Canny shoppers take note, the Topman sale is now on which means that if you do some careful shopping you can pick up some pieces that will take you through Spring into summer.
A grey peacoat is a great building block for your wardrobe, Topman’s cropped offering might not last you forever but at £15 it’s an unbeatable price. The Premium wine trousers will get you out of the officewear rut and again they’re at the bargain price of only £25. Tasselled loafers have been cropping up on our fashion radar for some time now, and if you want to dip your toes into the trend forking out £30 for Topman’s pair is a fairly risk-proof investment.

Jeans & Trousers, Polls, Trends

Drop-crotch jeans have been dubbed the ‘future of denim’ and ‘the next skinny jean.’ I am an unbelievable skinny devotee (yes, I am scarred after wearing them in Summer-heat London and not even joking) and for this reason, I decided to road-test an exclusive pre-production sample pair from Trousers London. I ventured into Covent Garden to get the public opinion on whether the jeans were ‘(Drop-)HOT!’ or ‘PANTS!’ Pitying glances, envious looks, angry words and self-styling monologues; the Drop-Crotch jeans certainly attracted attention-but was it praise or pity? Read on for the full report with street-style pics, interviews, comments and product details.

Designer Spotlight, Jeans & Trousers, Polls

We’ve made you endure some pretty terrible things on Brandish (see here and here,) and now I present a sneaky snap of New Look’s new adjust-a-length jeans. The trick is you have to button up each different level of the jean depending on what you’re after; shorts, the semi-crop, full jeans or the button-embellished. Is it just me who gasps at this fashion indictment?
Mr Mills (yes that is the third week running we’ve mentioned him but this is truly relevant,) reported on this trend for the David Cameron-trouser-in-a-sock style only last Sunday and he also came to the conclusion that it was a modern-monstrosity.
What do you think?- tell us in the poll below!

Big Brother’s Little Brother (BBLB) presenters have a tradition for being rather cool fellows and after the likes of Dermot O’Leary and Russell Brand, George Lamb is the latest man to be lighting our screens with his look. Take a look at the screencap (left) from a recent episode of BBLB; the cropped and turned up trousers, the worn-in brogues, the grey (still a key colour) and the Alber Elbaz-inspired bow-tie.
Topped off by the same messy but manicured hair that catapulted the likes of Bob Geldof to style icon status, Lamb has the foundations of an up ‘n’ coming sartorial institution.

Italy might be one of the only places where the men dress better than the women. This is of course a massive generalisation but diamanté, stripper shoes and white capri pants will never be a match for the classic, timeless style that many Italian men adopt.
Dropped-crotch trousers was not something I expected to spot on holiday but I duly dug out my camera and snapped this young man before he rode off on his super cool spray-painted bike. I just wish I knew the Italian for ‘I’m not a creepy weirdo, honest’.

French Connection’s ‘Pad’ trousers are a satisfying shade of rich navy which will look très chic teamed with other neutral for a classically elegant outfit. Try a white shirt with a rust coloured pocket square, or a white v-neck tee and grey cardigan for something more casual.
The cut is slim without being overly skinny and the creases are lengthening and flattering. At £70 they are a bit of an investment but they will easily become a staple part of your formal wardrobe and the navy is a sartorially intelligent change from boring black.

S/S trends from left: Martin Margiela, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Burberry Prorsum.
Trouser styles have been skinny for a long time, but mirroring womenswear trends the fashion-forward kecks seen on a trendy young man could just as easily be voluminous double-pleated, geek chic cropped, wide-leg, bootcut or dropped-crotch.
In a recent article in GQ style Charlie Porter waxes lyrical about the return of bootcut featured in Prada’s S/S show in a Italo-geek style. I don’t know if I’m ready for bootcut yet, but it took me a while to acclimatise to the return of pleats when Fantastic Man did a feature on them about a year ago. See after the jump to take our trouser trends poll.

These slouchy trousers from Monsoon (£55) are perfect for the summer, the linen content means they will look their best slightly rumpled and billowing but the rayon content will keep a modicum of crisp. Team the dark slate colour with pale blues, dove greys and white for a cool look; the trousers will be equally at home with a casual t-shirt and flip flops or smartened up with a tailored short-sleeved shirt and pumps for work.
