Fashion Pet Hate: distressed bootcut denim

Being overly negative about other people’s dress sense is something that I’d happily leave to Trinny and Susannah but one particular menswear trend grates on me like nothing else.

They might seem innocuous but bootcut faded and or distressed jeans are a massive bugbear of mine. Richard Hammond, part of the Top Gear triumvirate of bad denim, is the perfect example of how not to wear jeans. The overlong shirt cuffs and ‘rugged’ leather only add to the effect and make him look out of date.

Is this a fashion crime or do you dig bootcut denim? Take our poll after the jump.

Let me know what your fashion pet hates are, and we’ll feature them on Brandish. Just send me an email or write on our Facebook Blog wall!

Boyzone, or why waistcoats should die

In theory I should really like waistcoats, they are great for adding definition to a silhouette and are a classic item of tailoring. I own a couple of beautiful waistcoats, a white waffle Moss bros one and a petrol blue wool waistcoat but can’t bring myself to wear any of them because of photographs like the one above. Boyzone were pictured at the weekend providing the entertainment for the switching on of the Blackpool lights, hosted by the Top Gear team.

Do any of you manage to pull off the waistcoat without looking like one of Ireland’s finest? Email me at isabelle [at] shinymedia.com.
