More winter style solutions, this time with our definitive pick of winter scarves. A scarf is a great chance to add a splash of colour, pattern or texture to your outfit so be brave and pick something bold!
From left: University scarves are a great find on eBay, Paul Smith does a luxe silk-lined version for £110. Chunky scarves with the right amount of texture are hard to come by on the high street but Topman have a good selection, this teal offering is £12.

Ute Ploier Shorts from b Store

By Will Reid on April 1st, 2008

UTE SHORTS.jpgFrom Marc Jacobs to Topman, McQ to Uniqlo, short shorts have undoubtedly secured their place as the menswear item of the season – and possibly the year. If I said they needed an adopter than Brandish is the orphanage. We have given you examples of short shorts in a spectrum of colours, fabrics and prints and Jason even took it to a political platform!

If politics is your thing, these PVC shorts from Ute Ploier are the David Cameron of this trend (and by that I don’t mean they have their own cringy webcast or a penchant for innocent smoothies.) Quirky, original and edgy these shorts would be perfect for night with a crisp white shirt and dove grey blazer or for day with a plain white t-shirt, raspberry American Eagle jumper and white plimsolls. Most of all just relish in the fact that you can wear PVC short shorts and still be in fashion.

Black shorts, Ute Ploier, £155

One Button suits – the way to go for the smart office party

By admin on December 18th, 2007

If you need to make an impression for your
Christmas party, a one button suit may be the way to go. They’re sharp enough
to make you look like you’ve made an effort, but are still casual enough to
wear with a pair of trainers. This Ute Ploier suit is a
perfect example of what you should be looking for. The standout piece of this
outfit would be the trainers and it’s here where you need to get things right.

Whilst Chuck Taylors can look good with a suit,
they can also make you look like you dragged any old pair of trainers from the
back of your wardrobe. Nanny State’s patent
leather trainers
go well with suits and smart attire in general, whilst
still looking like trainers.

Ute Ploier

Ute Ploier has been making
a name for herself in the menswear market. After starting her own label in 2003,
she was awarded the 2004 menswear award at the Hyères Festival. Her current collection ‘Time-loopers’ is said to
reflect on the modern mans armour – role play, social connotations and issues
of masculinity. I just like her Morrissey t-shirt.

Given the whole
Morrissey vs NME thing, it’s pretty risqué at the moment to even wear a Mozza
t-shirt. People might confuse me with an old ex-pat who spends his time lamenting
the lack of English accents in Knightsbridge. Morrissey’s version of England is
probably filled with monocle-wearing man with bowler hats shouting ‘Pip Pip’ at
each other whilst stopping off to play a game of croquet before getting back to
the old lady. The shirt is nice though.
