Keifer Sutherland on the Last EVER Issue of Men’s Vogue?

By Will Reid on November 27th, 2008

0997130.jpgUsually, I like to write these magazine posts with as much information and detail as possible. I’m no stranger to the old hour of uploading just to give you the full low-down on that Dazed & Confused issue with “Tecktonick”dancer Kevin. The US Vogue ‘Superman’ issue with Tom Welling was packed with great pictures that were up on our beloved Brandish within hours of their release!

However, sometimes a hot story is worth posting even if the only information you have is a cover image…

AskMen.com Explore the Sartorial Savvy of Gianni Agnelli

By Will Reid on November 13th, 2008

portrait-06.jpgGianni Agnelli is a man constantly sourced as style inspiration to fashionistos across the world. From his flair for fine tailoring to his edgy take on accessories, this man had a look that was extremely well-executed and so timeless that it is still being copied on the catwalks of today. Agnelli’s grandson, Lapo Elkann, continues to wear all of Agnelli’s bespoke suits and it is no coincidence that Elkann has, in recent years, been hailed as a modern style icon by the likes of US Vogue and Esquire.

The article is full of great style advice such as, “if you want to dress like an iconoclast, your first step is to dismiss all of the old rules of fashion — just like Gianni Agnelli did when he wore his wristwatch over his sleeve cuff.”

WISHLIST: CA4LA Trilby

By Will Reid on May 28th, 2008

trilby3.jpgThis week I happen to be in the rather happening city of Mumbai. This former Bombay is, according to US Vogue, the new “It-City” but after landing yesterday I must admit that the gruelling heat wave soon quashed my hopes of glamour and a jet-set style wardrobe. In my stone grey Topman shorts, white belt, Karate Kid t-shirt and flip-flops I realised I was missing something and as soon as I stepped into the light of Indian sun I realised that what I needed was a hat. In my opinion, the trilby is a classic ruined by our own style icons but Browns is trying to change this and the CA4LA collection they have started to stock has a great variety of classic hats with a modern twist. My fave is this hat above with blue brim, white trim and black crown. With badge and feather included, what’s to stop you from pulling a Geldof and strutting out of airport lounges stealing bottles of wine (that’s an actual observation.)

Trilby, £135, Browns

US Vogue- June 2008: Pierce Brosnan and Chris Noth

By Will Reid on May 20th, 2008

The latest issue of American Vogue features a lot of male celebrities (of the more mature, realistic and relatable variety) taking the place of over-ripped and bicep-bulging models. SATC’s Chris Noth and Sarah Jessica Parker dash around New York, avoiding paparazzi, lusting after each other in couture (and having it all captured by Annie Leibovitz) while Pierce Brosnan and Daria Werbowy run, spy and sail their way through San Francisco in a summer-inspired shoot by Mario Testino.

US Vogue May 2008- Tom ‘Superman’ Welling

By Will Reid on April 15th, 2008

wellingvogue.jpg“It’s a Bird It’s a Plane It’s Superman.” Well no, actually it’s Tom Welling- the actor behind Smallville’s Clark Kent. American Vogue, the powerhouse magazine hasn’t been exciting since the days of Diana Vreeland and it seems they have a new marketing plan for adding some style spice. They seem unable to resist the power of male fashion and with our own trends fast forming a tableau for female copycats (Dior Homme anyone?) this month’s issue has highlighted Welling as a sartorial force to be reckoned with. Posing with model Maryna Linchuk in a feature based on a disguised Superwoman’s adventures within the working world, Welling is shot by Steven Meisel in Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta and Ralph Lauren Purple Label. I am loving the 50s vibe and while overdone in recent times, it is a refreshing change from razor-sharp denim and Biker-style studs.

See after the jump for more pictures from Welling’s stunning shoot.

‘Man Alive’- Style Magazine, Sunday 16 March

By Will Reid on March 19th, 2008

Style When I opened Sunday Times Style’s latest male issue, I came upon a great editorial called ‘Man Alive.’ It focuses on shoes and suits but the contents are elevated by Lucy Ewing’s styling and Paul Bliss’ photography.

Among an issue containing Kate Moss semi-naked on a beach and Clive Owen in semi-shadow, it is testament to its brilliance that the editorial made the front cover of the magazine. Particular highlights included the ginger model leaping excitedly in the air. Clothing ranges from Giorgio Armani to Miu Miu and the models have been picked to represent different types of people.

US Vogue April 2008- LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen

By Will Reid on March 18th, 2008

293lebrongisele031408
For possibly the first time in its history, US Vogue is attracting attention for something other than its general lack of interest. The reason; this year’s ‘Shape Issue’ features LeBron James, the 6 ft 8 basketball player, posing with Gisele Bundchen, the 5 ft 11 supermodel.

So, still questioning why this could be seen as interesting by those within the fashion world? Well this is only the third time that a male has been featured on a US Vogue cover (after Richard Gere and George Clooney) and the first time that said male has been of colour- satisfied yet? Within the magazine, we have a feature which takes models like Gisele Bundchen and Doutzen Kroes and pairs them with athletes like Shaun White and Apolo Ohno. It is rare that so many stars come together (especially for fashion) and all those included are at the top of their game (pardon the use of this particular expression.) This is an issue for everyone and although some cynics are predicting a major letdown, let’s look up. In the case of 6 ft 8 LeBron, you’ll be doing it anyway.

See after the jump for great screencaps from a video on the issue. (Source: The Fashion Spot)
