Italian menswear label Brioni has agreed to renew their sponsorship of the Menswear fashion Design course at London’s Royal College of Art.
Students will spend a week at the Brioni tailoring school in the Abruzzo region of Italy, learning first-hand the intricacies of tailoring. Brioni’s master tailor will work in the UK alongside tutors helping to decide the curriculum and sharing his tailoring expertise.
Famous Brioni fans have included Cary Grant (pictured above), Clark Gable and up until a couple of years ago, James Bond.

Jack Wills is a label synonymous with public school brats and pink polo-shirts with faux-Rugby Club logos. However, beneath what appears to be a rather empty and shallow brand image, every now and then Jack Wills releases a couple of items that can be put together to form fashion-friendly looks. I, myself, have a skinny scarf that is a perfect blend of stripey knit and dove grey silk- it never fails to improve an otherwise boring look.
In time for the Christmas period, the high-street chain has released their ‘Classic British Tailoring’ collection featuring gems such as the Lewington Tails and Oakington jacket.

Gianni Agnelli is a man constantly sourced as style inspiration to fashionistos across the world. From his flair for fine tailoring to his edgy take on accessories, this man had a look that was extremely well-executed and so timeless that it is still being copied on the catwalks of today. Agnelli’s grandson, Lapo Elkann, continues to wear all of Agnelli’s bespoke suits and it is no coincidence that Elkann has, in recent years, been hailed as a modern style icon by the likes of US Vogue and Esquire.
The article is full of great style advice such as, “if you want to dress like an iconoclast, your first step is to dismiss all of the old rules of fashion — just like Gianni Agnelli did when he wore his wristwatch over his sleeve cuff.”

Tavi, the girl-wonder-blogger with a fashion sense so incredibly brilliant I feel like crying when I ‘m reading her blog, has found this picture and decided that she wants to marry the wearer of this great, gold jacket.
I’m okay with just being his friend but it is an undoubtedly fantastic image.
Now, the only question is where to find that jacket.

Andre Benjamin (also known as Andre 3000) is taking part in the latest ‘Declare Yourself’ campaign which urges American youths to cast their vote as to who should be the next President of their country. Christina Aguilera and Jessica Alba also star in the campaign but it’s Andre’s image that has caught my attention.
Gagged with one of his own bow-ties, the campaign tells that “only you can silence yourself.”

American Apparel, the brand synonymous with androgyny and men in skintight jeans, has just launched their Unisex Oxford Shirt. I have three sisters and I’m no stranger to borrowing the odd jumper (actually, that would be reclaiming,) and I have in past borrowed Ralph Lauren shirts and vintage blazers for a better fit and a slimmer silhouette. Russell Brand, a man who walks on to a talk-show in a jersey tunic dress and girl’s jeans from Topshop but still manages to be a sex god, would be a great example of unisex dressing at its best but what do you think? Is it worth the sartorial risk when you might see a girl in the same tee as you?
Would you go Unisex- vote in our poll after the jump!

My bad! I may have the wrong film but I doubt such a slip-up would result in a look that miserable from Robert DeNiro? Might it be that he’s fed up with films? Maybe he (okay, clearly he) couldn’t be bothered to make the effort to dress up but my bet is that it’s standing next to Al Pacino who, as well as being an arguably equal competitor on the greatest actor front, actually looks pretty good!
Read on for pictures including 50 Cent as well as info about this cult-to-be film.

Condé Nast’s fifth Fashion Rocks event was hardly devoid of well-dressed men: Valentino, Justin Timberlake (who’s fashion-savvy has become a matter of debate…well, for me anyway,) Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford (who’s rumoured to have scored an up-coming VMAN cover.) My point is that, for a menswear designer, Michael Bastian more than held his own in this pantheon of celebs.
I love his vintage-looking blazer as well as his loafers and with an open shirt and a pair of well-tailored grey shorts, he is a vision of relaxed but high-fashion cool.
Notice the subtle pocket-square (an emblem of any well-dressed male) and devour this style inspiration.

Designer Spotlight, Heroes and Celebrities, Suits & Tailoring

Now that the Strokes seem to be on indefinite hiatus, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has decided to turn his hand to suits. Working together with stylist Ilaria Urbinati, the suits will be available from autumn at Urbanati’s LA based store.
In other Hammond news, there was an interesting article on dressing sharp in The Quietus. In it he states that smart is the new casual, his distaste for underdressed CEO’s (Steve Jobs, I’m looking at you) and how he was the most fashionable in the Strokes.

I recently purchased a pair of high-waisted, striped men’s trousers from a charity shop that are from Burton back in the day when it was still called Montague Burton. It was an exciting find and they fit like heaven so when I found out Burton were releasing their Heritage collection my ears pricked up.
First here’s a little history lesson: born Moshe Osinsky, Montague Burton came to England as a refugee from Lithuania and founded the company we now know as Burton.

Wallace poses in a Paul Smith suit and Gromit sits with a Duchamp scarf and pair of Ray Ban ‘Wayfarers.’
Zooey Deschanel, Agy Deyn, Irina Lazareanu, Vanessa Paradis; the fashion world is known for it’s adopting of a different muse for each different season. However, while most muses can be linked by their quirky style, elfin features and statement look, Wallace & Gromit really stand out from the crowd.
That hasn’t stopped Harvey Nichols from enlisting their modeling talent for their latest campaign and decked out in D&G shirts, Alexander McQueen suits, Paul Smith scarfs and Ray Ban Wafarers, I’m actually quite jealous!
Read on for more details and pictures- it’s worth it, trust me!

While potentially worrying and probably not at all a good sign, Andy Warhol’s ‘Death Scenes’ have always interested me. His principle was that by repeating the same image of a man impaled on a lamp-post (that’s just one of the prints,) death became strangely banal. This blazer might not be all blood ‘n’ guts (which with McQueen’s history is rather surprising,) but it is undeniably interesting. With city scenes and a fitted shape, this jacket could be worn at work, in the park, at a party and even to a music festival. I like that Matches put it with jeans for a modern edge and if I could afford the £258 price tag, I would go for a crisp white shirt and an Alber Elbaz-style floppy bow-tie. In faded, purple velvet. *Sigh*

VMAN has just released a preview of their next issue (VMAN 11) and by the looks of this preview editorial, ‘Suit Yourself,’ it is going to be incredible. Reflecting V Magazine’s ‘The Women’ editorial, which took rich photography and a classic country manor to project an image of high-society living, this editorial tells a nostalgic story of traditional tailoring with almost grainy photography used to stunning effects.
The photographic wizard at hand is none other than David Sherry and the story is styled by Jay Massacret. VMAN introduces the editorial with “this year’s fall suits combine elegant fine tailoring, clean lines, and a whiff of smoky nostalgia.” A perfect introduction to a perfect editorial.
See after the jump for the entire editorial with product listings.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s choice of suit clearly got on The London Paper’s nerves as the headline read ‘Cristiano, you look a white idiot’. To be fair, the suit itself was well tailored and it was clearly designed for Ronaldo, which is more than you can say for Rafael Nadal’s Wimbledon party suit. I’ll also make the generous assumption that the trainers were a medical prescription to help him with his injury.
But that’s as far as I’ll go with praise for this outfit. His white shirt is so Daz white that I can’t even make out the detailing, although it looks like it has concealed buttons. Like I said, nice tailoring on the suit though.

Reading through The Independent Online last night, I came across this article by Alice-Azania Jarvis on the art of dressing for work. As she states, “the thing about getting dressed for work – the thing that makes it so very difficult – is that work is definitely not about clothes. On the contrary: in the world of earnest employment, such frivolities are almost frowned upon.”
This isn’t true in the world of fashion, a Lacroix suit in blue silk can be just as suitable as a t-shirt and jeans but every job has areas where comfort and utility are a priority.
Follow this link for the article and master your workwear wardrobe.
