey Deschanel, Agy Deyn, Irina Lazareanu, Vanessa Paradis; the fashion world is known for it’s adopting of a different muse for each different season. However, while most muses can be linked by their quirky style, elfin features and statement look, Wallace & Gromit really stand out from the crowd.

That hasn’t stopped Harvey Nichols from enlisting their modeling talent for their latest campaign and decked out in D&G shirts, Alexander McQueen suits, Paul Smith scarfs and Ray Ban Wafarers, I’m actually quite jealous!

Read on for more details and pictures- it’s worth it, trust me!

WISHLIST: Alexander McQueen Photo-Print Blazer Down To £258 from £865!

By Will Reid on August 22nd, 2008

Thumbnail image for mcqueen.jpgWhile potentially worrying and probably not at all a good sign, Andy Warhol’s ‘Death Scenes’ have always interested me. His principle was that by repeating the same image of a man impaled on a lamp-post (that’s just one of the prints,) death became strangely banal. This blazer might not be all blood ‘n’ guts (which with McQueen’s history is rather surprising,) but it is undeniably interesting. With city scenes and a fitted shape, this jacket could be worn at work, in the park, at a party and even to a music festival. I like that Matches put it with jeans for a modern edge and if I could afford the £258 price tag, I would go for a crisp white shirt and an Alber Elbaz-style floppy bow-tie. In faded, purple velvet. *Sigh*

‘Suit Yourself’: VMAN 11 Preview

By Will Reid on July 23rd, 2008

VMAN has just released a preview of their next issue (VMAN 11) and by the looks of this preview editorial, ‘Suit Yourself,’ it is going to be incredible. Reflecting V Magazine’s ‘The Women’ editorial, which took rich photography and a classic country manor to project an image of high-society living, this editorial tells a nostalgic story of traditional tailoring with almost grainy photography used to stunning effects.

The photographic wizard at hand is none other than David Sherry and the story is styled by Jay Massacret. VMAN introduces the editorial with “this year’s fall suits combine elegant fine tailoring, clean lines, and a whiff of smoky nostalgia.” A perfect introduction to a perfect editorial.

See after the jump for the entire editorial with product listings.

Váronique Nichanian’s ten rules of fashion

By admin on April 21st, 2008

VÁRONIQUE NICHANIAN.jpgRules, rules, rules. Who needs them? Apparently men into fashion clearly do, otherwise men.style.com wouldn’t have monthly features on the ten rules of fashion. This month is Váronique Nichanian’s turn and the Hermes menswear designer chimes in with her ten rules of fashion.

Frock Horror Revisited- Paul Smith does Heather Mills

By Will Reid on March 28th, 2008

heather mills macartney paul smith waistcoat.jpg
Last week, as news was released of the Macca divorce settlement, my brother Doug (as well as the lovely Kim over at Catwalk Queen) brought my attention to the criminal costume of Miss Mills.

Was it Westwood? McQueen? The (ex-) McCartney herself? Well no dear brother, it appears that her suit may have been Paul Smith. I was sifting through the menswear Paul Smith PS collection and came across this waistcoat from the legendary Brit. Basking in the sunlight of indie styling and candid-style photography, this waistcoat is a perfect example of menswear doing it better.

‘Man Alive’- Style Magazine, Sunday 16 March

By Will Reid on March 19th, 2008

Style When I opened Sunday Times Style’s latest male issue, I came upon a great editorial called ‘Man Alive.’ It focuses on shoes and suits but the contents are elevated by Lucy Ewing’s styling and Paul Bliss’ photography.

Among an issue containing Kate Moss semi-naked on a beach and Clive Owen in semi-shadow, it is testament to its brilliance that the editorial made the front cover of the magazine. Particular highlights included the ginger model leaping excitedly in the air. Clothing ranges from Giorgio Armani to Miu Miu and the models have been picked to represent different types of people.

You Would If You Could… Bright Suits

By Will Reid on February 27th, 2008

Markronson2_2There are endless trends and endless items you can wear to copy them. However, some looks are just out there to be seen.

You know what I’m talking about- the type of outfit that you might be let off wearing if the road was a catwalk and we were extras from Madonna’s ‘Vogue,’ throwing shapes at helpless passers-by.  This post is out there to give those looks an airing (we might just tone it down a bit!) Let’s look at the bright suit which is a current favourite among paparazzi-prone men.

Suited and Booted at the Critics’ Choice Awards

By admin on January 9th, 2008

Meninsuits

Who needs the Golden Globes? Monday night saw the Critics’ Choice Awards which went ahead despite the writers’ strike. The boys were out in force and in style in their Sunday/ Monday best. What can we learn from the well-dressed?
Clooney as usual looked dapper. The Clooney brand is built on a well-groomed indifference and you’ll never see him in anything other than the classic tux, as befits a man his age. If the tie had been narrower and the waistband lower, he would have looked trendier and he would have looked like he gave a damn. Brad Pitt, takes a few more risks and his three piece tweed suit was more on trend with the slim cut trousers, sharp cut shoulders and er… three pieces. See after the jump for a picture of Hairspray’s Elijah Kelly with Amanda Bynes.

Russell Crowe kits out footie players in Armani

By Isabelle on March 15th, 2007

Rabitohs
Russell Crowe’s Australian rugby team "The South Sydney Rabbitohs" will now travel to matches in Armani tailor-made suits designed to "pick up on the team’s rich history." The gruff Australian has tried to update the team’s image by making games more family friendly, and hopes these new new suits will make the players feel like the business. He said: "there can be no better way to arrive for matches than standing tall and feeling confident because of Giorgio Armani’s magic". The team debut their new suits on the 16th. Armani said: "Russell Crowe does not call often and when he does, it is usually about something very important. For me sportsmen are
like modern day gladiators and because they have to show real
dedication and skill they are an inspiration for all of us.
