Topman turn to tweed for AW12 Premium Suiting Collection

By Gerald Lynch on November 7th, 2012

Looking for a new suit to see you through the winter months? Topman’s newly revealed AW12 Premium Suiting Collection doffs its cap to traditional styles, using coloured herringbones and houndstooth, multi flecked birdseye, tweed and fine Italian fabrics for a classic, nostalgic look without breaking the bank.

Consisting of the Harris Tweed line, the Made in England range and the inaugural Super Premium collection, Topman’s AW12 winter collection leans heavily on slim-fit styles, but use tonal colour schemes to soften the look on men perhaps not usually as comfortable in close-fitting suits.

Gordon Richardson, Creative Director at Topman, said: “Our new elegant Premium Suit collection uses the finest cloths woven in Italy to produce a sophisticated and elegant range with refined bespoke details and a longer silhouette.”

ALOHA!: Ten almost-tasteful Hawaiian print shirts

By Gerald Lynch on April 18th, 2012

ASOS - Hawaiian Print Shirt - £25

Picture 1 of 10
Picture 1 of 10

When the summer heat kicks up a wavy haze off the concrete city streets, we know it can be tough to resist the urge to laze around in just your lightest shirts and underwear.

Yet, we just can’t accept the return of the Hawaiian shirt, this summer’s slob-chic must-have. It’s like someone covered themselves in wallpaper paste, tore the pages out of a tattoo catalogue and rolled around in the scraps, off their nut on umbrella-wearing cocktails.

But who are we to judge the fashion gods? We’ve pooled together ten of our favourite offerings from the likes of ASOS and Ben Sherman, ranging from the blindingly garish to more subtle, understated prints if you’re feeling a little less daring but still want to be on-trend when the heatwave finally kicks in.

So grab your hula skirts and piña coladas and dive into the gallery above for our pick of this year’s best Hawaiian shirts.

While you’re at it, have a listen to our short 60′s summer playlist below. It’s sure to instil some sunshine-surfing spirit in you even if the clouds outside your window are stubbornly grey!

Topman LENS 2011 Fall/Winter Collection

By Laura on July 25th, 2011

The weather over the last few weeks has hardly been summer like, so it is some what appropriate that Topman LENS has just unveiled their Fall/Winter 2011 lookbook.
Staring Yannick Abrath and shot by photographer Ben Weller, the collection features a wide range of styles from designers including J.W. Anderson, Dusty, Daniel Jackson, Uniforms for the Dedicated, New Power Studio and Dexter Wong.

We personally like the tailored black suit with plaid shirt the best. Which looks do you like?

Get the Topman Spring Utility look

By Laura on February 13th, 2011

Topman has launched their Spring Utility collection, which offers a modern take on causal work wear.
The collection as it name suggest, draws upon utility styling and heritage influences to modernize classic shapes such as the mac, chino and shirt. The colour pallet is composed of rich tones of tobacco, burgundy and khaki, which gives the pieces a sophisticated feel. I love all the little details of this collection such as the geo-print smart scarf, which really dresses up an otherwise causal look. Check out some of my favourite pieces from the collection below.

Unusual Trends For 2O11: The Crop Top

By Laura on January 21st, 2011

Topman Crop Top

Calvin Klein Crop Top

The year is still relatively fresh, and most of us are starting to check out 2011’s spring/summer collections in anticipation of spotting any future trends. However, sometimes you come across something that simply leaves you bemused. The Crop top is one of them.

This unusual yet bold idea has shown up in look books by both Calvin Klein and TopMan.
Calvin Klein’s interpretation of this new trend features minimal detailing, whilst staying true to the usual neutrals featured in recent collections. As such a boundary pushing piece, it is unlikely that we will see this trend take off in S/S 2011, but don’t be surprised if you start to see men layering a cropped top over other pieces this season.

So what do you think? is this a trend that you think has potential to take off? If so how would/could you carry off this look?

Topman LTD Collection

By Laura on January 17th, 2011

Another great collection from Topman this season is their LTD line.
LTD is a new concept from the Topman in-house design team which delivers sophisticated, luxe collections with an emphasis on design, detail, fabric and fashion. Inspired by the practical wardrobe of New England Dockyard workers – LTD  focuses on practical work wear, simple uniform looks with a nod to heritage pieces. Authentic naval styling is updated with mixed fabrics, including heavy denims and twills, cotton chambrays with laundered shirtings and cabled knitwear with toggle trims.

Topman: Get The U-Bahn Look

By Laura on January 17th, 2011

Topman has really upped their game this season, starting with the recent release of the U-Bahn collection. This look sees catwalk trends inspired by Berlin’s edgy underground scene and pays homage to post-punk. Built on tough sculpted shapes, it is all about creating a fresh silhouette littered with antiqued military detail.

Check out the gallery below, where I have chosen a few pieces that best represent this trend.

TopMan A.D Project Celebrates Guy Fawkes Night

By Laura on November 4th, 2010

AD Project

This weekend bonfires and firework work displays will be taking place across the country for Guy Fawkes Night. To celebrate Topman has created a really cool collection of limited edition monochromatic t-shirts based on the now infamous 1605 gunpowder plot.

The shirts are a part of the A.D project, a concept graphic t-shirt collection that takes inspiration from historical events that have helped to shape London into the City that it is today. All of the shirts are individually hand printed in London, making each one unique.

The shirts retail for £20 and are available here

Acting like a big kid: yellow raincoats

By cchapman on July 8th, 2009

yellow_raincoats.jpgIts raining its pouring, and if you’d forgotten about the need to cover up you may be considering a new rainwear purchase. With outdoor gear like mountaineering boots already looking hot for autumn, embrace your inner fisherman now and head into the deluge in a traditional yellow rain mac. Topman have a lightweight zip-up version availalable, perfect for staying visible in a wet festival. For something longer lasting that will see you through to autumn’s downfalls there’s this beauty from ASOS or the most authentic of the lot (courtesy of Valet) is this shiny, yellow raincoat by L.L Bean. Avoid brightly coloured wellingtons to fend off the worst Paddington Bear comments.

Head to toe: cool summer pick for hot nights

By cchapman on July 7th, 2009

TopToToe.jpgWith sales in full swing and the heat here to stay, now is the time to put together an outfit for those balmy evenings when you want to turn heads during your evening ‘paseo’. A mix of high street and simple staples pulls together current menswear trends without trying too hard. First up, this very fun sailor hat from Topman, with authentic braiding detail. With such quirky headgear best to keep the rest low key, hence the simple tank (buy a size up) and black cuffed shorts. The mix of brown shoes with black clothing is very 2009 and these battered-looking Oxfords would look great matched with cotton socks in a soft pastel shade, like a cream or lemon.

This is an easy look that works equally well whether you are tearing up a beach-side disco or enjoying cocktail hour amidst white stucco.

5 beach totes: pack up and go in style

By cchapman on July 6th, 2009

5_bags.jpgWith beach time and festivals ongoing, a pick of the best totes is timely. Topman continue to have some bang on-trend totes, this lion playing card print would look great with a foppish English garden party ensemble. Or try the acid Aztec print for a MGMT/summer festival psychedelic spin. Speaking of Williamsburg, the Brooklyn idyll’s other favourite sons, Yeasayer, have this lovely hand print denim tote available from their merchandise site. Prefer back straps to shouldering a flimsy tote bag? This steel wire backpack from Manufactum is from an original Bauhaus design and will make you look arty (just make sure your reading material is suitably highbrow – Grazia just won’t do). If you really need to lug a load of stuff around with you, Uniqlo have very affordable cute backpacks in some perky colours.

Happy toting!

Don’t sweat like the rest. Rock a vest!

By jsmith on July 3rd, 2009

vests.jpg

Being on public transport in the glorious-but-annoyingly-timed-to-coincide-with-the-working-week heat wave is pretty grim. Buses, trains and especially the Tube are hotter than Bin Laden’s pager number; if you were naked you would still be wearing too much. Clearly you can’t rock out with your cock out on public transport, however you can compromise with Granddad’s favourite, a vest.

There are a few considerations to take into account before you don a sleeveless wonder, jump through to see what you need to know.

Outfit pick: Summer on the high street

By cchapman on June 26th, 2009

summer_outfit_pick.jpgThere’s a lot of great summer items out there on the high street, even without the sales. Topman in particular are doing much to replace the label’s history of sweatshop man-made horrors with on trend items in natural fabrics. But first up is Uniqlo, these pink washed chinos are very Hamptons, an easy shape to wear in a brave colour. Button down shirts and denim continue to be trends in shirting and Topman combine both in one lovely, slender shirt. Their Liberty-print floral bow tie would be a great contrast and is a keeper. Finally, how nice are these patent grey sandals? Sadly sold out online, hit the stores (especially if you can reach one out of town) to nab a pair.

Pink, washed chinos from Uniqlo £24.99
Button-down denim shirt, Topman £30
Liberty-print bow tie, Topman £15
Patent grey sandals (sold out online), Topman £30
