Yay or Nay: The Return of THAT Print?

By Will Reid on January 19th, 2009

burberry.jpgThe Burberry Prorsum A/W 2009 show has been going down a storm on the Internet with buyers and fashion critics air-kissing in delighted agreement as they plan their wardrobes for seasons to come (guilty as charged.) Apart from the amazing padded jackets and sharp tailoring, one of the things that has most caught my attention is the subtle return of the infamous check print. The beige tartan-esque print has, in recent years, become a taboo of the fashion industry but designer Christopher Bailey appears to have decided that the time has come for a major return.

What do you think- are you ready to show-off the check print? Vote in our poll after the jump!

Outfit Pick: Braving the Blue with Burberry!

By Will Reid on October 10th, 2008

I’m currently sitting in a small room in India with a fan spinning in an attempt to cool me down and a mosquito net blanketing the balcony door. I have to admit it’s pretty hard to imagine wearing trench coats right now. But, I’m a proud Brit and nothing is going to get in the way of my winter-wardrobe appreciation.

This Outfit Pick shows you how to rock a modern, edgy winter look that will have you feeling protected and warm but not boring and hoping no-one spots you in your M&S beanie.

The trench adds a sharp shot of buzzing colour and the t-shirt and boots add an urban gypsy vibe that’s very on-trend. The umbrella…well, that’s just for fun.

See after the jump for full product details!

Outfit Pick: Trapper Hat Hot

By Will Reid on October 3rd, 2008

outfitpick4.jpgI have to admit that despite being a lover of high-fashion millinery from the likes of Stephen Jones and Philip Treacy, I just can’t wear hats. They look truly horrific on me.

But the whole Brandish team is currently infatuated with an item that looks set to take off in the coming months (of snow and cold.) That item is the Trapper Hat.

In this week’s Outfit Pick, I’ve added a few eccentric pieces to a Topman Trapper hat and created a look that anyone could pull of by balancing the quirky tweed bag and dancing brogues with a classic beige trench also from Topman.

Are items you want to see included in a Brandish Outfit Pick? E-mail: isabelle@shinymedia.com!

Yoko Devereaux SupermarketHQ sale

By admin on May 20th, 2008

ydcollage copy.jpg

Sometimes a bargain is too good to pass on, regardless of what season the clothing’s designed for. This Yoko Devereaux double breasted cardigan is currently going for $32, which is 75% off the retail price. Other bargains are this trench coat for $49 and this Queen print shirt for $17.

The downside to this near giveaway is that they only ship to the United States and Canada, anyone living elsewhere will have to look at the pictures and dream of wearing these pieces. I’m not sure what’s worse: missing a sale or finding a sale won’t deliver to your neck of the woods. These are the kind of dilemmas that should be going on the Jeremy Kyle show.

Robert Geller S/S 2008

By admin on April 29th, 2008

German Born, New York based designer Robert Geller is a very new kid on the block. His label only launched in A/W 07, after working at Marc Jacobs, revamping Cloak and creating a women’s wear range called Harald. The following sentence will sound a little odd, but I’m going to look at a S/S 2008 range while we’re actually in the same season.

While – bar the lime green shorts – none of the pieces break the mould, they are very wearable and could be blended into ones personal style without looking like a store mannequin. Trenches, leathers (jackets and trousers) and cardigans are the staple pieces of the collection and, apart from the leather, they all look ready to wear in these upcoming sunny days. Whilst the label doesn’t have a UK stockist at the moment, you can order some of the items from Blackbird.

Uniqlo mini sale

By admin on April 15th, 2008

While we do feature some pricier items here on Brandish, we also do fashion for the masses. So when news of Uniqlo’s mini sale came to us, we had to let you all know about. Focusing exclusively on outerwear, Uniqlo have cut prices of their double breasted trench coat to £29.99 and their cotton jacket to £19.99.

Whilst the cut prices are great and all, the fit on Uniqlo’s double breasted trench coat left a lot to be desired. Maybe I’ve been spoilt by COS’s excellent fit on their trenches, but the UQ coat felt a tad oversized and loose. You may be better off trying them on in store before you get any of these online.

Lee Trench Coat – Yes, you read that right

By admin on April 2nd, 2008

lee jacket.JPG

If, for some bizarre reason, you decided to
write a list of all the labels you expected to bring out trenches built for
spring, I bet Lee wouldn’t even feature on your list. If they did feature on
your pointless list, then they’d be way down the bottom, after Nike or
something.

But guess what? They’ve only gone and made
a beige
trench coat
. I know. I’m as shocked as you are. I’m surprised that more
national newspapers aren’t covering this. But I digress. This coat is perfect
for spring due to the light material and beige colouring, which lends itself to
any number of outfit combinations. The coat costs £105 and is available from
Elements.

Cheap Monday’s Kostym range

By admin on April 1st, 2008
cheapcollage copy.jpg

Cheap Monday look set to keep on branching out with their KOSTYM
range. Featuring suits, trench coats and the ubiquitous check shirt, the detailing on the items is what they’re hoping will set them apart. The asymmetrical buttoning on the trench coats is similar to 70′s leather jackets and the suits are very slim fit.

After H&M’s buyout of the company it’s interesting to see the brand move into suits. Topman are pretty much the only company specializing in tight suits and it’ll be interesting to see if H&M start stocking Cheap Monday in a select few of their outlets in order to compete. If you can’t wait that long you can order some of the Kostym range from Alter.
