We are British, and let’s face it we can be fickle. We might have a thing for an underdog one year, but the minute they start realising their potential and being successful we enjoy nothing more than taking them down a peg or two.
Here then are ten things we changed our mind about in 2012. These are things that we accepted as wisdom for at least some of the year, but revised our opinions on. Some in a negative way, but a surprising number in a positive way.
What have I missed?
9 Kids playing rock music
Rather like the blues; rock, country and serious pop music is best played by those who have lived a little? Actually no, and in 2012 we took a load of guitar-toting youngsters to our hearts. Sweden's First Aid Kit created some sublime country music even though the pair has a combined age of less than 40. Then Nottingham's Jake Bugg delivered one of the year's most perfect pop albums, and all this before his 19th birthday. There's more coming too from The Yearning (which has a 15 year old in the ranks) and 18 year old Thomas McConnell whose Beatley pop has some of the best hooks and harmonies you ever heard.
